Yes! The golden child suffers too, just in unique ways. At ten years old, Maddie had a lot of perfectionist, people-pleasing, and anxious behaviors. For fear of Abby rejecting her, Maddie endlessly tried to stay in Abby's good books because the alternative was too much to bear. There were ZERO boundaries in that relationship (see: Abby forcefully kissing Maddie on the lips when she was 11, Abby crying to Maddie in a room alone for simply obeying her mother when she was 9, etc, etc, etc). I'm tired of everyone saying that Maddie had it the best, or that she doesn't have a right to complain because she was the favorite. Her trauma is valid and no one else's place to comment on.
