Are you going to review Andor
James and the giant peach is my favorite stop motion film
GUMBY
You have not reviewed The Fablmens yet.
Any plans to cover crisis core reunion? I know you're a fan of the original and would love to hear your take on it
Guillermo is a legend. Whether it’s for kids, adults or both he always brings an original and refreshing take to his storytelling and production style.
He truly understands monsters and I hope he gets the chance to make Hellboy 3
He won an Oscar for a bestiality movie. Most overrated director ever.
@@raymondwatt9773 How is it different from any mermaid story ever?
@@skepticalbadger It's a woman f***ing a fish.
Sure just don't ask him what famous petition he signed though
Honestly the best version of Pinocchio I’ve ever seen, absolutely love the themes and maturity here. Would love to see Guillermo del Toro tackle more stories Disney has adapted over the years to be more faithful to those darker elements from the original source material
The possibilities w/ Hunchback of Notre Dame
Little Mermaid where she dies at the end
Imagine if he made James and the Giant Peach.
@@grimreaper5264 Or a gritty reboot of SpongeBob
@@serial92989 Disney version is already dark but well done really.
Stop motion is generally amazing and this movie continues to showcase just how beautiful it can be.
To be fair, this was the best stop-motion studio involved, and the scenes were some of the most ambitious... like the long tracking shots of characters moving through sets. If you watch the making of you see some of the scenes took weeks to film.
They always been great just takes too long to make…so you better make sure your story is good lol
you think stop motion looks better than pixar? i appreciate the manual effort that comes with it but c'mon!
@@epicapexplays8467 Both are great types of art in their own right. Never said one was better than the other.
Well you want to made a story about a puppet? Then use puppets!
This movie made my fiancé cry extremely hard and when I asked if she was ok she replied with “This my favorite movie”
Those are the moments we hope for when we press play. Beautiful.
I watched it with my wife and my daughter and my wife asked my daughter "are you crying?" Before she answered I said "me too" me and my daughter were crying my daughter is 10 I'm 40 and we connected ourselves with this movie is something else.
@@thotslayer9914 what a lame comment.
Really?
@jesseramirez9062 no it's not, lol.
You can tell Guillermo put so much love into this film and understood how to make Pinocchio feel original again while instilling the classic lessons from the original story. It was absolutely fantastic!
This movie was surprisingly good as this story has been told so many times, but Del Toros touch made it unique, dark, and emotional
It bums me out that a movie with this level of passion hasn’t gotten to number 1 on Netflix since it’s release. I guess it’s not for everybody, but I wish Guillermo got that small win of a number one debut.
It has tho
It actually has
Oh really, not that I’ve seen
too quirky
It isn't even on Netflix where I live. 😓
Usually not a fan of child actors but the kid that played pinocchio was absolutely amazing! Also loved the ongoing joke with jiminy cricket haha
They were all pretty great, sort of recognized the voice of the cricket but could not tell it was Ewan McGregor up until it ended
*Sebastian J. Cricket
I though the singing was a bit too high and it sounded a bit autuned sometimes? or is that just me?
Love…hurts…lol
I can't BELIEVE studios weren't willing to fund this. Their loss in my opinion. This is one of the most stunning animated films of the year if not of all time. Guillermo Del Toro reminds me of James Cameron when it comes to the passion, dedication and attention to detail they put in their works. The reason why this film looks so GOOD is detail. The reason why Titanic looks incredible, is detail.
Geppetto's house is run via a coal furnace. So he made sure to have the home covered in soot. And I love that he added in details of people being people. Stumbling, grabbing to pick up an item and not getting it so you go for it again, just the small things that make a person a person that's PAINSTAKING to do in stop motion. And he did it. That kind of care and love and passion in film just...feels...missing nowadays for some reason.
"What happens, happens. And then we are gone" literally sobbing
The one line that sent everyone into a sobbing spiral 😂
All those layers and details and complexity...
Cricket, who is supposed to represent his heart, actually living inside the hollow knot in his chest where his heart would be.
The details on the blue "fairy", contrasted with Death.
The choice of setting and time period.
Even the supporting characters all having personalities that feel complex and nuanced, with arcs of their own. Why is this so hard for most films to nail down?
Easily the best version of Pinocchio. Absolutely beautiful.
Wow, sounds cool, I need to see it.
What I like about Guillermo's Pinocchio is that the ending subverted the "turning into a real boy trope" which leads to a bittersweet turn where Pinocchio outlived his beloved family.
And there goes Pinocchio roasting Mussolini with some poo jokes.
It uses the “thing is in us all along” and actually be earned.
But that ending completely betrayed the WHOLE point of the movie!
@@EngMadison no it didn't? He became a real boy my finally learning what it means to be human, to experience loss, to accept it and move on and make the most of his remaining life, he even went on to carry Sebastian body in his heart to symbolise how he will always cherish them and is willing to carry that burden and move on
Sebastian said in the end he will die eventually but until then he will enjoy the remaining life he has left
Thanks for spoiling the movie.
@@led-0185 you came to a movie review without watching it and then went digging through the comments without watching it and are NOW upset the movie was spoiled for you?
I recommend watching the movie before you go to reviews.
Guillermo is my favourite director. I’m never disappointed with his work.
For me this is my favorite movie of the year I cried at the end this movie should win an Oscar for best animated feature.
Guillermo Del Toro's Pinnocchio is a lock for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. Like, it's got the chances to win in that category.
Furthermore, it may also secure nominations for Best Original Score and Best Original Song as well.
I hear Puss in Boots: the last wish is great as well
Yeah I liked this and puss and boots the best animated personally for me
@@Slawsers Puss in Boots*
And it did ;)
This was the movie that we didn't deserve, but that we absolutely needed.
This film is a MASTERPIECE, I honestly believe that. You start the film in tears and you end the film in tears bur for absolutely different reasons. It's a great journey, it looks and sounds beautiful and is not without its humor (Ewan McGregor as Sebastian cracked me up multiple times). I hope we can get a Blu-Ray release too.
This has a huge year for unexpected hits!! Jeremy can talk about anything and I’d be just as entertained as listening to him go off on a movie he loves
I was not expecting this film to be so emotional. I can think of at least 3 instances where I was misty eyed. Also my 4 year old had no issues with the darker moments.
Same my nieces loved the movie… one just didn’t understand why everyone was doing the same salute
I cried like a baby towards the end. I was like “Meh its an ok movie” for most of it. The ending broke me and still has me feeling very sad and depressed. It truly is a work of art
Del Toros commitment to practical effects is why he’s one of my favorite directors
I just want a Guillermo del Toro action horror game at this point
Well we almost did get one, kind of.
No. You want a Guillermo del Toro strand type game.
@@chovue2363 whats a strand type game? Im fairly certain i know what i want lol and its a dead space style action horror game

This was hands down my movie of the year. I’m glad it’s finally starting to get the attention it deserves. I watched it again the night after it was so good..

I watched this and Klaus for the first time last week. That was a good week, two great animated children’s films that are made for adults as well with great animation, voice acting, and story. They both had a lot of genuine heart as well, which seems rare nowadays.
Klaus is very underrated. Love that movie alot
Love Klaus
Wow, same. I've watched Klaus with my coworkers and Pinocchio at home the next day
Klaus is such a masterpiece 10/10
Man that Robert Carlyle impression was on POINT. Got me wanting to watch OUAT again. He was my favourite character
Yes so good
You're the best movie reviewer on UA-cam. Entertaining and brutally honest. Keep up the good content.
agreed!
I watched it in a theater. The animation is really beautiful.
Love the reviews as always Jeremy. Keep it up!
I watched this movie and have to say I LOVED it. Such a creative, original, and heart-wrenching take on the story.
This movie was absolutely beautiful. The dialogue was excellent. It completely blew every expectation I ever had for what a Pinocchio movie could be. My 2yr old son loved the animation.
Thank you for years of content! Happy holiday season, Jeremy
Wow I literally just finished watching this movie and saw you uploaded your review 2 hours ago! Impeccable timing Mr. Jahns
The Wrong Trousers has got to be my favorite stop motion animation. The Nightmare Before Christmas is one we love to watch each Christmas. But that Wallace and Gromit short is absolute perfection!
This movie made me cry. I absolutely loved it. Real heartbreak represented about all stages of life
even though Nightmare Before Christmas is my favorite stop motion animated movie But Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio may be my new favorite stop motion animated movie
Somehow it feels wholesome to watch your reviews. Been following this channel for a very long time. Oddly this channel is the only “Method” I prefer my movie reviews and sometimes game reviews. Thanks Jeremy Jahns, for a good decade of wholesome reviews. You have my gratitude.
Did not see that OUAT reference coming. Good one, jeremy!
The scene where Pinocchio "lied" to get his family out of the whale actually worked for me because it became apparent with each lie he stated, you could flip it to understand each thing he held as true. When he said, "I hate you" and his nose grew, like princess bride, what he really meant was "I love you."
"There's one day and one day only, that you'll know, that you know everything you need to know. And that will be the day you die but, on that day you'll be too dead to know. Thats the irony of life"
- Jeremy Jahns (2022)
*That's* *some* *deep* *stuff* *man.*
Jeremy. I’ve been watching your videos for years now and while we are the same age and have lived two different lives, there is a connection. The points intersect because of life itself. The message is “We live.” And that is life. We live and love. Happy New Year.
I love the Mexican heritage nods throughout the movie. It's subtle but it's appreciated to see!
Guillermo del Toro should open his own animation studio.
Him and Wes Anderson.
Just watched this. Absolutely fantastic. This is an incredible example of a "re imagining". Brilliant work by everyone involved.
Jeremy thank you for still making reviews 🙏 It's like seeing an old friend every week or so. I've been watching your videos since high school, I'm 29 now. Damn entertaining listening to you talk.
Watched 1h yesterday, finished today. This little animation had me tearing up at times. Periodically, I find Jeremy's reviews to be a bit too nice to films, but this one...if you're reading Jeremy, you nailed it. It's fantastic - I do hope they release a hard copy because I would buy it. Stop motion is so underrated as a medium (love the shout out to Kubo btw, great film) and Guillermo del Toro uses it masterfully.
This film is amazing. The stop motion was unreal and so lifelike. It is a bit darker for kids. My 7 year old was creeped out in some parts but finished it and enjoyed it.
There's plenty of watered down children stuff, please don't ruin this gem. Watch the disney version.
Well, it's fine for children to be faced with some slightly dark things. In fact, I'd say it's healthy. It's better to learn that life isn't all fun & games with babyshoes on, rather than shielding them from it altogether and then 1 day be faced with the full blunt force of it because it happens before they're old enough to watch any movies featuring those themes in any capacity. All of that overshielding children from any kind of 'mature' theme is one of the reasons mental illnesses have risen so much. Most are shielded from those things until it's thrown straight into their face in real life... at which point most aren't properly capable of dealing with it pretty much did not exist in their mind until it happens to them.
i swear we are in sync every time im caught up in some obscure thing from the past that i haven't seen or thought about in years you reference it in your videos the same week! i have been blaaaaasting ultimate show down all week an you just spun me out :0
I started watching you in 2009, and I'm so happy you've grown so much as a reviewer. You talk about film more technically and I appreciate it!
The live action Pinocchio movie from 1996 still haunts me to this day
Why?
@@mckinniesmovies3598 he has schizophrenia that's why
yeah that movie for some reason disturbed me and I don't remember why. but it imprinted on a lot of us apparently
There is a week left in 2022, we can make one more Pinocchio movie this year!
Never thought I’d hear a “Once Upon A Time” reference in 2022 😂. Pretty good Robert Carlyle impression though
What surprised me most about this film is that it made you think about more than JUST Pinocchio. Like it made you actually feel for Gepetto and the loss of his son and connect to the other characters in the movie. It also slapped you in the face with reality and had a deep message to it about life and death, about how precious life is and about why it's temporary. Making a story that widens your attention span beyond the main character is a very hard thing to do and that is what truly makes this film a masterpiece.
I literally just watched this movie yesterday glad you enjoyed it too! It was such a heartfelt study of family, morality, and the way you learn lessons and teach them. I loved how they used the Cricket and I adored the character arc the monkey took
Me and my wife cried like toddlers. Great movie.
Awesome 👍 review! You crushed it as always I am totally looking forward to seeing this film 😊
Fantastic work, as always, Jeremy. Would you consider reviewing older films (Casablanca, Citizen Cane, It's A Wonderful Life)? There are so many gems made during the dawn of film.
Man the stop action animation is amazing. That alone makes it a good time
Thanks for the review Jeremy. This film definitely had the feels!
I was waiting for this review!!!
Glad to have your review! I've been waiting for someone I trust if it's worth my time.
One of the best movies I’ve ever seen!! And god the end hurt also all the voice actors did such a good job esspecially Hans landa dude is such a legend
Love this movie. It was beautiful from start to finish and it being in stop motion only made me love it more.
This was one of your BEST film reviews. Thank you.
“Ultimate Showdown”…
…. Oh, the feels.
Coraline has to be one of my favorites, it’s so well done and I love the characters.
I'm so glad to see the shift in animation powerhouses moving away from the box cut safety net that is the mouse to more beautiful unique and heartfelt stories. Not just GDT Pinocchio but even Puss in Boots 2 had moment where I was like woah that shakes me to my core watching the scene (for any who have watched it u know the one) the mouse might have the money but they do not have the heart, and in animation that is what drives us to love the show
“All magic comes with a price, dearie.” Oh my gosh; it’s Once Upon a Time!
Stop motion is such a huge time investment but when done right can be absolutely breath taking. So blessed to be able to see Guillermo's vision come to life.
Highly recommend Rilakkuma and Kaoru also on netflix for people hungry for more stop motion.
The stop-motion movie I enjoyed the most is probably Fantastic Mr. Fox from Wes Anderson. I just really liked the whole vibe and the humor in it. Anomalisa made an impression on me too. I can't say I really enjoyed watching it, but the themes in it are really interesting and the execution is impactful.
Came here to say the same about Fantastic Mr Fox. I forgot about Anomalisa - thanks for the reminder!

The amount of painstaking detail put into this film is absolutely astounding.
James and the Giant Peach was my favourite stop motion as a kid. It's dark, it's funny, it's scary and adventurous.
LOL Great Review! I am glad you did this. You convinced me to see it! You still are the best film reviewer today.
Guillermo Del Toro is a Great director and this version of Pinocchio is truly the animated masterpiece and the best animated movie of the Year and will tug at your heartstrings
GdT continues to be a treasure to cinema.
About time you made this reaction! I was about to think that you were going to miss out.
Great review! When you doing Andor?
I don’t think I will ever be able to forget this movie. It still haunts me but in a good way. It’s hard to explain but I am sure anybody else who watches it will understand.
It is a mix themes that remain up to this day,all this themes are put by GdT in an exquisite envelope: the coming of age story, crossroads, abuse of power: cruelty, parenthood, mortality and political point of view (dictator)
Glad to see more original Pinocchio representations, i love the more dark tone
great review jahns
Favorite stop motion? More nostalgia than favorite but it might as well be my favorite. Nightmare Before Christmas came out on my 25th birthday and was only playing at El Capitan. I had just gotten my drivers license back after not driving for a couple years. So hopped in my Chevy Blazer and headed north from the northern coastal tip of Orange County to Hollywood. Saw the second show that morning in the beaitifully newly renovated El Capitan. I have watched it on my birthday every year since then.
Pure magic. Also shows how low disney fell.
And speaking of how low that Disney fell, Bob Chapek and Bob Iger should be blamed for all the mess that happened on Disney.
Along with Marvel, and Pixar; Disney has fallen on dark times.
I'm sure lots of others will say the same, but to this day, Coraline is not only my favorite stop-motion film, but one of my favorite films of all time. It's what introduced me properly to the world of stop-motion and how truly beautiful and creative a craft it is. Haven't seen Pinocchio yet, but I look forward to it!
It got released as a Criterion Collection movie yesterday on 4k Blu Ray/ Blu Ray.
Jahns hair is goin on strong in honor or Pinocchio. I wish I knew the products he uses on some non advertisement stuff. CORALINE is very smooth and well done. I'm glad I watched this before seeing the film. As usual
This movie was so good I almost cried at the end 😭😭😭
I had no idea this movie was out! I’ll have to try to find a time to see it and hope that somewhere near me is playing it.
Also, at 3:36 was that Rumplestiltskin in Once Upon a Time? Good memories!
Loved watching Isle of Dogs. Love your show too, Mr. Jahns 🎉
This was indeed a beautiful movie and it made me emotional. As far as my favorite stop motion it’s definitely Kubo and the Two Strings
Kubo is my fav too
I highly appreciate Netflix bringing back appreciation towards stop motions shows during the Pandemic. Stop motion animators deserves all the love and admiration. Stop motion work is not easy, it's art in every frame. Production level in itself must be insanely hardcore yet systematic.
Do not thank Netflix, thank Del Toro. He had been working on this since 2008 and had funding pulled several times before Netflix gave him the last he needed. Netflix doesn't deserve the credit for Del Toros passion and hard work just because they were the last check writers
@@domesticdragonwaffle of course 😁 I didn't say Netflix did the job, duhh, but I do appreciate the animation dept of Netflix pushing the company to bring more stop motion works to the platform. Just this year, their stop motions, 3D & 2D animations shows were all ballers.
Guillermo Del Toro should ABSOLUTELY Invest in making more animations like this one He's an absolute LEGEND and he's one of those rare gems in the big industry who actually cares about animation Way more then Disney and that's saying a lot
Every time Jeremy makes an impression/accent, an angel gets his/her wings. It's my unicorn. Sightings too few and far between--nay, rare--but always worth seeing.
A request, if I may...please review Where the Crawdads Sing. Just saw the movie 3 times and read the book. It's massively overlooked by most critics. Thanks for all you do!
I wonder if you’re gonna review Andor or you’re already planning to. After the disappointments of Obi Wan and Boba Fett you would love Andor.
i miss jeremy’s more frequent uploads. it felt like he took a slight step away and reviewed less than usual but i could be wrong.

I definitely know that you're my movie review guy when you can subtly make references to the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny and it be seamless. Keep up the great work!
3:57 Lol you got me, that was the first thing that came go mind.
It's absolutely baffling to me that this movie got cancelled at first due to its budget which is $35 million (a normal budget for an animated movie). This was one of Del Toro's most passionate project. And now I'm glad Netflix brought it back and Del Toro can give us one of the best films of the year. Del Toro walked so Disney and Robert Zemeckis could run!! For all Netflix problem they have, be glad that they still give development hell projects like this getting financed
