I agree, hopsack is a great weave to own, especially if, like me, you like wearing a jacket in the summer, but want to avoid over-heating. Many people assume that if you want a lighter weave for summer, you have to defer to linen. I am not a big fan of the crumpled look of linen, so I tend to avoid it. Hopsack affords you the breath-ability of lighter fabrics like linen, while maintaining the polish and structure of wool. I own a navy hopsack jacket with a subtle plaid pattern and patch pockets. It is intended to be a little more casual, and I wear it accordingly. I have forwarded your videos to both my nephew, and my cousin-in-law, and it has helped them immensely. I would encourage others to do the same. This channel should be growing exponentially! I would love for you to do a video where you put together an outfit, starting with the shoes, and including: the shirt, tie, and pocket square, explaining how and why you chose those pieces. I think it would be of great benefit to many men, and you are the right man for the job! Thanks for the great content!
Thank you, David and I appreciate you sharing my content. I will make a video like that, but since it'll be different from my usual talking head videos, I just want to make sure that I do it right. Stay tuned!
Mine arrived yesterday and it's beautiful !! Would recommend to be cautious with the size because even with my usual size and Regular cut, it is rather slim.
Vladimir, I can’t believe you just posted this video. I got a navy hopsack blazer and gray slacks from Spier & Mackay last week. I ordered the regular model instead of the Neapolitan model. I’ll pick it up from my tailor tomorrow. S & M’s clothes are beautiful but their inventory is very small. I wanted to order a couple more sport coats and slacks, only to find out they were sold out. It seems strange that their spring wardrobe is sold out the first week of March. Thanks for the post.
Hey John, you’re right, S&M is great. But as you said, they don’t carry a ton of inventory and once a particular style is gone, they don’t restock them. They’re still a small company compared to the likes of Suitsupply for example, so they have to be smart and not bite more that they can chew. But they’re slowly growing more and more.
Vladimir Riché, fortunately, I have another sport coat and slacks on the way for spring. I’ll order my fall clothes as soon as they’re available. Keep up the good work!
S&M still has this jacket but in 330gsm, which seems considerably heavier. They still have 260gsm navy hopsack, Angelico's, for trousers. It doesn't appear to be see-thru so one might be able to have hopsack pants too.
The jacket is nice. The material is beautiful. I really like the tie. Just want to see you in a Windsor knot is that this single knot. You would look so much better in a Windsor knot especially with the spread collar like you're wearing in this video. Overall I give this outfit a 80 out of 100.
Very good as akways. A small question. The Neapolitan style comes unpadded or it bears thin pads? In the flannel jacket you are wearing in the video I see no pads. i am asking because I work out a lot and my shoulders are big enough for unpadded heavier fabrics (like flannel) jackets, but still, I believe that with thinner fabrics i have to have thin pads in the shouldrs becouse the jacket tend to loose its shape when wearing. Anyway I would like your valued opinion. Thanks in advance!
What’s up, Nikos? The Neapolitan comes unpadded. I see what you mean by a lighter fabric like hopsack possibly losing its shape and you’re not wrong. But these types of fabrics are not meant to look structured, so I think that’s fine, especially if you have the shoulders for it. I would say give it a try and see how it looks on you.
Vlad you know how you talk with your right hand in every video! Can you please use both hands? Please! Thanks (An impression develops that you holding either 1911 .45 cal or a Glock 19,here in Australia we not sure which one) Cheers

What pants would you recommend to pair with this jacket to make a suit combo? You mentioned that hopsack pants aren't ideal so would you go with another fabric but in the same color? Thanks in advance.
Hello Vladimir, as always good content. Just one thing to point out: you should check how to pronounce the italian word barchetta since the "ch" is not the same "sh" or even the "ch" used in Spain and Portugal. It works more like a "k".
@Vlad Thanks as always for your amicable responses they have really helped me put things in perspective. Today I aspire to have a yellow dress shirt, pink pocket square, Dark brown suit & dark grey trousers with dark brown shoes. whats your view?
I’ve always had a 3/2 roll suit or blazer my whole life, a popular style you would find traditionally at J.Press or Brooks Brothers in the dartless sack suit style with center hook vent. This is a nice mixture of styles however I do think patch pockets(with flaps) look better with a patch breast pocket and a top stitch or pic stitching but you rarely find it with double vents or darted. Nice Bro!
Hey Walter, I was kind of surprised when the owner of Spier & Mackay was saying how confused most his customers are when it comes to the 3-Roll-2 cause they’re not exactly new.
Vladimir Riché bro this style was particularly popular here in the States in the 1950’s through early 70’s with preppies but most cats now are just learning about gear, but I just sit back and laugh at all the guys I see with every button buttoned up like a nerd😂
Navy hopsack is definitely the go-to jacket for the summer 👍 personally a have a navy hopsack Teba jacket from Lopez Aragon, made with a Drago fabric 😊 really great
How many times has your dry cleaner pressed the lapels of your 3 roll 2 into a 0 roll 3 before they got it right? Do you remind them each and every time when you drop off?
Great question! Let me start by saying that I hardly ever had to get my suit jackets pressed the past couple years. I keep dry cleaning my suit jackets/SC’s to a minimum due to my rotation. But the last time I did, I forgot to remind them and they got it right but I’ve heard horror stories. The good news is, if they mess up, they can press it back to the way that it was originally.
What's up, Bro? I don't have any direct experience with the slim version but it's noticeably smaller from what I understand. The fit guide from the website will give you a really good idea of the differences depending on the size 👉🏾 www.spierandmackay.com/size-guide. I hope that helps.
Vladimir can you recommend and off the rack suit brand with pleated/double pleated trousers? I don't want to pay bespoke prices for my daily work suits but id love to be more comfortable than when wearing typical flat front trousers. Cheers!
I wear Spier & Mackay’s Neapolitan suits and the trousers are all pleated. I have plenty of videos on here about them like this for example 👉🏾 ua-cam.com/video/9A_pjZwEZPo/v-deo.html. Use my code 3TGTGE when you’re creating your account to get 20% off your first order.
What's the main difference between the S&M Navy Hopsack you showed for $325 and the S&M Ethomas one that is $500? What justifies the 40% markup for what is otherwise an identical cut? Is the fabric that much better?
What’s up, Sao? That mark up is strictly for the fabric. E. Thomas is a great Italian mill and is definitely worth the upgrade. I prefer the fabric color of the one I unboxed but other than that, E. Thomas all the way.
Hey Vlad! I hope everything is well. Just thought I’d drop you a few lines because I thought about you yesterday when I pulled the trigger on the S&M Neapolitan navy hopsack SC. Yeah I know I said I would probably purchase the TLB suede wingtips, but S&M is giving a 25% discount until Thursday and I’ve been wanting that thing forever so I jumped at it! The shoes will be there plus I have several pair that are similar, but a hopsack SC I don’t own. I decided to go with the OTR half canvas version instead of a MTO full canvas one. I just couldn’t miss out on it at that price and they’re almost gone too!! Now all I have to do if is wait until we’re taken off “house arrest” and figure out where it’s safe to go to wear it...🤣😷✌🏾💜✊🏾N
Vladimir Riché I'm tryna tellya!! I also just went through my summer trousers and I totally forgot that I bought a pair of lt/medium grey Minnis Fresco trousers that I bought late last summer that I never wore and a brown pair of VBC Fresco ones too! Dude, I thought living here was hell and not having anywhere to wear all of my "vines" after this madness ends...if it ever does🙄 🙏🏾 I don't wanna even imagine what that's gonna be like, but trying to stay positive and maybe I'll still at least be able to travel again at some point 🙏🏾!! ✌🏾️💜✊🏾
Any advice for people with more than a "drop 6 trouser"? I have a 8 - 10 drop depending on the cut of the suit when it comes to jacket and trouser sizes (size 36 or 38 jacket, size 28 or 29 waist). As I continue to lift weights I'm only going to get closer to a 10 drop. So far I've been just buying "cheap" unstructured suit separates from J. Crew because they fit me nicely. I don't want to go bespoke either, because I don't want to spend an insane amount of money on suits when I'm just dressing business casual. The only problem is that for formal events such as weddings, I think the unstructured look is a little too casual looking. Maybe I shouldn't care too much either, because I certainly didn't know the difference between an unstructured and structured look before I got into this whole "men's wear" stuff lol.
What’s up, bro? The great thing with Spier & Mackay is all their suits come with a 6” drop but you can ask for a different size pants in the order notes. As long as they have it, they’ll swap it out for you. I have an 8” drop myself and I always request a swap. As far as weddings and similar functions, I agree that fully unstructured can be a little too casual.
Nice! Are you Mr. Spier, or Mr. Mackay? I need to find a good custom tailor in Lansing MI, (from Detroit to Chicago) who can do fittings for me. And maybe some bespoke projects.
It’s a cheap $20 bracelet that my kids got me when we went away last Summer. I’ve been meaning to get a better one but this one is sentimental, so I’ll keep wearing it until it snaps.
Hey my brother I love your videos but i am a BIGGER guy i waer a 56 regular suite can you suggest a company that i can find a good and stylish suite that is not big and tall dxl .
Hey Al! From my experience working with clients, custom is the way to go but there are limitations there too. Like with Spier & Mackay for example, I believe 52 is the biggest custom jacket size they can make. Let me do a bit of research on it.
I work for an apparel company called DXL. We cater to big and tall, we carry everything you would ever need and have sizes ranging from 48 to 64 (in suits). Check it out online for yourself!
What’s up, bro? Since I rep for the big guys, I wouldn’t fit in a slim, so always contemporary for me. My tailor is actually in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, he’s been there for over 50 years. Since I live in the suburbs, it’s closer to my house.
Vladimir, I really enjoy your channel, thank you. But I also have a question for you. Regarding suit coats, my chest is 42 but my gut needs a 43 which is very hard to find. So do you buy 42 in hopes of being able to let it out or a 44 and take it in. Naturally if you're buying it in store and they have a tailor it's no problem but on clothes bought online it is. What's you opinion?
Thanks for your kind words. My advice is to always buy bigger and take it in as opposed to the alternative as you never really know how much extra fabric there is inside. Hope that helps.
I bought a hop sack blazer last week, but it wasn’t navy. There was one I liked, but for the sake of the bank account, I chose a color I didn’t already own. Also, it looks like you’re wearing me on your lapel.
@@v_r_ , ha ha nice. Definitely have a couple of his early albums copied to my phone. Top 5 Lyricist for sure. Though more recently, Nas is also a big time entrepreneur and investor.
First, whoever left a thumbs down is a certified hater. Second, how does the Neapolitan cut compare to their slim fit? I’m interested in the Neapolitan but I’ve been wondering about the fit issue.
Haha...you know how it is, I can’t please everybody. I don’t have any direct experience with their slim fit but they do a really good job on their website with the measurements guide for each style. Check them out here 👉🏾 www.spierandmackay.com/size-guide and don’t forget to go through my link if you decide to buy. 🙏🏾🙏🏾

You're one of the very few non-italian people who can actually pronounce "camicia" correctly. That being said, "barchetta" is pronounced with a hard c (k sound), i guess you can't get them all right :) It is interesting to me, used to everything international being in english, that in traditional menswear (and also a little in classical music) Italian still is the standard, or "lingua franca" if you will.
What’s your go-to Spring/Summer fabric?
Vladimir Riché I like the Fresco fabric for suits and linen for casual shirts.
I've bought linen fresco jackets (one with a wool-silk blend); I'll be looking in to hopsack as a future option.

pedrocols You’re welcome!
I need another hop sack jacket, I’ve owned one for 8 year and eventually I had to give it away.
Hopsack is such a workhorse. Time to bring another one home.
@@v_r_ well, that and the 25% off sale did it for me. I should have the Ethomas next week.
Great video is the jacket wrinkle free
Thanks, Reddrick! I prefer to use the term wrinkle resistant as it’s not 100% wrinkle free.
What’s up, bro? Not to mention it’s an incredible deal with the 25% off. Great pick up.
Gotta stay positive, bro. Hopefully, we’re towards the tail end of things.
@Vladimir Riché Vlad,I'm trying...it's easier said than done! ✌🏾️💜✊🏾
Is that Nas? Respect!
What’s up, Luis? It is indeed. One of the best.
Haha...I wish, bro! I pay full price like everybody else.
Ay, another Michigander in the house! 👊
Hey Vlad, love your stuff. Could I kindly ask what bracelet you are wearing? Cheers, looking forward to your next video!
It’s a cheap $20 bracelet that my kids got me when we went away last Summer. I’ve been meaning to get a better one but this one is sentimental, so I’ll keep wearing it until it snaps.
And thank you for your kind words.
@@v_r_ thanks my man, just ordered a bracelet. Envious of your SARB035
Nowhere near the most expensive watch but I love my SARB.
Do you prefer a Hopsack jacket ou a fresco jacket ?
Hey Max! I prefer a Hopsack jacket but a Fresco suit and trousers.
Hey my brother I love your videos but i am a BIGGER guy i waer a 56 regular suite can you suggest a company that i can find a good and stylish suite that is not big and tall dxl .
Forrest Whittaker's younger brother! Great content. just found your channel. Subscribed!
Thanks for coming aboard! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
I'm like a 54 reg with a 44 inch wast, so why don't you do us big men a solid and make a video on where we can purchase
V, you get contemporary fit from S&M? Also who is your alteration tailor in NYC? I go to the Tailoring Room on Clinton.
@@v_r_ Thanks, Vladimir.
You’re welcome, fam!
I bought a hop sack blazer last week, but it wasn’t navy. There was one I liked, but for the sake of the bank account, I chose a color I didn’t already own.
Also, it looks like you’re wearing me on your lapel.
Keepin it fly! Big Man! Lol. Size 7.5 shoe but u reppin for the big guys, LMAO. Stay up my dude
Haha...you already know, Mark! LOL

Hi bro, just wondering if the 20% discount code still valid?
Unfortunately not. I heard it was getting abused so they got rid of it.
I have a navy blazer. Do I need to get a navy suit?
What’s up, Jason? I would say yes, even if you don’t wear a suit that often. One Navy and one Medium Grey suit should be a staple.
@@v_r_ Thanks for the reply. I have a charcoal grey suit instead of a medium grey suit.
That’s just as good as Medium Grey.
@@v_r_ Perfect!
PS. My go to summer fabric is Linen .
I like linen too!
Is that the rapper Nas on that lapel pin? If so.... Why?
What’s up, David? It is indeed Nas! I’m just a huge old-school hip hop head and felt like wearing it.
@@v_r_ , ha ha nice. Definitely have a couple of his early albums copied to my phone. Top 5 Lyricist for sure. Though more recently, Nas is also a big time entrepreneur and investor.
Facts! I just wish he had a bigger discography. One of the greatest.
NASIR JONES lapel pin?
Me. Riche’ , brother live the videos. Where did you get the pin from..YOU’RE DOPE MY MAN..Peace!
Thanks, Michael! The Nas pin is from Pop Pins NYC.
Appreciate it sir.
@@michaelpatterson669 Of course, man!
Do a couple or a few ways to wear it. Your viewers will be able to take inspiration from it. Keep grinding.
What’s up, bro? I will incorporate those type of videos soon. Thanks for watching!
@@v_r_ Yes sir. I'm on Styleforum as well. I'm also local to Spier and Mackay.
I knew I recognized the handle. I’m looking forward to visiting the store in person one of these days. Maybe this summer.
Does your code no longer work?
Hey Steven, the referral program broke when S&M updated their website back in April. Once it's back, I'll let everyone know.
What's up my bro Val. You are smaller than me my bro I am working on my weight Thirty more pounds to lose I Love the jacket great video . Peace.
It’s tough to lose weight in the winter, at least for me. I plan on getting in better shape myself. Thanks for watching, Glenn!
If you’re big, then I’m super big. I’m at 5” 10 230 lbs. lol
Haha...dude was wilding
First, whoever left a thumbs down is a certified hater. Second, how does the Neapolitan cut compare to their slim fit? I’m interested in the Neapolitan but I’ve been wondering about the fit issue.
Haha...you know how it is, I can’t please everybody. I don’t have any direct experience with their slim fit but they do a really good job on their website with the measurements guide for each style. Check them out here 👉🏾 www.spierandmackay.com/size-guide and don’t forget to go through my link if you decide to buy. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Dope context. You are nowhere near a big guy if you are purchasing from Spier & Mackey. They don't even carry my size.
What’s up, Valton? Big is subjective, I guess. To some, technically I’m a big guy LOL. Thanks for watching, bro!
Brother 👊
The guy who made that comment is funny and full of 💩
I'm a big guy at
5'11" 241 lb👔
So I hope he invest in a good pair of eyeglasses 👓👀
😂 😁🤣😆
Keep up the great work 👇
Only you do best ✅ ☝️👌👏👍💪👊
Amen! 👌
Thanks, Gordon! I will

SnM VS SUITSUPPLY....
S&M hands down. It's a better product and at a better price.
Vladimir Riché wow.... okay
SnM I will give them a try for suits
I did buy the overcoat in your last video in camel color
You're one of the very few non-italian people who can actually pronounce "camicia" correctly. That being said, "barchetta" is pronounced with a hard c (k sound), i guess you can't get them all right :)
It is interesting to me, used to everything international being in english, that in traditional menswear (and also a little in classical music) Italian still is the standard, or "lingua franca" if you will.
Thanks for the lesson, so it's pronounced Barketta. I have to remember that for next time.
:)
