This particular crate, which IS by far the best one around, was called the "Supreme Crate" and was sold exclusively at The Container Store. The patent number is theirs. In 2018 the mold used for producing these broke, and the company felt like the cost for creating a new one was more than it was worth, so they discontinued the item. It's a real disappointment because these are awesome. If anyone has any they would like to get rid of, let me know. I need a few.
I picked up several at Tower Records. Wished I had gotten more. Thanks for adding the patent pending info in the description. It's how I found your video. BTW.... you didn't mention that the are also modular. The little nubs on one crate will lock solidly into other crates. You can build in many different configurations. Like some standing up, and others with the opening facing you. They're awesome. Thanks for the info!
I found these a a local hardware store chain called Damman Hardware (no longer in business) in the late 80's. I couldn't believe my luck so I bought several cases. I was using 3/4 height plastic milk crates so they couldn't be stacked. For some strange reason, I ripped the labels off all but one. They were called The StorageMate modular storage system by Tucker Housewares. They only had the full size. I've been using them ever since and they are perfect for my needs. Only a few have one of the handles broke off. I have a couple in my garage storing miscellaneous tools (big mistake). Not sure if they could be cleaned enough to bring them indoors. Along with Japanese Mylar resealable sleeves, one of the best purchases for my collection.
I have a nice purple one of these that a friend gave me when I bought a piece of his collection and I stumbled on your video looking for more. Thanks for the tips!
Man, I wish I had your luck. I've kept my eyes out for these older style crates since I was a kid and have only ever found the smaller ones that they switched to, supposedly to deter vinyl collectors from copping them hahaha cool video though, man. Lovely wall shelves. Cheers!
Got one! It holds my albums from my youth! I worked at a Drugstore that had a Soda Fountain in it in High School. The Milk Man gave me a yellow one! It is so sturdy! Well, they've survived for well over 30 years!
Second bump for the Farmplast super crates. Perfect size for records. Securely lock together for stacking. Records sit 1.5" below top edge of crate so plenty of room for crates to stack. Super sturdy. Only issue is shipping. You can buy a 4-pack of them for around $87 shipped. My local shop orders a pallet (54) at a time and sells them for $20 which is a deal.
I was gonna say about our Canadian sizes, I never seen these up here with that height so you can stack with the whole record covered. Ours are about 11 inch height. You always had to stack sideways. I seen some real trashed collections where people stack right on top of that little bit of exposed records. Mind you they reproduce these now so maybe I should look around for these. That Pat. will really help. Thanks for this vid Pilmer
i keep day dreaming about you scanning this into 3d plans (is that a thing? ) and uploading the file so that I can get this 3d printed. or you sell me one, and let me do that. i cant find these anywhere and I need the skinny one--i have a ton of hiphop singles that i want to be portable.
People need to stop calling those milk crates because it perpetuates the myth that milk crates were ever big enough to hold album size records. They were made for records etc and that’s all they ever were. That said, I love those crates and have many I’ve gotten from goodwill. I also have several of the half width and a few of the half width and half height ones.
i recently bought the crossley record storage box for $30 at walmart, def not worth it, it’s cheaply made and is slowly warping my records, my dad has always had milk crates (from his work) so i was wondering if they’d be better for my records. he doesn’t have these exact milk crates but something similar, but i’m hoping they’ll work better for my records, i hate seeing them warped.
They are so good but they adjusted the size of them here in Canada so that they dont fit vinyl anymore, did they do that in America too? $1?! No way. They go for $15-20 here.
Besides our Donlands, Sealtest etc old crates before metric system changed I never seen crates this deep in Toronto. Anyone? I swear they changed the system up here back in the 80s cause all the milk companies were loosing all the crates lol
@@paullamb9366yup! I’m from Ottawa, and have never seen the old larger sized crates. I heard the same thing, that they changed the size because they were losing too many lol
Be careful! All of these on Amazon might start out at 13” on the top but they taper down to 11”. I just sent some back. Won’t be fooled again! 👍👍👍 Beatrice foods start out at $15.00 each then they hit you with a $24.00 shipping fee! Umm…..nope!
Not that easy to find anymore. I buy them anytime I see them. I prob have around 30 full size and 12 half size. I also found a full size one that is half the height. Never seen another one of those in all my digging

I’ve never seen the half sized crates before! So cool!
Thanks for the info bro. Will be on the look out. 👍

That damn milm man knew what he was doing. Lol. These crates are hard to find. Lucky.

I’ve never seen that second type. Awesome video. Thank you.
i have a couple dozen of these full or records in my basement, found myself record digigng in my own stash
Nice vid. I found that out the hard way. Found some newer models. They're no good for vinyl. Can't fit a Vinyl record in. Thx for sharing
Useful information

Looks like they’re made by a brand called Tucker International… still on the hunt for my first… no luck yet

Farmplast sells a model called the Super-crate. 4 for $39.
These farmplast super crates are THE BEST. My local buys a pallet at a time and sells them for $20. A great deal for a great crate.

Random but can you tell me what kind of shelves you have in the background?
Those were custom made by a friend many years ago.
Those are the best!

How does it warp the records?

So how many fit per crate
I'd estimate around 100 records per crate.
I found those at yard sales a couple times but the people never want to sell them.
True! Happens to me, too.

How many records do they hold these crates
I'd guess around 100 each crate
