This is the opening song of the Abba Voyage concert on London. It sets the tone of what is an absolutely amazing show. The way it builds and that 'outer worldly' sound was so ahead of its time and the perfect opener to the concert. I'm convinced Abba were sent from a more advanced planet. Masterpiece
When I was a child listening to this album I was not mature enough to understand its depth and meaning, now as an adult, its absolutely brilliant. Almost a masterpiece.
True.....maybe the best pop album ever made ! Every possible emotion is included.....and they have never sounded more authentic.......this album was and is the soundtrack of my life ! ❤
don't know if you know (or care), but this song was HUGE, HUGE in gay bars after it came out. The dj always played the extended cut and would synch it so that the bridge at 4:00 was in a loop two or three times, and on the final rep, the dj cracked the "eggs" up in the ceiling frame, covering the dancers in a shower of confetti, most of which would stick to the dancers because everyone was shirtless and sweaty and drunk and high on poppers. Ah, such good memories.
too bad they didn't crack the eggs of confetti on the crowd at the new ABBA show, seeing as how this is the opening track. But they come pretty close to replicating the dance club experience though. :)
First digitally recorded album, always experimenting. Defintely a mature, grown up album exploring the worries of the '80s. On this Frida's vocals are so controlled, the micro changes are brilliant.

Talking about "first" The first International Standard Musical Work Code was assigned in 1995 to ABBA "Dancing Queen"; the code is T-000.000.001-0. their first and only number one single in the USA.
My all time favourite ABBA track! As the Guardian wrote: „ABBA doing Joy Division“... :-) Björn was writing about Russian dissidents during the Cold War.
If you listen to just the instrumental part, you'll notice it's a lot like a roller coaster. By the time you get to the word 'smiling', it was almost like you had climbed the hill for that straight down drop and it's fast paced afterwards. I get goosebumps everytime.

This is an EPIC song and so underrated in ABBA’s catalog. Such a forward sounding song upon release back in ‘81 and still sounds ahead of its time even now! Brilliant production and so apparent that Benny was heavily involved in that given the prominent synth work and overall electronic feel to the song. It’s a masterpiece of studio craft as well as a damn incredibly melodic and catchy song. It would be good if you guys communicated a little more about what specifically you hear in a song when you do a video reaction. And why you did or didn’t like what you heard or saw (if your reaction post is with music video). Where are you guys based? I’m assuming UK, but, I’m an American, so, you know how that goes, we can be “thick” when it comes to things out of our bubble, 😝
Thanks for the feedback, we're looking into getting a few microphones soon, so we can comment during the video, just struggling to find which is best 👀 Haha, yeahh from the UK, England to be exact! Looking forward to reacting to some more ABBA soon 🎶

Hello from Texas- First of all "Thank you" for letting the song complete. A song has to flow, it cant be stopped of the composition is lost. This ABBA change came at the end of the Disco era so I understood the direction when it was released. Still my personal favorite, but so many are good. ABBA brought beautiful harmony to music and I compare their ability to harmonize as a group, just as good as the individual ability of Freddy Mercury, the best of all singers. ABBA didn't sell explosions, lasers, unique guitar riffs, or even a political position. ABBA was based on authentic talent, imagination, class, and a beautiful stage presence that remained timeless. And before I get labeled a fan boy, know that I have no borders on music. In my tunes you find Black Sabbath, KC and the Sunshine Band, DEVO, Echo and the Bunnymen, NWA, AC/DC , Judas, Sid Vicious, The Animals, Charlie Pride, The Judds, and even the 1964 Drifters. But of course, Led Zeppelin will always be number one. If you love just one genre, then you are missing so much. I love ABBA, they remind me of Enya. People that write their music off are really missing some gem art. Great review, and again.. Thank you for letting the song complete. Thats what makes you better than the others !!!
Thanks for checking out the video and the support! We appreciate it! We're always looking to react to more music, so we'll definitely check those out 🎶
Visitors was about persecution of political prisoners and the clamp down on freedoms in thee East before the Wall fell in Berlin! Musically for the time, it was so advanced. The word “brilliant” came to mind! Unfortunately it was v confusing bcoz ABBA was not forthcoming at the time.. as to the song’s intent or who exactly were “the visitors”? But eventually it was revealed,, much respect ✊ to ABBA for their guts.
There really is a huge variety in ABBA's music, which is one of their biggest strengths. I've already given you an extensive list on your SOS video, so I'll just refer to that comment again. Trust me, you haven't even scratched the surface.
You must listen to ABBAs "Put on your white sombrero" Wonderful how the girls playing with their voices, the tones up and down in unusual places. Actually One of my favorites.
I've loved ABBA since I was 5 now, I'm nearin 40 but still their music never grow old in me. 😂 Hope you can also react to these songs: "Me and I", "Lay all your love on me", "Arrival", "One of Us" and "Our Last Summer". They are wonderful music gems.
I have only heard this song tonight omg I need to ask my mum if she’s remembers it , I am 21 and loved the big bangers of mama Mia but not heard much else ! This is insanely good !
Great ABBA song - and great reaction! It´s nice that you are so open for new suggestions and types of music you normally wouldn´t listen to! So try ABBA again and be surprised: "Like an angel passing through my room" - it´s clearly not typical ABBA - but a great and beautiful song - almost a lullaby miced with opera!
Thanks for the feedback! We thought it would be a great chance to expand our musical interest 🎶 we'll make sure to add that to the list and check it out!
Hi guys......i will give you two abba songs which describes what you would like to do when in lockdown.....eagle alongside the video that goes with it showing the great eagles of the U.S. and be able to fly free and secondly Happy Hawaii which brings the jealousy of us not being able to go on holiday. The melody for the second one is almost the same as another one of their great songs but with a hawaiin flavor but is still good fun.
Never been a huge abba fan but I was listening to a greatest hits playlist on UA-cam. I obviously knew dancing queen, Mamma Mia, Take a Chance on me, and Waterloo but a lot of the other songs kind of blended together and felt like disco mush. Then this one came on and it instantly caught my attention; great song.
This was ALBANS best song. Great to dance to. It was about Russians harassing dissidents and the Russian government hated it. The group was all in the process of splitting up at the time, ergo the gloomy mood. But it's a great dance song.
The Visitors isn't a song that one would feel drawn to on first listen. Bjorn said that the song was about soviet dissidents, and when one listens to the lyrics with this knowledge, then the sense of fear and paranoia becomes much clearer. And now they've come to take me Come to break me And yet it isn't unexpected I have been waiting for these visitors Help me Keep up the good work chaps.
ABBA kept on developing themselves in their 'last days'... since you appreciated it, you might want to check out the song 'One Night In Bangkok' by Murray Head. Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus wrote that song for the musical 'Chess' (after the ABBA story had ended). Interesting stuff imho.
Another 'odd' song from ABBA is "Watch Out" from the Waterloo album. It show where the boys came from and what was popular at that time (like Sweet?). Another good song from that album in "Suzy Hang Around", I believe it is the only song that Benny sang solo in ABBA.
The Day Before You Came is one for you to check out. Quite often it’s the song that non ABBA fans admit to liking. Probably because it’s very un ABBA like. No one really knows what the song is about or what happened the day he came. But it’s widely thought of as being very dark.
"Lay All Your Love On Me" has it all, the lyrics the beat the music the voice, it is fun and deep at the same time.. you find this song at the Super Trouper Album.
ABBA has a lot of rock-style songs Fernando (rock ballad) Knowing me, Knowing you (too difficult for pop genre) Waterloo (glam rock), Ring Ring (glam rock), So Long (glam rock), SOS (progressive rock) Get On the Carousel (live version is a glam rock), I'am marionette (live version is a glam rock and too metallic), Does your mother know (Elthon John's rock guitar) Why Did It Have to Be Me? (Rock'n'Roll), Rock me, The Visitors, Like an Angel Passing Through My Room, I do I do I do. Hole In Your Soul, On and on and On, Rock’n Roll Band Eagle (art rock), Bang-A-Boomerang (Schlager) Love Isn't Easy (country rock) Watch Out (Glam rock)
IMO the ABBA song the Visitors for me, is very sci-fi in billions, tens of billions and hundreds of billions of ways and I thought wen I went to an ABBA tribute band concert this song not been sung was not IMO right.
You might be interested in Abba as a live straight out rock band. The best perfomance in my mind is "Hole in your soul" from the live wembley show - enjoy it on film. Just prior to that one they perform "Does you mother know - another great rocker. An early Abba rocker is "Watch out" of which there is a rather decent fan recording live in Eskilstuna. There is also an album version of that song
I am a gay boy and I did not like ABBA. Right from the start this song really grabbed me. We danced to it in the clubs when it first was released. It seems very intricate, seamless changes in tempo and music style. The aliens are arriving. In 1981 we felt like aliens. It's a masterpiece.
I think this song is about East Germany, an innocent woman hauled off by the Stasi. For more Abba, please do either The Day Before You Came or Disillusion. Sad ballads.
If I remember correctly, it was referring to the mistreatment of political dissidents in the Soviet Union, but of course the lyrics could be fit to any such situation.
@@Quessir They made a point of fudging it later and saying it wasn't so specific, but I (very presumptuously) do think they meant something along the lines of "if it's about a moment in history, people won't realise it's still going on."
This was ABBAs last recorded album until 2012 when voyage came out they all became disillusioned as a group having creative differences and broken relationships having been married and divorced from each other the two men Benni and Bjorn became writers for musical theatre Frida the redhead went solo but agnetha retreated to her home and became reclusive they only came together last year for the show of their album voyage which is now appearing in west end and they are not singing themselves on stage they are holographic images of themselves when they were younger
Try ABBA - Hole In Your Soul, epic rock'n'roll (glam rock) featurig Agnetha's metal vocal, specially written for Wembley and Canada / US tour. She's still listening to death metal
for another side of ABBA listen to Rock Me & So Long (from ABBA 1975) or Hole in Your Soul & I'm A Marionette from (The Album 1977) and Kisses of Fire (from Voulez Vous 1979)
Another darker song is "I'm a marionette" from the A𐐒BA the album.. album! You might like to compare it to GHOST's cover version. Most people say the ABBA one is creepier! BTW can you put the microphone closer to you, or record sound separately on a phone? Your voices are hard to understand as the room is echoey.
Great review guys, the song is about dissidents in Russia in early 80’s, though Bjorn (lyricist) never said what song was about ‘till 1994, so the public could decipher it in their own way. The track was a major gay underground anthem in USA in 1983, a ‘Hot Tracks’ remix was produced, the gay community likened the ambiguity of the lyrics to their own suppressed environment, with the fear of being outed and losing their jobs and their place in society. The Soviet Union sussed the song lyrics in 1981 and the album was banned there. ABBA had a huge fan base there, Money Money Money was ironically the first No’1 in the First Russian pop chart compiled in 1976, any ABBA records released there would create huge crowds at record stores for the limited supply, one story was Police had to be called to quell the crowd. If you into Heavy rock....try ABBA’s Hole In Your Soul. Take care
As a lifelong hater of Dancing Queen I felt so cheated when I found out Abba were actually good. This one was made so much more... affecting? since I was reading "Secondhand Time: The Last of the Soviets" at the same time. Just so bleak.
Dieser Song wurde viel zu wenig vom Mainstream beachtet..super, gesungen von Frida..Beste Stimme ever..Der Beste Song, auch vom Text her, wie es gespielt wurde, perfekt 💞

Thabks for the suggestions!
Check out "The Day Before You Came"!
Thanks for the suggestion! 🎶
Try the ALBUM version of " hole in your soul ..off abba " the album " . It rocks !. .. + go see VOYAGE...EPIC...🌈💚😇⭐
I always felt this was their Tomorrow Never Knows
This was their statement on the Soviet Union’s persecution of dissidents.
It could be about the nowadays situation too...so frightening
my youth, greetings from Germany
Thanks for checking out the video!
Try ABBA - Hole In Your Soul, epic rock'n'roll (glam rock) featurig Agnetha's metal vocal, specially written for Wembley and Canada / US tour. She's still listening to death metal
Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you for music....... I'll leave it there.
for another side of ABBA listen to Rock Me & So Long (from ABBA 1975) or Hole in Your Soul & I'm A Marionette from (The Album 1977) and Kisses of Fire (from Voulez Vous 1979)
Thanks for the suggestions, always enjoy listening to the ABBA recommendations, so we'll make sure to add those to the list!
If you want x\still another side try "ABBA - So Long (Made in Sweden for export 1975)". Great video. Thanks.
Thanks for the suggestion!!
Thanks for the suggestion and feedback! We're looking into purchasing a few microphones soon, so should hopefully be alright!
This was their last album before they all went their separate ways
I think that this song was there one and only commentary on the ongoing cold war between the US and USSr
Dieser Song wurde viel zu wenig vom Mainstream beachtet..super, gesungen von Frida..Beste Stimme ever..Der Beste Song, auch vom Text her, wie es gespielt wurde, perfekt 💞
Listen to ABBA the day before you came it was their last song then they parted company.
Thanks for the suggestion! Hopefully we'll be able to react to that soon 🎶
Wow! 😍
I was sure you two were Northern Europeans. Cute boys.
Super
Pure swedish rock
They take influences from all the music around them according to the different styles around at a particular moment.
@@starry2006 ABBA has founded swedish rock and scandi-pop, based on ancient germanic tunes according to a few doc movies. Unique sounds. Rock also could came not only from US/British worker's districts.
@@jodykendrick1634 Probably a bit of Gary Numan in there and the electronic sounds of the time.
@@starry2006 I know nothing about Numan.
ABBA has a lot of rock-style songs
Fernando (rock ballad)
Knowing me, Knowing you (too difficult for pop genre)
Waterloo (glam rock), Ring Ring (glam rock), So Long (glam rock), SOS (progressive rock)
Get On the Carousel (live version is a glam rock), I'am marionette (live version is a glam rock and too metallic),
Does your mother know (Elthon John's rock guitar)
Why Did It Have to Be Me? (Rock'n'Roll), Rock me, The Visitors,
Like an Angel Passing Through My Room, I do I do I do.
Hole In Your Soul, On and on and On, Rock’n Roll Band
Eagle (art rock), Bang-A-Boomerang (Schlager)
Love Isn't Easy (country rock)
Watch Out (Glam rock)
Try ARRIVAL from them, the only instrumental music they have done I think but so beautiful
Thanks for the suggestion!
@@Musical_Vault Thank you for answer me, this instrumental has kind of Scottish heroic vibe with both ethereal voices of Aghneta and Frida, you will not regret react to it!
‘Intermezzo No. 1’ is another instrumental track they made, ‘Arrival’ is not their only one
Listen to The Name of the Game - brilliant Abba song that was sampled by The Fugees for Rumble In the Jungle
Thanks for the suggestion!!
I would love to hear u guys react to some old Prince like 1999 or little red corvette
Thanks for the suggestions! We'll look to add what we can to the list 🎶
Listen to the lyrics. And you know why it‘s forbidden in RUS.
