Als "BBC New Generation Artist" und Preisträger des "Young Artist of the Year" (2016) sorgte Benjamin Appl bereits für Aufsehen und begeisterte das Publikum in großen Konzertsälen mit seiner schönen Stimme und Bühnenpräsenz. Auf seinem neuen Bach-Album spannt der junge Bariton mit dem herausragenden Alte Musik-Ensemble Concerto Köln und einer Auswahl von Rezitativen, Arien und Sinfonias einen Bogen über Bachs vielschichtiges Kantatenschaffen. In Zügen folgt die Auswahl dem Zyklus des Kirchenjahres, mit Musik aus frühesten und späten, bekannten und unbekannteren Werken, Parodien weltlicher Kantaten und der Entwicklung der Gattung von der traditionellen Choralkantate bis zur "modernen". Benjamin Appl singt u.a. "Willkommen werter Schatz", "Mache Dich, mein Herze, rein" aus der Matthäuspassion und die Arie "Was Gott tut, das ist". Dazwischen erklingen Sinfonias aus vier Kantaten. Als Bonus das berühmte "Jesus, bleibet meine Freude".

I felt the same. A terrible divorce, lost job, my three kids which I raised during 15 years suddently dissapeared, lost my level of life, the house I build,everything.
I found a person, my new wife, she brought me a hapiness I never could imagine, even for a destroyed person like me.
Bach, also helped during those though times, as well.
Stay strong, dude. Very strong, because all the bad times flows away sooner or later. And the hapiness could be around the corner. You only need to keep walking.

I don't usually comment on UA-cam videos, but I felt a very strong need to comment on this one.
I was searching for a single male voice singing "Jesus Bleibet Meine Freude". This version was the only one I found that fit what I needed, and even if I looked for a thousand years I don't think I could have found a better one.
Thank you so much for uploading this most gorgeous masterpiece so beautifully performed.
The following is what the song means in English (for anyone who doesn't know German or what the German lyrics mean - it is an approximate translation because German is so much more literal than English that it is difficult to translate perfectly):
Jesus bleibet meine Freude,
Jesus remains my joy
meines Herzens Trost und Saft,
My heart's comfort and balm
Jesus wehret allem Leide,
Jesus' suffering heals all
er ist meines Lebens Kraft,
He is the strength of my life
meiner Augen Lust und Sonne,

To me this song in the original German is infinitely better than the English "Jesú, Joy of Man's Desiring" because this one is like a simple prayer from the heart of a child in humble adoration of our wonderful Savior. May He always receive the glory, honor, thanks, and praise for suffering and dying to take the penalty for our sins upon Himself, and in exchange giving us His righteousness, all because of the eternal love He has for us.

Thank you for the text and the translation! I too much prefer the original German to the English. I'd change the 1st line translation to the subjunctive, however, to: May Jesus remain my Joy. Ja, Er bleibt meine Fruede!

Este tema de Bach toda mi vida lo había escuchado pero no sabía de quién era es una joya musical y como tal trasciende las fronteras y el tiempo saludos desde Santiago de Chile a los pies de Los Andes .
Benjamin Appl kann man sehr lange zuhören, ohne dass man seiner Stimme oder Interpretationsweise überdrüssig wird. Neben der geschulten Stimme einfach wohltuend und inhaltsbezogen gestalteter Gesang. Würde in in die Reihe mit ganz Großen stellen!
