I'm an old man, and raised as a 'city slicker' as my ancestors used to call me. I have come full circle tho and desire to learn the old ways such as trapping. I admire Dave's knowledge on these things and am glad people like him are around to pass this information down to future generations. I have seen his library on this topic and a library it is. Truly a resource to be appreciated. Dave should go down in history as one of the greats in regards to passing down knowledge. He is no longer in 'the shadow of nesmuk' he has blazed his own path. I want to say everyone talks about hunting, not many talk about trapping these days, that is why he deserves this praise. A firearm isn't always available or legal. This information is invaluable to our species and it's survival
I used to trap up until the fur industry fell apart now I can't because of health problems. I love to see you starting up these videos. I have seen many of your older ones. Thanks
Hi Dave, I am already several videos into your earlier modern trapping series and taking copious notes. I will continue with that series to completion while watching your new series also. Thank you for all of your other videos which I have also watched and intend to watch all of them. Thank you also for all the products on your website which you have thoroughly tested.
Thanks Dave, awesome video. Love all that you do for us On youtube and selfrelianceoutfitters. You and your instructors are my go to to learn new stuff. Keep em coming! Loved it.
Thanks for the content. Your original series sparked my interest in the subject, a couple of years ago. I keep buying traps, learning about history and developing skills. I'm here in central Ohio. Egg eaters are out of control and coyotes are getting really thick. I caught some opossum last year, and ill try for some 'coon and coyote this this year. I picked up bushcraft 101 last month. The kids like it and I learned a lot, and have barely touched the book. Thanks for the great work, and I always look forward to more. Take care.
I'm looking forward to this series Dave, I have often wondered if you would redo some of you videos with update views and equipment and explain why your thoughts/ practice may have changed.
I have always wanted to learn...I picked up some as you suggested...they will sit until I know what to do. Just another skill I feel will be needed in the future. Thank You Dave.
Great video Dave. You have an amazing ability/talent to create a thoroughly enjoyable classroom environment and I for one greatly appreciate it! Thanks very much!
I'm so happy to see a return to this topic, Dave! I love listening to the old videos and am excited to hear new tips and how your views and methods have changed since then. Thanks for the content! I'm looking forward to it!
Trapping will be a whole new topic for me. I'm greatly looking forward to this series. Like so many others, I admire and appreciate your benevolence in passing on your knowledge, skills and expertise. Thank you.
I live in AZ and considered getting into trapping a few years ago, but AZ has some pretty strict trapping laws. No foothold traps, live box traps only.
I trapped pinemarten for 10 years and I can say that I can now start seeing the results of my hard work. The ammoun of ducks, black grouse and capercaillie. Unfortently the "animal lovers" will never understand, and they will NEVER EVER put in the hard work a trapper puts in to help the balance of nature.
Fun that I still learn stuff from the guy I used to watch on the Discovery Channel when I was ~14 years old, how did that wound on your right arm you cauterized heal up? That was pretty crazy to watch, still impressed you didn't pass out from that. All the best from The Netherlands!
Awsome sounds like a awsome series an gold u an ur family are doing well an everything is going good for u guys can't Waite for ur new stuff to start to this awesomeness happy Halloween have a blessed won an spooky won
Good morning Dave, I started trapping because of your first trapping series on UA-cam. I just published my first UA-cam video and I’d love for you to check it out if you get a few spare minutes. It’s just under 10 minutes long and I’d love to hear your feedback on it. It’s titled “dead aspens hung up, amateur mistake”. I’m gonna do my best to make a living outside of the 9-5 world…. Thanks!
This is awesome. I just recently got into trapping and I've been doing a little research before I start setting. I know the only way to really learn is to get out there and make those mistakes LOL but I just got done reading your Field Guide to trapping Gathering and cooking in the wild . I thought to myself ," I should go back on Dave canterbury's Channel and check out some trapping vids and... boom! Whole new series. 👍 thanks brother. Shout out from Ashtabula Ohio. Maybe one day I'll make my way down there for a course.
Hi Dave I hope everything is going good for you and your doing well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us. I thank you for having such a wonderful channel it has changed many of my survival perspectives. Have a great day!
Ethics is the most important part of trapping. The antis are always out to shut down trapping. Its already happened in some states ie commiefornia. They tried to outlaw snares in some parts of Virginia. Luckily a conservative majority in our general assembly was able to shut it down in committee.
For controlling coyote populations, I trap, urinate on my catch, then release them. I’ve yet to see the same one twice… 😉 In all honesty, I think just the act of the catch is enough to make them steer clear of the area and actively persuade others to do the same. Killing them doesn’t pass on the knowledge. But I do enjoy predator hunting and am not trying to tell others what to do (the world has enough people doing that already).
Awesome video like always and very informative about the how and why’s of trappings I learned from my grandpa Ed about traps 🪤 and the meaning of the why’s and population control is critical for the whole ecosystem to be re balanced so I’m definitely watching the new video series so I can learn more myself 👍

Glad you mentioned egg eaters. I thinks it's every bit as important to thin out the coons and possums as it is for coyotes.
Possums are good they eat A LOT! of ticks.
@@bluemoose1972 not true. They only eat what gets on them
I'm looking forward to this series Dave, I have often wondered if you would redo some of you videos with update views and equipment and explain why your thoughts/ practice may have changed.
I have always wanted to learn...I picked up some as you suggested...they will sit until I know what to do. Just another skill I feel will be needed in the future. Thank You Dave.
I'm glad you are back on trapping and hunting instead of gadgets and electronics.. keep these videos coming!!
Super excited for this series. Thanks to the Pathfinder school and Dave for this breakdown and education. Godbless y'all.
Great video Dave. You have an amazing ability/talent to create a thoroughly enjoyable classroom environment and I for one greatly appreciate it! Thanks very much!
Looking forward to this. As a possum trapper from New Zealand I'm fascinated/impressed by you American trappers.
Great points. Basically, act responsibly and care about the resources.
I'm so happy to see a return to this topic, Dave! I love listening to the old videos and am excited to hear new tips and how your views and methods have changed since then.

Thanks so much. My line is out here in S.W. NC but not set yet. Also helping some other property owners who have seen their deer population decrease.
Great stuff. Looking forward to your updated look at trapping and how our views and process on it might have changed over the years.

And how 🎉
for coyotes and hogs there is no such thing as over harvesting in this state!!
I was t referring to either actually
Ethics dont get you an easy meal
Ethics will get you consistent meals
If you want an easy meal go to mickey dees.
I agree 😂😂 But! Trapping the animal alive keeps the meat more fresh until processing!

Save the beaver. But seriously save the 🦫
