I wanted to like this update. I really wanted to.
I've been a HUGE fan of White Lily ever since I started playing and her arc was the one I awaited for the most, so when the update was first announced, I was stoked! The Golden Cheese episodes completely exceeded my expectations of the direction the game's lore can go so naturally, I expected so much more from this. So much more...
And then the actual update came. I just got home from my exams and was so ready to bawl my eyes out the same way Goldie did to me months back. But what I got instead was... underwhelming. Lily is a hero to the faeries? That's cool! Old faerie guy has a soft spot for her? Yeah, that's nice! And then we got her reunion with PV, expecting at least a bit of chemistry between them... (it doesn't even to be romantic!) and then surprise-surprise, Shadow Milk pops up and the moment I finished sitting through the second episode a part of me felt like something's missing, like the devs completely forgot to address this some time in the sto-- oh right, White Lily's character development!
I did not like how they're trying to force Elder Faerie's death as some kind of big emotional moment, when we even didn't get to know him more outside of "stoic leader who cares about the faeries and protects the Silver Tree". Add on to that the beef between SM and PV that took most of the screen time for what's supposed to be the center ancient's development, and her sudden position as the Faerie Guardian in the end? It felt like a slap in the face of what her entire character stood for and it's a shame, because her not having a kingdom was genuinely made her super interesting!
This is not really an actual criticism of mine, but I also dislike how the whole PureElderLily love triangle affected the fandom; we've got people on tiktok yapping over which ship is better and someone on Twitter even got her account stolen because some idiot wasn't happy she drew PureLily and not their fairy guy-flower girl OTP. The community was just a full-on shit show and it didn't feel like a hearty anniversary.
Overall? The Lily lover in me wished this update could've been so much more. If they dedicated two entire episodes to GC learning to let go of her past woes, then they might as well do the same to White Lily. But no! They gotta introduce all these plot points within two thirty-stage episodes and completely push her aside in the process! My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.

i have to disagree since the update was still enjoyable to watch, and elder fairy's death was not forced at all, it has bound to happend since he is old, and the purelily stuff was allways being teased, is still romantic if you seen their interactions, white lily did have character developemt trewout the two episodes, her dealing with her mistakes and her new tole, and again she only promoted as the guardian of the seal and nothing else, no one in the faery kingdome calls her queen
a lot of your experiences in reacting is so real dude, especially the sense of something missing/unresolved

my biggest flaw with the update is that it didn't hurt her directly. it hurt her because they retconned the main story HEAVILY. originally. dark enchantress was an anti hero, a character doing drastic actions for the sake of cookie kind to fight the witches, and the ancients believed she was lying for power. and they had even set up the st pastry order to come afterwards but sometime between cookie oddessy and now. they decided "nuance? in OUR cookie run game?!??!!??! nahhh we should change it" and that hurt the beasts, it hurt dark enchantress and it hurts white lily the most. I'm convinced that if they didn't retcon this then im sure that she would have willingly chose to join the cookies of darkness. but now dark enchantress has been reduced to stereotypical evil grreedy power hungry villain trying to team up with the beasts, and white lily is just another heroic ruler with self loathing issues. and the st pastry order was retconned so hard they removed their gamemode and gave us the difficulty spike fever dream insaity that was the sublime cake tower
Dark enchantress cookie is most wasted potential character in cookie run beside licorice or pastry cookie. She has a lot going for character,good design and has fantastic English voice acting but writing department fumble her so badly they reused the illusion thing way to often and how someone who the main villain she barely in story when she is in the story it not the real her it illusion. Also i hate how one of the best cookie run story tower of sweet chaos got replaced with the most mid ass story and most overhyped legendary ever the thing I like about stormbringer that she called cacao a arrogant king that it.

Oh, good to know I wasn't the only one who noticed that White Lily got things handed to her for convenience, along the fact that she is doomed to stay on the kingdom because she can't leave the silver tree, way to go for the holder of the "light of freedom". [looks like she lost hers but it wouldn't surprise me if in the future something happens and the silver tree is no more so she can go whenever she wants 🤷♀]
I feel bad for Elder Faerie because he was only a plot device to give titles to her, I wish we would have learned more of him before his, not that tragic, death.
Ngl, Elder Faerie was the most interesting thing to me in update.
Only for him to be killed off so Lily gets a Kingdom... Big L.
Seriously though, Lily is just... Not suited to be a leader yk. It feels like devsis just stripped her off all interesting things she had to her(somewhat an antihero loner character) and painted her in best light possible yk.

They really REALLY shouldn't have crumbled off Elder Faerie so soon, him and his kingdom provide such an interesting parallel between the Ancients and the Beast, not having him interacts with them all is such wasted potential

Come on, I finished beast yeast chapter 1 (90/90 stars) as an f2p player, I have finished normal mode in chapter but I have yet to play hard mode (60/90 stars). I still agree it's beyond tough.

All I’m gonna say is, the story could’ve used some foreshadowing, like the devs could’ve hinted at the light of freedom saving what was left of Lily when Dark Enchantress came to be, but that’s just me
Edit: not just that, but the half that became Lily was the Lily we saw during the prologue, I hope that makes sense
Like they could also explain how Pure Vanilla knew all along that Dark Enchantress was White Lily, like they could have hinted that he knew about they being two separate halves, that would have solved so many holes.

Honestly yea giving her a kingdom is what disappointed me the most. The idea her being separated from DE doesn’t make her less morally grey and interesting; DE didn’t make Lily interesting. Her curiosity led to her moral greyness and that isn’t gone.
People want her to be unlikable and irredeemable when she never was which is why while I agree with a lot of the criticisms of it being rushed and not planned the best and introducing too much I can’t bring myself to hate this update. Cause the other half of people disliking this update is just. They’re disappointed the story isn’t what they wanted when the story has long hinted at her and DE not entirely being the same.

i'm pretty sure most criticisms that she's separate from d.e isn't that fact exactly, but that she's treated as if she did nothing wrong
i agree, her not being d.e doesn't remove what makes her interesting as a character,, but rather that she's kind of treated as someone to pity (for being remorseful of her actions) instead of her actual self
@@whitelilyswifebut that’s just it it’s not pity she needs but understanding from the audience and even PV. She doesn’t want people to feel bad for her she wants people to see she did things wrong but that she also is trying her best to do the right thing and make things right. DE’s actions don’t equal her own- at least in the context of the Lily we see in Beast Yeast. They came from the same origins, but they have since walked two seperate paths.
What I will say is you provided the best explanation I’ve seen to explain why it bothers people cause from that stand point I do get it, it just never bothers me as I never read DE’s actions as Lily’s for a variety of reasons including the fact DE had character and personality from CROB that carried over to Kingdom and doesn’t mesh well with who Lily is or was. It doesn’t feel like a natural progression for her; to compare, Pearl’s descent into malice and anger works cause what provokes and triggers it has a clear through line. She wanted to protect the sea and herself. To her twisted mind, what she is doing is doing just that even if in reality it isn’t. She’s a villain but one with logic that makes sense.
DE is just. Blindly hateful even to those on her side (lashing out at Pom, looking at Licorice with contempt). If her anger is because cookies are meant to be eaten, then why is she now attacking cookies who had nothing to do with even those standing in her way of recreating the world. To me, she reads more as who Malefiecient originally was in the animated movie vs who they made her in the live action.
It doesn’t read as someone jaded by trauma to me at least as someone with that experience. But that’s my two cents. Again though I get your logic and appreciate the comment!!!

i see your perspective a little better now, though to clarify,, when i said she was treated as someone to pity, i meant i felt like the writers set her up to be purely good, pitied for feeling remorse
as you observed, d.e and lily are definitely different, and their actions don't correlate, but thats the thing i was worried about
though i do agree that dark enchantress doesnt seem like a character lily would ever be, it still feels.. cheap to have her get off so easily from my understanding
(to clarify js in case: not that lily and d.e arent the same, but that it feels like lily holds zero responsibility for anything that happened, when she probably still holds quite a bit to some degree, even if it isnt the whole mass genocide route)
she definitely is trying to do better and fix things, but at the same time, it feels too easy for her lore wise. even though she does go through a lot of hardship, the general story feels rushed, like we cant really feel the weight that it has on her in a lot of areas (imo the whole "shilk about to kill her friends" thing),, in turn, making it feel like she didnt try at all to be redeemed

@@whitelilyswife ohhh yea I get that I do wish they had given her more time on her own to explore her guilt, yet her strength and resolve in wanting to help others outside of the context of shadow milk. While he was entertaining, I do think introducing him as a character so soon ultimately led to the focus being taken off of her when, even if her existing still makes sense and is the best way to explain the contradictions in the plot twist, it felt rushed and cheap as they didn’t do the proper explaining. Like even to me the whole moonstone thing felt like a cheap tool when there were more interesting things that could have been done.
the issue about the focus ancient not being the main focus also happened to hollyberry but honestly way worse

I think what made me feel most conflicted with the update was THERE WAS NO ARC FOR WHITE LILY. Like, the ancients were able to understand their issues and, with the help of their soul jam, they were able to overcome their problems. White Lily felt like she had no change. They could’ve made it to were she acted more brave and confident about herself to keep searching, but to let others know, rather than just going by herself.
Yeah it barely has anything to do with her ties with dark enchantress cookie. If anything, pure vanilla cookie’s episodes have white lily cookie more importance

She could understand to let it go and let herself accept the fact that a part of her is the cookie, but that doesn’t mean she’s completely different.

ive been struggling to put my feelings surrounding her character into words but YES THIS IS EXACTLY IT!
i think my biggest gripe is how overly accepting everyone seemed. i would love to see the conflict of fae, now having to confront that the person who saved their kingdom, is also one of the people who tried to destroy it.
i would love to see the brave trio who's been with lily on so much of her journey, one of the few close to her that had betrayed her,, now confused on how to feel, as they understand her yet it still hurts
and especially pure vanilla, facing the same person who he loved so dearly, yet the same person who ruined his life for reasons which he could never understand (maybe a little overdramatized on that part)
yet instead everyone just.. automatically accepted her, told her that she wasnt to blame, forgave her when she hadn't yet done anything to fix what dark enchantress had done.

I also feel that Shadow Milk and the other old ancients were a TERRIBLE addition to the lore… he’s not a cool villain at all but also straight up a thing they invented just to put more Ancient Rarity cookies in the game… literally NOTHING ever pointed out their existence and Dark Enchantress simply doesn’t exist in this story mode? They didn’t only create a bigger mess to an already messy lore but sort of ignored the other villain like… WHY IS POMEGRANATE NOT THERE TO ALLY WITH SHADOW MILK?? THEY’RE ALL EVIL AND WANT TO DOMINATE THE WORLD? Oh and let’s not mention the disappearance of Chili and Custard AGAIN. Literally didn’t even finish the story mode 😭😭

I guess Devsis didn't want Lily to receive any backlash or be hated, so they went with "Dark Enchantress and Lily are separate persons". Which i find very disappointing honestly. It just became boring "Good vs Evil".
You're not considering the fact the Soul Jam of Freedom saved White Lily from completely turning into Dark Enchantress.
The Soul Jam saved what was left of White Lily.
I've always knew that White Lily is still out there and somehow alive or something.

White Lily lore always was the most confusing to me. Like why she exists as Lily and Enchantress at the same time in the prologue?

Edit: also it would've been cool if she stayed as Enchantress. Like the most generic thing they could've do with her is make her separated from DE, and they did that. I wished they would've stayed the one person.

Her soul jam probably made a copy of White Lily with her past memories and emotions.
While the original White Lily(her empty body) was still in the Fairie Kingdom.

@@emptinessitself what plot hole? the game literally explained to you the reason, and her and dark encantress being separated is much interesting ebcause it gives white lily chance to grouth and redeeme so she can confornt her half self and accept her flawd thus these two would merge as one whole
that is what the devs are intended and as "rush" as the beast yeast was (even thow we have more episodes to come by) the episodes where still entertaining to watch and white lily has plenty of room to grow as an character

Out of all the Ancient Heroes, White Lily Cookie was my most favorite one. She's stunning, ethereal, my precious baby that deserved better. I was genuinely disappointed when Devsis gave us some of her lore (they already did her dirty during the tower of sweet chaos 💀), and not just that, the beast yeast update didn't give her a lot character lore in depth, so it didn't struck me just as golden cheese's was.
Probably the reason why I rarely play CRK nowadays:(

Hey Hey Hey, atleast this entire update is better than the Disney collab.
Also this update is a 9/10 for me.
I really love all the stories because they're all interesting.
Also this update is called Beast Yeast update not White Lily update, the point is the update is mostly about Beast Yeast, not only just focused on White Lily.
I think White Lily can leave the Kingdom for only important reasons, I think at the end if the first Ancients will be completely destroyed the Tree will be gone and White Lily will no longer be the guardian of the tree.
Update not disappointing for me but I feel like they should have offered more maybe a little into the update.
Oh thank god glad i'm not the only one here who like the update haha. Others said the update make them hate WL but it's the opposite for me, Silver Kingdom gave me a new perspective on WL that i didn't notice before and that make me like her a lot
This update definitely have its flaws, and the complains in this video are very valid. My main gripes are: Elder Faerie crumbling his way out of the story wayy too soon, Devsis wanting their cake and eat it too with the whole "DE & WL are seperate people" thing, near the end where Wl got her victory handed to her on a silver platter through her New ultra cool fairy queen guardian power
Even so, the fairy kingdom was beautiful, the expanded lore was so interesting, i freaking love everything about Shadow Milk. All in all, this was an thoughoutly enjoyable update for me

Same here! Even though I liked this update (mostly since wl is my fav anicet) I everything felt rushed to me. (I even made a poorly writen google doc compling abt this update) and I agree with all of your points. Elder faeire got added to the mess thats already pv & wl relationship/firendship-
And I also think that wl isnt the type of character that would be fit to rule a kingdom. I would see her helping with the ruleing of it (ex: helping with teaching others, helping the ruler with different tasks, ect) not being the full leader.

I agree, the love poition trope is common but it's basically the "let's drug this person and make them do what we want" trope. No hate against the shippers of course, but like?? Did no one notice this?? Not even Devsis? Just make him fall in love with her on his own volition jeez
This also remind me of pure vanilla's dream in the 3rd anniversary. Everyone was freaking out over "omg he said he loves her! Purelily canon!!" but, again. This is literally a nightmare sequence where PV is proclaiming his devotion for white lily/ dark enchantress even though she started the dark flour war, killed several innocent Vanillians along the way, and pretty much ruined his life+kingdom AND somehow PV feel like he's the one who failed her, constantly suffering guilt due to it. Again, no hate to the shippers, but the dream sequence is not a romantic scene, but a showcase of PV's deeply, DEEPLY unhealthy mental state. Yet whenever i see this scene came up it's always because PV confessed his ~love~ for WL
Sorry for rant haha, gues i've kept this in for a long time, i didn't want to risk upsetting people. I simply hate it when fans ignores the character's writing in favor of focusing on shipping fuels

At least give some Magic Candy updates to those Dark Enchantress' servants (Dark Choco, Red Velvet, Pomegranate, Poison Mushroom) first, to keep them still relevant to the current PVP meta

I had a Golden Cheese expectation :( they literally ruined Elder Fairy for her to have a Kingdom which i personally think is so unnecessary since from the beginning she is a curious cookie and a wanderer which made her interesting. And the playthrough wasn't that enjoyable like that of GC's update, that's what made me disappointed.

Honestly I hate what they done with dark enchantress because she was a character with interesting potential but they reused the illusion stuff too much and removed her anti villain traits from her character to make her a generic villain. Also am the only who hate the beast I feel like there just really bland it concept and only really exists to baby the ancient because this fandom has media literacy skills of a toddler

So please don’t complain cause she will have many many screen time from the silent salt cookie update. Just be patient with white lily cookie’s lots of screen time in the silent salt cookie update.

for starterd i do agree about the lack of content but what i mainly disagree is about white lily
saying that she had no focuse is misleading since since her felling guilty about her actions and wanting to atone is still focuse, her being the new guardian of the seal is still focuse, and her "being the queen of her own kindgome" was never stated, they never refer her as queen, and her "being stuck" is irrelevant since that only applied with elder fairy, and how is weird for lily to have her own kingdome? i know she is different but again her having a kingdome is not out of field and pure vanilla did give her half of his kingdom to her
and again these are 2 episodes, we barely finish with the story of the beast years, so we cannot judge an unfinished product
i also disagree with "to many thing" bit beause everything was executed well, shadow milk was still entertainig to watch, and i did love the sturggles that pure vanilla had and how elder fairy believe in white lily as pure at heard

Also yes, White Lily is not suited to have the kingdom, bc the whole point is that she's different. She's a loner, she's not a leader. It never was shown nor hinted that she wanted to rule for whatever reason.
My only complaint about BY update is, *Carameleon is such an useless character, I hope he won't appear again in the further updates*

I think since this update focused more on the new stuff, we'll get White Lilly lore and character development when Dark Enchantress comes out
I personally loved the lore to the beast yeast but once you finish easy and medium mode then it’s just gets boring because you cant pads hard. I loved this update a lot personally but it had a lot of flaws compared to other updates cookie run kingdom has had. But I absolutely love the lore personally, as you said they didnt focus enough on white lily and that is true, white lily being my new favourite cookie probably the 2nd most important ancient in crk I wish she did get much more of a lore in the beast yeast although the beast yeast lore certainly brought tears into my eyes and I instantly loved elder faerie. Personally this was an amazing update but I do wish they made it easier and focused more in white lily
Something that affected this update a lot was precisely the fact that White Lily was very rushed. Devsis took AGES to release golden cheese, which in turn caused us to not be able to enjoy her and then get hyped for the future ancient, Lily just... Appeared way too soon just to be able to be the face of the anniversary update.
Also, the story also failed quite a bit. So far, each episode focused specifically on the development of the ancients, on them going back to be heroes while also learning stuff (Besides, I also have my good share of problems with the whole 'new world' thing, giving a full new stamina bar). The ancients fumbled in their story, they realized stuff, they reconnect to their very souls.
Pure vanilla connected with his kingdom, with his people left and the GingerGang. We saw him remember who he was throughout the episodes, we saw him reconnect to his souljam, realizing that he needed to be true to himself and everyone again, he established the formula all other ancients followed.
Hollyberry? She dipped her family and kingdom as a way of escapism to failing to protect his friends, coming to the kingdom again, she reconnected with her granddaughter, she realized the status of her people wasn't the best, She realized this, she had a fight with Pitaya at the same time that passion and her love for her family completely returned to her (not that she didn't have passion before, but you get the point)
Dark cacao? Banger. He became even more bitter, harsh even, all the drama with his son was just perfect, Cacao being backstabbed by Affogatto, who wasted the few resources that a kingdom on a tundra had was also something great to see as it showed more of the kingdom. The fight with dark choco, Dark choco freeing himself of the darkness, Cacao and Choco ending in good terms. Dark Cacao He apologized to Choco, and reconnected with his resolve just in time to protect his kingdom.
Golden cheese, while she took way too long to be seen, as was pretty much the ancient we knew the least of, also had such a huge lore and change behind her, her people died during the war, she her his power to make a fake world where everyone was alive and everything was perfect, she was arrogant AF. Realizing that the world needed her, that she had to let her people go to protect and help those who still needed her made her come back to her senses, souljams usually only reconnected with their heroes, the Light of Radiance straight up talked the shit out of Golden Cheese, which further proved how much stuck she was in her delusions and sadness, the ending was also precious.
And White Lily... Again, she left too soon, she didn't give us time to enjoy and prepare, let alone get to 'finish' with Cheese and be hyped for Lily. White Lily had so much potential, being her and Dark Enchantress two faces of the same coin, being one. Separating them was an understandable decision, but in doing so they also removed all the weight that White Lily had to hold. We could've had her fight her literal demons throughout the chapter, of the light of freedom being a point in it, of her being 'freed' from her darkness. Not only that, but they introduced so many plots her story was underwhelming, we barely got decors for her too. She was different, it made sense for her to break the mold established among the ancients of how they reconnected with their kingdoms and their souljams, because she didn't have a kingdom. Not even the Faerie kingdom had enough time to develop and make us love the characters, because there were too many, the Beasts, Elder Faerie and his death, the love triangle between WL, PV AND EF, gingerbrave, SM and PV, the whole baking vessels stuff, it was too much. It didn't let Lily shine as much as she could, The update wasn't bad, but it left a lot to be desired, The expectations of how they were going to close the development of the ancients did not feel as satisfying as it should, as a whole, it could have been so much better if they had more time on it.
I haven't seen that intro for a good long while tho
The thing is that White Lily will continue to be a main character in the story most likely, unlike Golden Cheese, so that's probably why they didn't go crazy with her, beacose they aren't done with her yet

Even ovenbreak has its flaws now. I mean the start of the season 9 update was ok for me but then they removed trial stars and instead chest which gives so little when you need like 70. And then they removed the rewards for every 4 chests opened.
And they changed the entire UI and the story is terrible like be so for real. Random words of motivation are supposed to randomly make somebody happy when their entire race could possibly be extinct??
(spoilers btw) and then they decide to be like "Ananas is now on their side because for some reason him being on Longan's side couldn't even last at least one part of a story" And then they decide to make pitaya a true dragon just with some words of motivation. They couldn't at least build up some tension until he does?? Overall the update was horrible at least for me. (oh yeah and of course they had to shove in gingerbrave at the last moment)
Ngl, the lore is the only thing that what kept the update alive for me and also shadow milk cookie's voice acting it's quite good. I am personally not too bothered by her not being in the limelight because elder fairy cookie plays a huge role in the lore and that it is his kingdom and her connection to that particular kingdom though I do agree that White lily being the guardian is a bit dumb dumb. And PV sharing the spotlight in ep 2 is a bit eh, though makes sense why.
So, why I wasn't too bothered she was not in the limelight, is that she was semi introduced, remember she was the first ancient (as an npc) that introduced all the way from ep 2 and I may even argue ep 7 and 8 is where we got some backstory making her the star of the show. And, it makes sense why she isn't on the limelight for ep 1, because remember everyone thinks she is essentially gone, all of her dough is Dark enchantress because Dark enchantress is white lily that is what we all think before this lore drop.
So, Devsisters have to come up with a justification and reason why white lily is not actually gone gone so she is essentially a vegetable majority of ep 1 beastyeast thus PV has to take the limelight and since this Kingdom is not White lily's but she has ties to it. And the threat Shadow milk cookie doesn't have much beef with white lily other than her having his friend's soul jam.
But overall it's not a fun update as it should be. Not much to do, beascuits increased the complexity of the game not in a good way and a f2p friendly way either and where are the resonant toppings? The events are repetitive. Not a fun update really but okay update.
