I think this time around it’s actually fair because in the past leagues it was always the most picked region and I believe other regions deserve a chance to shine in a league too.
I've been loving these leagues videos! Your genuine excitement for the game mode is so infectious and even though I won't have time to play this leagues, I can't wait to watch you play it!
They are definitely going to add some relic or mastery to apply elemental weakness to enemies that dont have it. Without something like that, I can't see how they thought that this glorified elemental tome could compete with any of the other echo items.
I would like to have a little crow follow me around this leagues. Doesn’t have to be a fancy pet, just a little crow. Maybe he flies around and lands on nearby trees or buildings when I’m running around
I find it hilarious that when talking about what regions to pick people assume that all content will be done. I know my skill level and expect that any echo boss of master difficulty will be out of my reach and the rewards irrelevant. And I am not alone.
That's a strong reason for why I swapped Varlamore for Tirannwn. Sure, it would be fun to try out perilous moons and the new dragon boss, but I ain't fucking with the colloseum. Cannot be bothered to learn that. Meanwhile I can slap clifford the red dawg any day of the week.
I do really enjoy watching people of the OSRS community banding together to bash something. Whether it's the walkers, Fire sale, anyone who picked magic in TB1 or now the Axe relic and Kandarin. It's just fun to meme on something that at the present doesn't seem to offer much and seems to create a lot more interesting and engaging conversation than something strong like Fremmy stat sticks.
I picked Kandarin in the last league because I felt like it was a superior 1st area, but I regretted picking it by the end because it definitely has a ceiling. I was planning on skipping it this Leagues anyways and all these reveals have really just confirmed that for me.
A note on the grandmaster task completion rates: Kandarin was/is picked for points and dragon cup, that's part of it's appeal. so while yes they are easier, people are also picking it specifically to do those tasks. Where I and many people i know at least, got our 8th relics and then just ignored tasks altogether from there
Considering Jagex made the graphic with all the boss drops from each region, they're surely aware that Kandarin is looking desolate. I can't imagine they're not cooking something up to try and change everyone's mind.
I've lowkey wondered what it would look like to combine them, and perhaps phasing out it's main features is necessary to not make it a combined powerhouse. I worry each of them having an echo boss confirms that won't be the case this year sadly.
I remember in the first trailblazer it was kind of up in the air where the region boundaries were going to be. There was plenty of confusion over where Kandarin ends and where the Western Provinces/Tirannwyn began, and then we just didn't get a dedicated Western Provinces region and it was doled out to Kandarin and Tirannwyn. I think there was similar confusion with Asgarnia and Misthalin/Fremennik. Undoubtedly, boundaries were drawn so that each region felt like they had enough of a reason to pick them at the time rather than being entirely true to existing lore. But more content has been added since then and I think it makes a lot of sense to maybe redraw those boundaries again, but I doubt it will happen because what reason do they have to change it if players are used to how it is?
I think part of the problem is that the elf and gnome regions are already huge. I get why Jagex is hesitant to take two of the biggest regions and make them into one massive region, even if a lot of it is empty space
Having just completed my Zenyte and Occult grinds on my IM, I am actually really happy to not want to pick Kandarin for once. RIP Kandarin, you will be missed old friend.
Thank you for reminding me why I picked Kandarin in both trailblazers. it's a good first region. That song brought me to tears. Even if it doesn't look to be very strong, I might pick it again because of how much fun I've had there in the past
Thanks for the nice summary on the redeeming qualities of Kandarin still, pairing it with a melee build is a really smart idea, especially if we see any hybrid-ness in the combat relics/masteries
I tried to skirt the line of talking about Hybrid styles just because we don't have any clue yet, and it's probably safer to assume 1 combat style over a hybrid.
@ Thats very true! I hope we get some information soon, combat masteries/relics have me the most excited and nervous at the same time about how they’ll work 😅
Personally I'm going Kourend, Tiranwnn, and Fremmy. The fremmy jewelry seems fun and I want to learn CoX. You *have* almost tempted me to switch out one for Kandarin.
3 leagues in a row I have selected Mandarin, very happy to swap for melee for the first time as it did get a bit boring with similar zones each league. Love the song at the end as well haha
The main issue with Kandarin seems like opportunity cost, you can get a lot of equal/better items in other regions where you can also get other utility stuff whereas in Kandarin you only get those items.
Shoulda waited for this cope video after they prove they like it I think one of the few things that can save it is surprise making it a starter region. A second option would be a combat relic that gives base 200% elemental weakness that synergizes with the echo drop
Theory: Jagex had a reveal that would make Kandarin look better planned to drop earlier, but after the strong reaction from the community they're going to save it for the last reveal just to mess with everyone Also, counterpoint to "Kandarin is so good to take early because of quest XP": who wants to quest in Leagues? Personally repeating the quests is my least favorite part and I tend to favor regions that have a lot of good quest autocompletes.
One thing people are constantly over looking about kandarin is the fact it has the 2nd most magic % gained after frem. If you go frem and literally any other zone. Frem gives you the jewelry, and full virtus. The next best area is kandarin at torm + devils. At 11% gain on 1h mage setups. And +6% just in that offhand, giving you BIS mage offhand for any setups like ahrims barrows of the damned gloves ice barrage setups. Or harm staff fire surge with frem. K is actually the 2nd BIS upgrade over any other zone after frem. So mages should pick K/F/(a fun region they enjoy) Ignore the elemental weakness aspect, it’s still a crazy good item for mages. The elemental aspect is just a neat treat if you come across the right boss
Kandarin is a powerhouse early game region. Once we see the alternatives to grimoire and maybe if we see the return of trickster it might not seem so underpowered.
Kandarin is still just a good support region. It's not bad by any means, it's just not the fun option. They could've made it more interesting with a better echo boss, but it wasn't needed tbh. I have tried Kandarin every time, so I feel kinda done with that region in general, even if it's good for the start. I will go Varlamore instead, which I think will be both a good starting region and really fun late game content
Right and I think sooo many people have tried Kandarin every time, but for people new to leagues it's still worth a look at as an entry way region that's not dominated by PvM tasks
Thats the issue really. At least last league it was boring but good. As of now its both boring and just bad in comparison to most region choices for what you could want to do
@@Tatercon Yup thats why I'm not too upset since I doubt people would want to feel forced into taking a "boring" region again. Piety still strong though so I don't think it will be completely dead tbh
Used Kandarin for early game in the last 3 leagues and will definitely miss the huge boost it gives at the start with all the quest XP and some chunky diaries, but also looking forward to not doing monkey laps + BA for the 4th time in a row. Don't know how to feel about them axing the monkey and chompy tasks because I'm not looking forward to doing them but at the same time they were basically guaranteed points that I'd have to find elsewhere now. Will be an interesting challenge to let Kandarin go and see how drastically it'd change up early game + maxing, but there's still a bunch of reveals to go so it's entirely possible that something would pull us back, and I'm looking forward to seeing what it could be.
If they give us a tribrid relic, what would be the best region setup for a true tribrid build? As in, zero gear swaps, all you do is change the attack style on the Hespori weapon? Kourend obviously for the Hespori echo weapon, and probably Fremennik for the echo neck and ring, but what would be a good third region?
I think your point about the Grimoire was particularly poignant - when I saw the Grimoire, my first reaction was "That's sick, but there's a non-zero chance that it'll be competing with something I want far, far more". I find it silly that people are writing off Kandarin because of the existence of the Grimoire when it could very well be competing with a relic that sets all of your skills to 255 permanently and then gives you a rotten potato
If there's a combat mastery that allows magic to treat any enemy as they have a flat +30% or +50% or half your magic level or whatever to elemental weaknesses, even if they don't have one, that'd give a lot more merit to the Devil's Element as a standalone item for magic users
I don't think people were looking for reasons not to pick the area, but since those first leagues every other region has been built up so much that kand is lackluster. On top of that almost every annoucement has further pushed kand into the grave. Short of a relic applying an elemental weakness to any mob I don't believe its BIS for mage.
Kandarin being weak can be seen as good information for jagex for them to add new content and bosses in that area. back in leagues 2 the desert was super trash but now it is almost always picked by most people.
In my opinion they definitely have something in store to balance regions in terms of popularity. As a developer why would they want a region to be considered completely unwanted? They have stated before they want decisions for region picks to be as difficult and diverse as possible. They keep playing it up in the discord that Kandarin is trash and no one will pick it but I absolutely do not think that is what they want to achieve. There is something coming....that will change....everything. 😁
These echo drops are great but if you cant complete the content for the drops is it worth it? My heart is on Tirannwyn for the echo blessing but I've never completed a gauntlet in my life LOL, so how much fun am i really going to have there. I'm waiting for the Wrathmaw plug to be in kandarin or some other event style content which will benefit Kandarin greatly. We also have only seen 5 relics lol calm down everyone. it aint over till its over
Might be the only leagues I don't actually do, nothing like having a league that's made for pure variety and unique builds suddenly hinting you to go melee or gtfo..
I mean I mentioned it's also the highest Mage Damage region in the game right now, I'm sure that's compelling to some people to go for pure highest DPS possible
I went Zeah, Desert, Asgarnia last leagues as my main was just getting in to late game and I wanted to do some hard PvM with the Leagues bonuses as a taster. I got my full Armadyl with the XBow and then stopped playing as December came in and I ended up really busy irl 😅. Think I might actually just pick some chill regions, maybe 1 raid region for fun with the Clannies.
it can easily be saved from adding something as simple as regionally locked sigils that are unlocked after completing 75% of the region's tasks as an example, and making Kandarin a more OP sigil than the others, which would be a lazy fix but a way to implement saving kandarin, I'm sure they have plans eitherway, or adding a sigil for synergy with the echo sigil, like making everything weak to elements attack even faster or anything like another 50% dmg add on and if they didnt already have a weakness itd add a 30% as an example, its a lot of things they can cook with is what im saying basically
I think that was the goal of Echo Items and I'm really confused why the Kandarin relic felt so situationally useful compared to the rest, really makes me think something must be coming to bring it up to snuff with the others.
@@doubleshine yeah im leaning towards either a synergistic sigil that works with the echo variant better to be suitable for all situations or some other regional only add on thing thats not sigils and something completely else like god alignments but i guess well have to wait and see
really hope an upcoming reveal or relic or combat masteries can save Kandarin because it's 100% on life support atm lol. in the name of streamlining item acquisition to not require multiple regions, relics and echo boss rewards they have stripped Kandarin of pretty much all its value. But i honestly think that's fine. not very region has to be good. there are always going to be high value and low value regions. i dont think its a huge deal if this league just isnt Kandarin's league to shine.
COPIUM is real...People are also still smoking the HOPIUM that Kandarin will be "OK?" since there are a lot more relics to be revealed along with Combat Masteries. Lmao!
Im coping that there's gonna be a mastery that applies elemental weakness everywhere, and my alt could do something devils element with harm staff and surge spells to just nuke shit
Nuke the Duke lmao. Solid points about Kandarin being a combat style support region and good for league points. I'm still coping that they'll give a compelling reason to grind the harm staff with the meme incense burner
Exactly, I imagine this must have been something they cooked since elemental weaknesses even came to the game and it's their opportunity to go a bit wild and see what happens.
I understand where you are coming from with those three region choices, strictly off of DPS. It isn’t the worst. The problem is the lack of content to do you, would run out of stuff to do extremely quick. Just not enough content there. Sure if all you want to do is fish thieve or chop trees Kandarin is great for you. ( that ending was awesome btw 😂😂😂)
I really start playing osrs in this month and with minimal knowledge and skill in the game and wanting to play full magic in the leagues i guess kandarin continue being my first pick lol, i will continue with my copium haha
My guess is that there will be a mage relic/combat mastery where part of it will double elemental weaknesses or something similar and it will stack with Devil's Sight
You could quadruple elemental weaknesses and it still wouldnt be good enough to pick just on that alone, If there is an elemental relic/mastery it needs to be some form of flat x% weakness added to everything for it to be worthwhile.
Still have the new item from kandarin for magic, smoke battlestaff which is pretty great for standard book and tormented. Combine with fremmy and magic already has 20% from jewelry for when ya get shadow and can max it. Just now it isn't overwhelming. But yea i agree on usefulness of the offhand item too... too niche. Also yea totally right on the points. Was my first pick last league and let me basically speed run the points for relics and new regions. :) Just basically i think they wanted to make it where there are options now vs just... everyone hands down pick kandarin ya know? Now it is debatable which one to choose vs just saying... yea pick it. XD
if they remove ba tasks or add relic bypass all minigame task allowing you buy all minigame reward maybe k is worth it or kand and tiran will be western region or kand have raid 4 beta or double the points
I actually brewed up Kandarin for Devil's Element + Mory for the gloves with ahrims + fremmy for the jewelry for an incredibly powerful elemental mage build, but yea some of the tasks and pretty much everything else there fucking sucks and gets outclassed in every other aspect by relics and other echo/completed drops
I don't think its that bad, its just that the other regions have gotten a lot of stuff in the past few years I mean shit, might have to pick it and put that song on loop
I think they are going to give us Kandarin for free at 30ish completed tasks, before you unlock your first region. It will not count as one of your 3 unlocks.
I love doing Quest but not even questions of kandarin waterfall quest could literally get someone from 1 to 70 an attack in strength and it would hardly matter people pick areas because of the end experience of it also as someone who was high on the desert that being you I find this hard to listen to Because desert was made better before the early game progression because my Train Arena was buffed fixed since last leagues and on top of that temporary assistant better early game is a few task not to mention the desert easily has the ability to get you from Level 1 to 99 crafting which that is more than likely several task and they say the very least none of the bosses in Canada are in our heart it has thermonuclear smoke and the Kraken I can't even think of any other bosses at this area has and then let's just not forget those are blocked by not impossible to get levels in leagues but still fairly High Slayer level requirements
like you’re right, but why play leagues for getting points? you’re probably not gonna end up on top page, so might as well have fun with endgame content and complete/learn them with ridiculous power creep. I did solo tob last leagues, and then eventually learnt them for the main game, and my experience from leagues was helpful in that
Listened to the full version and honestly can't understand the production quality for a temporary game mode zone in a pointy clicky game like osrs. Probably Ai, but still too specific to seem like such... do you know the artist?
I think kandarin fairs better if jagex dosent go the classical "one cmbt style" route of leagues before in favor of tribriding Edit: i still wanna 2t scythe tho :(
i dont get it, we get a relic and everyone is like oh now you dont need this region anymore? wwe dont know the relics you are competing with though? there is an opportunity cost to everything.
My drop luck has been horrendous in leagues, so things like BIS gear/bossing isnt much of a determining factor for my region choices. This makes Kandarin a solid pick for me, unless they release a dry protection relic.
Kandarin has felt mandatory for so long, I fear we can't imagine what it would look like to just be average
I think this time around it’s actually fair because in the past leagues it was always the most picked region and I believe other regions deserve a chance to shine in a league too.

Lmao!
Watch, one of the final revelas will be kandarin is another starting region
Jagex cooked this league that it burnt Kandarin.
@@doubleshine inb4 casting 5 elemental spells on a target applies the spells elemental weakness as a debuff status
Just basically i think they wanted to make it where there are options now vs just... everyone hands down pick kandarin ya know? Now it is debatable which one to choose vs just saying... yea pick it. XD
This is not bad at all, hope in The future Jagex give some love to this region, more content bosses
I heard Golden God is the same tier as the Grimoire. So yeah everyone will go Grimoire :)
im starting to feel like Kandarin will be free pick at start or after picking 1/2 regions
the leagues discord has
Surprised they didn't even make kraken drop a compete tent whip. No love for kandarin
Abyssal whip is default for everyone (abyssal zone fairy ring) so can still obtain with just Kandarin, thus no need to upgrade it!
if they remove ba tasks or add relic bypass all minigame task allowing you buy all minigame reward maybe k is worth it or kand and tiran will be western region or kand have raid 4 beta or double the points
I don't think its that bad, its just that the other regions have gotten a lot of stuff in the past few years
I mean shit, might have to pick it and put that song on loop
What has Kandarin even really got since Leagues 2? I guess Warped Sceptre to bridge Iban's to Trident as if that matters haha
@ can’t think of anything else. But look at previous regions that sucked like Wildy in leagues 2-it’s practically a whole different place
THE SONG, haha I'm dead
🫡 Kandarin.
2 am upload pog
I think they are going to give us Kandarin for free at 30ish completed tasks, before you unlock your first region. It will not count as one of your 3 unlocks.
Let's go!!
Based.
I like Kandarin, but I also look forward to moving away from some of it's annoying pieces like Barb Assault and Chompies 😂
like you’re right, but why play leagues for getting points? you’re probably not gonna end up on top page, so might as well have fun with endgame content and complete/learn them with ridiculous power creep. I did solo tob last leagues, and then eventually learnt them for the main game, and my experience from leagues was helpful in that
Where did the song come from😮
Listened to the full version and honestly can't understand the production quality for a temporary game mode zone in a pointy clicky game like osrs. Probably Ai, but still too specific to seem like such... do you know the artist?
Genuinely just some AI song someone cooked up from the leagues discord, I was shook too
I think kandarin fairs better if jagex dosent go the classical "one cmbt style" route of leagues before in favor of tribriding
Edit: i still wanna 2t scythe tho :(
i dont get it, we get a relic and everyone is like oh now you dont need this region anymore? wwe dont know the relics you are competing with though? there is an opportunity cost to everything.
Pure cope
Kandarin Echo worse than a drop they now added to T.
Grim.
not feeling forced to go kandarin is amazing, don't like any of the content there personally
My drop luck has been horrendous in leagues, so things like BIS gear/bossing isnt much of a determining factor for my region choices. This makes Kandarin a solid pick for me, unless they release a dry protection relic.
3rd!
