One more minor point: Action cards go to the user's graveyard after being used, where they can be targeted or used for other effects. This is notable for Gongenzaka/Gong as his deck often required no spells or traps in his graveyard, but he later added a synchro monster that could banish spells and traps from his graveyard for a burn effect.
I think Action Duelling is my favourite duelling gimmick Introduced into the series the idea of duelling in a forest, volcano or ruins atop the back of a giant dragon
@@djt08031996the Winged Dragon of Ra would burn the entire field to ashes and most likely the audience if it's Immortal Phoenix mode was unleashed in the Action Duel.
Action Duels are definitely one of my favourite types of duels: you can ride your monsters, explore a Field Spell, and the different Action Cards are great. It’s brilliant!
Early on, the action cards themselves tended to be themed around the action field chosen. I feel like, once they started dimension hopping, all the action cards except Evasion and Miracle started disappearing. I think that might have been intentional; Since the Lancers would have more practice getting action cards than their opponents, making the cards more powerful gives them more of an advantage.
Makes me wonder if the system can detect if one or both players have ever had action dules before, therefor restricting what types of action cards can be found so OP ones can't overwhelm a newer player
On the Zarc point, he never actually wanted to hurt people. He just wanted to entertain, and the crowd loved the brutal dueling, so thus Zarc became crueler and crueler, and eventually went made for power.
Little fun fact: there is a field spell called smile action where it’s suppose to represent action duels (minus the parkour and fights). It allows both players to remove up to 5 spell cards from their graveyard from play. If a player is attacked, they can add at random one removed spell card from play and either keep the card but the damaged is doubled or send it to the graveyard and negate the attack.
Duelists locked in battle! Kicking the earth and dancing in the air alongside their monsters! They storm through this field! Behold! This is the newest and greatest evolution of Dueling! ACTIOOOOOOON DUEL!
Note that in episode 3 we do see many Action Duel Versions of normal field spells and they retain their effects. So I assume that the Action Field version of Gear Town would simply act as if both players controlled it and thus both could summon their Ancient Gears with one less tribute. I appreciate you including the time limit rule because a lot of people forget that is a thing. I don’t blame them because of how much talking tends to happen during turns that you can assume that the anime doesn’t have time limits for turns unlike real life tournaments and online PvP. Third thing, I guess. I love action duels, especially the earlier ones where the field spells varied. It gave the duels settings and genres, like other forms of entertainment such as tv shows. Think of the montage of Sora’s duels. We see plays, sumo matches and even games of chess and shogi. In Arc V, Dueling is simply the medium that these forms of entertainment are shared with. It’s not just a duel nor is it just a play. Last note, I’m curious how you will do the manga version of the Turbo Duel and Action Duel rules. Separate videos or just one with both since there are only so many differences.
Two little details about Action Duels, that i don't know if counts as rules, but i mention them just in case: "If a monster is on defense position, that monster cannot move to help the duelist to reach Action Cards" this is shown on almost every duel of Gogenzaka, and if i'm not remembering wrong in the first "Yuya vs Sora" the fusion user uses an Action Card to change the battle position of Yuya's monsters, and by doing that Yuya fell from Odd-Eyes' back since he suddenly stoped. And the other one is a rule of the Action Duels on the manga: "There's a limited amount of Action Cards on the field, and only one Action Card can be picked up per turn. At the same time, there's no limit of the number of Action Cards on the hand"
The manga flipped the anime rule Anime: Can pickup and use as many as you want per turn but, only hold one in your hand Manga: Can only pickup one per turn but, can hold as many as you want in your hand
I think the first one is not true. For example, Gongenzaka purposefully doesn’t use action cards, as they meddle with his deck. In the second example, I feel like the Odd-eyes stopping is just a visual indication of switchimg position that was exploited.
Actually Gongenzaka does use one of his monsters to move around, his level 12 Synchro train monster. So the rule isn’t actually consistent. I would say instead Gongenzaka doesn’t want any spell on his graveyard and also many others just don’t rely on action card or apparently don’t want to do parkour. (Maybe they rely solely and don’t need them).
I like Arc V because it had all the summoning mechanics of the time. Vrains would do it to though Link summoning still took priority. Arc V gave all the mechanics fair exposure and not favoring one over the other.
Yes and also no. Yuuya must have focused on memorising the highly likely landing sites of those Action Cards long enough to be able to pull Evasion on every time he picks up a card. Hell, on screen we morw often see that he moves around a particular area with as someone who has knowledge where the cards were spawned as opposed to one who is just looking around willy nilly. It also helps that the Action Cards cardpool doesn't seem to get updated as often as the main deck cards.
In the tournament before they went into the synchro dimension Iggy Arlo seemed to have no problem with pushing and shoving his opponents during his duels, so I guess it's also legal. Also in a real life setting, maybe you could chase your opponent and touch them with your attacking monster (the card) or something like that.

These were never used in the anime and never seen again.
The Action Duels used in Arc-V was a splendid concept. Not only do the Duelists interact with their Monsters (more or less similar to how the "Spirit Partners" work), you can also use the environment to your advantage as well with more space to traverse.
While I prefer turbo duels, one appeal of Action Duels is that recreating them in real life with as complete of an experience as possible is easier. You just need a couple of duel disks, some place like a playground to distribute the action cards across and an agreed upon time limit to how long you have to respond before an attack or effect connects. After that it’s just being careful as you can be as you grab the cards. Unlike turbo duels where you can’t really operate a vehicle and duel at the same time. Sure you can just print of proxies of all the cards, but that’s half of the experience and is just a duel with extra rules as opposed to an experience. That being said, for some like myself that is enough and why I love replaying Over the Nexus and wish that we could get more official Speed Spell cards. Sort of update the card pool so more modern decks can be used more easily.
If you actually pay attention to the plays and how action cards influence things, Yuya would have lost like 90% of his duels without actions cards as a crutch. Off the top of my head the only duel he wins without using action cards is against Officer 227 in the Synchro arc. Say what you will about the other protagonists having varying levels of cheater juice, but at least they're only sticking to their own decks
Something you forgot to mention is that Action Spells can be activated straight from the hand or face-down field during either turn while Quickplay Spells can only be activated during the opponent's turn if they were already set face-down on the field.
Imagine a 2-4 player arcade game which is an Action Duel, and you can scan your Deck to use it in game, while the players vote on pre-determined Field Spells or can scan Field Spells to guarantee they show up. Utopia/Onomatopoeia decks versus Cyber Dragons on Malefic World would be awesome.
Key rule to Action Duels: If you're playing against a protagonist and you have lethal on board you are legally required to make your final laser beam stall for at least thirty seconds until said protagonist can find an Evasion or Miracle (as someone who likes the strategic aspect and the actual turn by turn duels in the anime I am not a fan of the writers just throwing get out of jail free battletraps at Yuya every time his opponent functionally won the duel. IIRC later parts of the series got worse about this, or maybe I was just more tired of it, it was less 'will he find the Action Spell' and more 'boy I wonder how many Evasion and Miracle he's gonna go through this turn' anyways No Action and Crush Action are the only valid Action Spells. That and the traps the like two times they actually got used bc if your game plan relies on picking up random asspulls you deserve to get bopped for it)
Exactly, this video shows how interesting, creative and fun action duels can be. But seeing it actually being played out in the show is very disappointing because in reality it’s yuya just pulling out a random plot convenient bail out cards non stop.
I think action duel and action cards' problems was how they were used without care or thought for each duel, rather being treated as a resource to be used by the duelists whenever the plot needed. They would be a great asset to make duels more unique on how they could offer action cards The former bad use can be exemplified by any instance of riding duels where a duelist just picks up a card (or at most has to do a cute maneuver then and there). The latter would be like that duel agains aura sentia where the cards were behind a quiz show gimmick. In a riding duel they could, for example, make an action card to be yielded whenever a duelist laps the other one(of course, that would require the comeback of speed spell, which i am down for)
I’m glad solid vision is relegated to duels only, and stuck to large machines. But man the possibilities of solid vision would be sick. My car is busted so I’ll just ride my god damn fallen dragon of albez to work, or have my Uber eats order be delivered by plunderpatrol goblins. Start a moving business with my Dino wrestlers or have my dark magician girl- no, to much power. This should never happen
Action Duels are easily the most interesting of the “gimmick” duel types. It makes the most changes and softly resets a lot of the implications of the game which is more slow and methodical in nature. What I find the most interesting about this fact, is that in some ways it is both the most extreme and most logical outgrowth of a game that has become more fast paced and more kinetic in both the shows and the actual card game.
Easily the best duels in the series, and my personal favorite series out of all of them. Nothing got me fired up to get back into dueling like watching all the crazy stuff that happened in Arc-V
On a side note, Action Duels in the manga function slightly differently. 1. Fields have a very limited preset number of action cards, often in the single digits. 2. Only one total action card can be grabbed per turn (if an action card is obtained, neither player can obtain another one until the next turn begins). 3. There is no limit to the number of action cards a player can hold (hand size limit not withstanding). And there's probably more, can't remember off the top of my head since it has been a while since I've read it, and have no intention of ever reading it again because the ending is WTF.
Action Duel is the reason why I liked Arc-V. Lots of unique effects from different Action cards and the Field Spells are amazing, especially with Neo Heartland Field Spell (it's my favorite Field Spell)
Imagine a Yu-Gi-Oh game that focused almost entirely on Action Duels. Create your Duelist and their deck, select their preferred Action Field, and run around the field as you duel. There'd still be standard Duels from time to time, but they'd still be from a third person perspective outside of the HUD displaying the layout of all the Zones, your hand, how many cards your opponent has in their hand, both players' decks, and everything else.
The close glimpse of the tsukikage vs bb duel seemed neat cause of that vibe of like hiding and activating effects hidden from each other while clashing mid air.
There has to be some rule that says that if a monster would not be destroyed by battle but battle damage would apply that the attacker is required to say that their opponent still takes the damage. It's funny how even though it's supposed to include a lot of acrobatics and running around and stuff that Action Duels have a reasonable timer and not 8 freakin' minutes.
Having only ever watched dm and gx, man they went places. Also, I'd love to see the average yugioh player try parkour. Feel like corporeal monsters would be a lesser cause of injury
Arc V was alright. It drags a little in the middle, but they all kind of do to a certain degree. You should give 5Ds a try too. Its first arc is one of the best in the franchise.
I love this gimmick so much because it make character do something other than standing still and scream and this make more interesting duel concept, like how episode where the Academy attack tournament act like a Battle Royale
This reminded me to post the screenshots from DL on Reddit LOL. I've been lurking in Yugioh101 for quite a while and I think I should be contributing something.
So, apparently there was only 1 Arc-V video game made. A Japan-only entry in the Tag Force series. Why wasn't a full Action Duel video game ever made?! I would've loved to duel whilst platforming around like Mario! Konami, you idiots!! The easy money was RIGHT THERE!!!
Another interesting fact is if you play on EDOPRO and use Action Fields, several Fields actually have set Action Card that they always get. I've played on many fields for both fun and for videos I make where I need to give the Arc V character an Action Card to survive the turn, so I've seen this with a few fields. For example, Castle of Chaos only ever gives out Evasion and Miracle. Neo Heartland City only gives out, as far as I know, Mirror Barrier. And Crossover usually gives out only four kinds of cards: Evasion, Acceleration, Encore, and No Action. Thus, by learning all these sets one can build Decks that work with them. For example, building a Deck where you don't have to waste time putting in cards that prevent destruction via effect because you plan to play on Neo Heartland City where you can just spam out Mirror Barriers for that.
I don't know if Edopro still has this but when it was ygopro they had Action Duels as a playable format. So I did what anyone would do. I built 60 card singleton performapals and showed anyone who would join the lobby, what it was like to face Yuya in the anime. It was a lot of pend 5, spam action cards, and the occasional non-pendulum extra deck summon.
Having Yuya get an action trap in a later series duel to make his loss even more devastating could’ve been interesting. Making him question is strategy all together.
Ngl action duels we’re the coolest thing to me when I watched arc v when I was a bit younger. Actualt running about on the ground while dueling and jumping about just looked exciting than just the standing there in previous series.
I love the idea of solid holograms from yugioh, simply because of how cool it is, you can do this massive play to get your boss monster out, and when you finally summon it you can stand on top of it and be triumphant over your opponent.
So the monsters become solid and can be interacted with eh........Alright I summon the Dark Magician Girl in attack mode......Now everybody look away for a minute.
Wait, you missed two. If two duels are active at the same time, they can over lap and make it a tag duel. One can jump into a duel already set up and make it a tag or handicap, but you lose 2000 lp as punishment.
I thought of an idea for my own rules for action duel cards. The rules are there are three types of action cards. Action monsters, spells and traps. Action monsters are summoned to the field once there grabbed as a non effect token monster and the player must destroy it the turn they summon it or take damage equal to its attack. Basically you fight the monster. Action spells work like they do in the anime giving beneficial effects but instead of being there own thing there modified spells. Like swords of revealing light which when used shields you and your monsters from three attacks. Monster reborn let’s you and any allies revive one monster each from there graveyard. Some action spells benefit everyone when used. Like pot of greed which makes each player draw 2 cards. Action traps basically do the opposite and hinder you. Like before unlike the anime there basically modified version of other trap cards also action traps cannot be negated. Your gonna take that hindrance weather you want to or not. Examples like mirror force destroys all attack position monsters you control or Solemn judgment not letting you activate or set quick play spells or counter traps for the rest of the turn. The bar minimum required is 30 action cards ten of each type if you plan to have an action duel. The action cards are limited to a handful duel monsters era cards cause it would be too much to use any card as an action card.
Look up the Turbo and Dueltainment rules for Duel Links. I think they've done a good enough adaptation for a digital game. Turbo PvP actually exist, albeit it's a duel room format (no ladder). Dueltainment and Tag duels currently are only event PvE format, I'm still waiting for a PvP version.
I always had a hard time figuring out how turns worked in these. I couldnt grasp how often am I allowed to go for action cards and when do I actually have to stop and play cards.

More accurately, Action Duels are possible due to the Real Solid Vision technology. Kaiba actually invented Solid Vision. That is why the "holograms" have some varied physical effects in the various different series.

Exactly, this video shows how interesting, creative and fun action duels can be. But seeing it actually being played out in the show is very disappointing because in reality it’s yuya just pulling out a random plot convenient bail out cards non stop.
If only Kaiba was around for action duels. He would have loved it.
Yugi would hate it as he suck at physical stuff
I think action duel and action cards' problems was how they were used without care or thought for each duel, rather being treated as a resource to be used by the duelists whenever the plot needed.
They would be a great asset to make duels more unique on how they could offer action cards
The former bad use can be exemplified by any instance of riding duels where a duelist just picks up a card (or at most has to do a cute maneuver then and there).
The latter would be like that duel agains aura sentia where the cards were behind a quiz show gimmick.
In a riding duel they could, for example, make an action card to be yielded whenever a duelist laps the other one(of course, that would require the comeback of speed spell, which i am down for)
At 6:15 LMAO! Cool imma go into an action duel and overwrite my opponents field spell with mystic mine 😂😂😂
I’m glad solid vision is relegated to duels only, and stuck to large machines. But man the possibilities of solid vision would be sick. My car is busted so I’ll just ride my god damn fallen dragon of albez to work, or have my Uber eats order be delivered by plunderpatrol goblins. Start a moving business with my Dino wrestlers or have my dark magician girl-
no, to much power. This should never happen
We all make mistakes in the heat of passion.
Action duels are maybe my favorite style of dueling we have seen in the shows ( even liked the pre-duel saying it lol)
Video idea : The True Rules Of Dark RPG [Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters]
Well, now to wait for the inevitable video explaining the rules of ACTION DUELS ON MOTOCYCLES
I love watching your videos just a down to earth guy who loves yugioh what more could a person want in a channel.
Action Duel is the reason why I liked Arc-V. Lots of unique effects from different Action cards and the Field Spells are amazing, especially with Neo Heartland Field Spell (it's my favorite Field Spell)
imagine being a crippled duelest and then getting challenged to an action duel
Imagine a Yu-Gi-Oh game that focused almost entirely on Action Duels. Create your Duelist and their deck, select their preferred Action Field, and run around the field as you duel. There'd still be standard Duels from time to time, but they'd still be from a third person perspective outside of the HUD displaying the layout of all the Zones, your hand, how many cards your opponent has in their hand, both players' decks, and everything else.
The close glimpse of the tsukikage vs bb duel seemed neat cause of that vibe of like hiding and activating effects hidden from each other while clashing mid air.
Imagine a Yu-Gi-Oh! VR game that's basically BONEWORKS + Action Duels
Action Duel orgies...
Come on, I can't have been the only one thinking that.
As someone who dabbles in both parkour and yugioh, this sounds amazing. A complete blast
I myself have only watched DM, most of 5Ds, and most of Zexal but I have yet to watch Arc-V and rewatch GX someday. Certainly seems interesting.
Arc V was alright. It drags a little in the middle, but they all kind of do to a certain degree. You should give 5Ds a try too. Its first arc is one of the best in the franchise.
So you're saying Kaiba can finally truly hug his Blue Eyes White Dragons and screw people up with them for real.
Action duel is basically what every waifu deck player dream lmao
I love this gimmick so much because it make character do something other than standing still and scream
and this make more interesting duel concept, like how episode where the Academy attack tournament act like a Battle Royale
I Would love for ACTION DUEL to be a thing real life
You can ride the monsters?!?!
Come forth Dark Magician Gir- Blue Eyes White Dragon I mean!
Shay vs sora has to be the next duel analysis - easily best action duel of all time
Yep. It's one of my favourite duels in the entire franchise.
This reminded me to post the screenshots from DL on Reddit LOL. I've been lurking in Yugioh101 for quite a while and I think I should be contributing something.
The curser still bein visible in the textat the end there xD
Action duel with the magician girls…except you’re the duelist
You can ride your monsters
Lunalight players: _💀_
Correction: Holograms in the Japanese version is called Solid Vision, where as the holodeck-esque real mass upgrade is called "Real Solid Vision".
In the Arc-V manga, there wasn't a limit to how many action cards you could get in a turn, but you could only use one per turn. Just a fun fact
Because each turn a single action spell spawns
If I remember correctly, in the manga, there’s a maximum of four Action Cards in a duel.
I dream of a yugioh Duel monsters reboot where action dualing and Tcg rules are used in dualist kingdom
can't wait for the manga Action Duel rule breakdown
I love the idea of solid holograms from yugioh, simply because of how cool it is, you can do this massive play to get your boss monster out, and when you finally summon it you can stand on top of it and be triumphant over your opponent.
Zarc wasn't a psycho though. Wasn't it the crowd that forced him to keep being more and more violent until he became drunk with power?
Still a psycho.
So the monsters become solid and can be interacted with eh........Alright I summon the Dark Magician Girl in attack mode......Now everybody look away for a minute.
If Action Duel Will Become a Thing
I think i should go back to my dark magician girls Deck For EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES
💀👑: This would drain my body so quickly... I'm not fit enough to do this type of dueling. 👀💀
Zarc wasn't insane at the beginning people just want more and more brutal duels which eventually lead to essentially Armageddon
The disclaimer at the end was hilarious.
why i want Action Duel in real life to play with Melffy cards and Cuddle with them
I love the contract warning bit. Feels really good
Wait, you missed two.
If two duels are active at the same time, they can over lap and make it a tag duel.
One can jump into a duel already set up and make it a tag or handicap, but you lose 2000 lp as punishment.
I wonder how a action duel field is look like if the field not normal, like Zombi World, Mystique Mine, Ecole Zone, Live☆Twin Channel, etc
I know but I’ve been trying to come up with my own version pf action duels that people can physically play.
I always had a hard time figuring out how turns worked in these. I couldnt grasp how often am I allowed to go for action cards and when do I actually have to stop and play cards.
"This gave real mass to duel monster holograms."
*stare at screen*
*jump from chair to grab Dark Magician Girl Card from collection as well as the Rikka archtype.*
Normie. Everyone knows Yubel is best girl
@@petercross1879 Yubel is a boy
@@KaoruMzk Yes and no Yubel is non binary there are some dubs with both male and female voices it gets really confusing
@@KaoruMzk really Yubel is more of a they. They were a boy when they were human, but they are very clearly neutral gender in their current form.
@@alexanderbautista7930 Plus that the anime clearly made her more feminine early on, but then made them fully neutral suddenly, so everyone is even more confused.
.....LOL!!!!! I love the part that your lawyers said that you had to put into the video about action duels lol. So we have 2 rules here don't be like the main villain from the actual show and listen to the warning video made by TGS lol. But seriously great job on the video!
Wish you talked about the hybrid Action/Riding Duels.
I love how you added that disclaimer at the end as a "final rule" lmao
I can kinda see how this would play as a video game (Almost certainly have to be PC exclusive), but man would it be as tricky as it is hype.
Amazing video about action duels from yugioh, fantastic job.
Action dueling might be a good thing to do at home if you play dnd with it
0:30 you know what this leads, and probably the marketplace after that
That was a really good bit at the end
I actually loved Action Duels, problem is they’re impossible to implement IRL.
Wait so that one meme about Blue Eyes Abyss dragon is theoretically possible with this type of duel?
Perhaps
I guess it depends on how the hologram renders the monsters
Like does it limit to what's visible on the card, can the models be "customized", or are they just real world accurate whatever that entails?
Hey! Hey!

this sounds just like Phantom Dust that free game on xbox's online store
More accurately, Action Duels are possible due to the Real Solid Vision technology. Kaiba actually invented Solid Vision. That is why the "holograms" have some varied physical effects in the various different series.
It's time to swing into action!
You forget the most important rule: If you're the protagonist you can destiny draw any action card you want
Aporia Vs jack atlas Luna and Leo. Is the perfect duel to analyse
I need this in a video game 😅
Just finished Arc-V yesterday glad to see the vid
That law bit at the end was the best.
This was Definitely a Good Night laugh.
