The pump was already there. The pump was to remove the build up of water within the golf course, what is thought is lack of maintenance with the water pipes under the track. The over pumping is quite common within the rail industry.
train was at 30mph and slowing down for the station ,the line is speed restricted due to the area being boggy and quicksand the crossing is a farm/ railway access crossing ,not a public one ,the area is prone to flooding hence the pumps, pipes etc etc.

Also, for a long time water had been pumped from the golf course, via pipes, under the tracks before this sink hole appeared, and contrary to what you may think, this is quite standard practice where flooding occurs adjacent to the Railway. It's quite possible that these pipes under the track failed, spilling water under pressure and washing out fine material, causing the bigger material to slump. The repair involved excavating the hole down to good ground, then backfilling with slate hardcore, compacting and topping up with granite ballast to the underside of the sleepers. Three ducts have been placed deeper in the embankment and carry flexible pipes from the pump in the golf course, obviating further washing out.

The historic boundaries of Lancashire still exist and were never abolished in 1974 so Grange still sits in Lancashire. Only the administrative boundaries changed in 1974 it is now in the administrative boundaries of Westmorland and Furness Council .

Seems like you didn’t get to do any homework for this video. That’s Morecambe Bay, not the “ocean.” Yes, it is a beautiful place! If the railway didn’t go along the edge of the bay, how would trains get to Barrow? What makes you so sure there was no proper drainage before the accident. That line has been there for about 150 years or more. Correct me if I’m wrong but that building is the Grange hotel, I think? (Been a while).

Why is it crazy they pumping water over the line? Where is the water going to go while they repair the culvert? Numb head!
There is no cuvert thats why the water is pumped across the embankment.
I know there is no culvert as it collapsed under the train! The water is being pumped over until the culvert is repaired! 🙄
Culvert collased many years ago. They've been pumping through pipes over the embankment for years
