I looked it up online, and sure enough, certain food items and places purchased can charge tax on food. Takeout food is also taxed. Groceries are not, as long as it's food. Pet food is taxed. Non-edibles are taxed. But at the end of the year we don't file a state tax return. So yeah, there are state taxes here.

We have a lady in my online disability group out of state who has been living in her car because she can't find an apartment that will take her rent voucher...they all have massively long waiting lists. This has been going on for months. She wants a place to live but we have so many homeless now that there are just not any openings for her. And the city she lives in made it illegal to park and sleep anywhere so she has to keep moving her car to get a little rest. On top of that she's ill so much so that she's on social security disability but it isn't enough with the skyrocketing rents.
