I'm 45 year's old and have listened to music my whole life. I like everything from the blues to heavy metal, but you're the most awesome artist of my lifetime. Your music has helped me through some hard times. It's so amazing how you keep coming up with such quality music after all of these year's. Thanks for showing us your equipment.
Thanks so much Smitty, that's such a lovely compliment and very much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the studio tour too!
I'm 40yo, but согласен с тобой полностью.
Hi
Totally feel the same. My most favourite artist to. Could never ever get sick of your production ! Such a sound and humble fulla to.
You've made lots of great masterpieces bro🤝🏻
Really appreciate the kind words mate, it always helps keep the spirits up and in turn the music flowing!
This is absolutely amazing. I have loved your music for the last 10 years, thanks for taking us on your tour!!!

Thanks so much for checking it out, I know it's not the kind of content for everyone, but hopefully the producers and music nerds (like myself) enjoy it!
Such a pleasure to have you take the time and really get to the nitty gritty of your studio! It’s crazy to think that about 12 years ago when I found your music it was the all spark to my production influences. Thank you Matt. If you remember we had met in Miami back in 2014 and we talked about football, YNWA :)
Glad you enjoyed the video and that the music was inspiring for you! I think that would have been at the Bardot back in 2013, which was actually the first ever show I played in the States. Good times!
Sat here for years thinking… what’s going on .. this video dude 🤯 thanks for putting this level of passion into your work, it’s not lost on the sound in anyway, your setting new standards, full respect where it’s due my friend 🙏
Thanks for checking this out, the video took way too long to make, so I do genuinely appreciate anyone checking it out 😂
wow im so glad one can do music with no money using cracked VSTs and only one mouse cause its the IDEAS !
Yeah it doesn't matter at all what you use, it's about the ideas and authentically connecting with them when you're making the music! Thanks for checking out the video!
Awesome, love your output, all of it. I have it on my work / chill playlist, which is at least 70% of your tracks and I listen to it pretty much daily for the last few years. Seriosly impressive collection btw! All the best, thank you for putting out so much quality stuff for everyone to enjoy!
Thanks so much for the support Kris, I'm so glad the music is going down so well and featured so much on your playlist. Really do appreciate the kind words!
HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😳😱🤯 this is EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you liked it, I've swapped a few bits out since I made this, so should probably do an update at some point!
So this is where you make those magical tracks. :)
Yeah this is the one, I've moved a lot over the years, but hopefully can be in this space for a while to come!
@@phaeleh I have moved a lot myself, sometimes it takes making a new home few times over to find the right spot. But hey man thank you for the reply and the wonderful tracks over the years. My soul finds peace whenever I listen to your music.
@@StasiSLG I really appreciate that! Yeah I know what you mean, I had a few places for around 3 years in the early days, but some of them were for only 18 months or so, and I found it pretty hard to get consistent results in those situations. Luckily approaching 3 years in this place, so hoping I'll be here a while, as quite liking the setup, even if it's a little more cramped than it looks in the video!
Damn dude. Big fan
Always appreciated!
Having found your music around 13 years ago and growing up with it, seeing you describing how your studio grew over time really hit a nerve. It was kind of magical to see where all the tracks came from. Best wishes to you and keep up the great work!
Thanks so much! Yeah it's kinda crazy, I do associate certain synths with specific albums. To me the mono/poly, 101 and P6 are basically Illusion of the Tale, the CP and shallow water pedal I associate with Clarity, and the JV1080, Matrix and XT I used loads on Embers. The new album was basically just the P10 lol. But it noticeable the bond I have with specific things, just because of the association with the albums they're on!
Brilliant peek behind the curtain!
Good to see your fluffy pal at the end.
CatsAndDogsGetAlong
Nice one Rusty, glad you enjoyed it and hope you're well!
Man u got more synths than shirts😅 That overwelming studio is really fascinating to watch and you are really the guy that knows every single detail in how to make the exakt fine poilshed music. Now i understand how you tracks can be so incredible well done, wich makes the experience even more detailed when you are plugging in some studio headphones. You do really have a full knowledge how everything works, from the synths, to the programs and systems. Your studio is litteratur a full ecostystem where everything fits in and matters.
Really like your ambient and different organic constelation/electronic music Phaeleh. Big greetings from a 15 year old guy from Sweden☺️🇸🇪🇸🇪
Thanks for checking out the video Oskar, yeah there's definitely too many synths, I have been thinking of downscaling recently as it's got quite silly. Really do appreciate the kind words too, glad you're enjoying the tunes!
I appreciate this. I love music and love even more having an insight to those who possess such talent, gifts, knowledge and resources. 🎉
I'm glad some people have enjoyed this video, it's definitely not one for the wider audience, but I had fun making it. The studio is actually undergoing quite a big change hopefully later this year, so perhaps I'll do an update once it's all done!
Finally an artist that shows off his studio top to bottom. Nice one
Really glad you enjoyed it, think it was a little bit too in-depth for most people, but I'm glad it's gone down well your end!
@@phaeleh I really did enjoy it. Cheers.
Phaeleh mentioned boards of Canada fan of them too wild wild wild studio of diamonds an pearls😊❤
Glad you liked it!
Pretty amazing!
Thanks JC!
What a legend you are. Thanks for these extremely well produced videos!
Thanks so much for checking out the video Harry, I'm glad people are enjoying it, I definitely spent way too long on it!
Hey dude this was great ! What a set up !
I've been listening to you since the fallen light ep .. your music is timeless my friend it really has something special, goosebumps with so many tracks, thanks for the great music
Thanks so much for checking it out Murray, really appreciate people taking the time to watch it. Awesome to hear you're still listening after all these years as well, so thanks for the support!
Love your music!!! And thank you for bonus cat 🙏💕✌️
Always glad to hear, and yeah it's all about the bonus cat!
Thank you for that, Matt. It was fascinating. It would be good to see how the sound evolves from the start of a synth through the effects etc to the final mix.
Thanks Paul, glad you enjoyed it. I liked someones suggestion of just doing some smaller videos at some point with a single piece of gear and just showing I would typically use it in a track!
I think our keyboards and instruments are reminiscent of an authors old used typewriter. It's that nostalgic connection of how many stories we've told through them that's such a personal thing we get to experience as artists. Beautiful collection. :)
Yeah I definitely agree with that, there's just something more powerful about the tactile side of things, and what I might refer to as micro-performances when recording parts that I just couldn't do in the computer. Thanks for checking out the video!
one day in this massive studio would be a dream
I've just been rewiring it for ages, so I'm looking forward to dusting everything off and making some new sounds at some point!
@@phaeleh yes sure all the synthesizers just trigger a happy feeling
This is my wet dream. Thanks for sharing. I love your music.
It's a bit ridiculous at this stage, the worse thing is I've picked up a couple of bits since filming this lol. Definitely gonna have to sell some bits down the line though, I am completely out of space now!
@@phaeleh Ha! Well, props for living your dream.
I've been a fan for a long time now, never quite found another artist like you. I really appreciate the work you do and the love you so clearly put on it. Thank you!
Thanks so much, I really appreciate people taking the time to let me know about their connection to the music, it's probably the main reason I've managed to keep making music for so long!
@@phaeleh I was once at a school event and the girl managing the music around the event was playing a mix with your songs in it, I recognized it and went to talk to her about it and made a friend, I'm from a small country so it was actually really fun finding another person that knew about your music around here, just goes to show a bit of the impact you've made on people's lives 😁
@@phaeleh right there with him. Og listeners here. Such beauty's you have.
@@itsSilvuh That's so awesome, and shows what a small world it can really be sometimes!
@@chrispirone4400 Thanks so much Chris!
Your music is incredible. Love the video digging a bit deeper into the tech!
Thanks so much, glad you liked it!
Rare Insight.. thanks Matt!
Nice one, glad you enjoyed it!
Absolute legend. Your music has helped and entertained me a lot.
Thanks so much, that's always lovely to hear!
You're a rock star! Nice editing skills too!!
Thanks mate, glad you liked the slightly over the top editing style!
How come every time I see equipment like those it makes me want to sing and play all the music I know. I have lots of song hits new and old back in the days . It's good to make records at least when I'm gone it will left some music my own. My own voice hehe.. long life to all . I LIKE karioke .. And play guitars . I want studio like that.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
awesome studio 🎹
Thanks so much Nicolas, it's always changing and is a mess when not filming stuff, but I like the cosy vibes!
This is such a good well done video I really enjoyed watching!
Thanks mate, really appreciate that!
Wow, what an amazing set-up even more amazing is how you are able to integrate all the different instruments and effects. I love your music, you are an Einstein of rhythm and harmony so inspiring and unique. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for checking out the video William, it's much appreciated!
Great studio
Thanks for checking out the video. Glad you enjoyed it!
Legend
Nice one Tom!
You’re the man. This was awesome! Subscribed and look forward to watching more of your vids!
Thanks so much Sean, that's awesome to hear and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun making it, so I appreciate people taking the time to give it a watch. Nice one for the sub too!
@@phaeleh your music is insane. gonna check out more of your videos/music when i can.. I like how you just speak about how you like to use your stuff.
Also coming from a drummer, your grooves and two step type beats with your melodies are amazing. all your shit sounds so punchy and colourful.
@@boombap08 appreciate that Sean, thanks!
Honestly I don't know much about this stuff and didn't really understand most of what you said lol. But I really appreciate you taking the time to show us your setup I enjoyed watching. So thanks so much!! And have a great day.
Thanks for watching the video Johnny! I appreciate it's slightly more suited to music nerds like myself, but hopefully the music and pretty shots of the gear keep everyone mostly interested. Hope you're having a great day too!
Amazing and interesting! All those electronic devices make me feel just like being in a Boeing 747's cockpit!!! Ready to take off , destination : Wonderful music. (... yours!)🛫🎶🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Thanks for this great uploading and a friendly greeting from Italy 🇮🇹🙋🏻♀️❤️! Stay safe and keep on creating your masterpieces! ✌🏻✨
Thanks Amber, it's definitely got that spaceship vibe. Hopefully be making some new music soon!
@@phaeleh I'm looking forward to listen it!!! 👍🏻👍🏻🙋🏻♀️‼️❤️🎶❤️
@@amberalexandrabayleycooke212 It's definitely early days as the last album took quite a lot out of me, but I'm hoping in the next month to slowly dust off the musical part of my brain and see what sort of direction I can go in. Will probably post some teasers on my patreon at some point, but imagine it'll be a good few months before I'm ready to do so!
Soo this is how you produce so much detail in your tunes...haha such a cool studio though
Thanks so much! Yeah I tend to go a bit deep in layering the sounds (most of which most people won't ever notice), but I do like to get a lot of different kit involved across all the tracks, so it all gets used in some capacity!
@@phaeleh Haha i could tell....I fully appreciate all the layers of sound. Its honesty astonishing how much emotion you can feel from your work. Cheers from across the pond.
@@chris-zd9sr Nice one, I really do like knowing that people can connect to the music emotionally, as that's always been the most important thing to me!
Your albums need more bonus cat! Also amazing collection. Just remembering where everything is is quite the accomplishment alone. I only have a drum machine and keyboard/controller and i forget how to do things from time to time lol.
I think everything needs more bonus cat! I know what you mean though, whilst most of this stuff I can pick up and play, there are definitely certain bits which leave me scratching my head a lot if I've not used them in a while!
Impressive. This was excellent. Now about your equipment for live shows 👍🏼
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I never did anything for the bigger guitar setups, but this covers the last setup that was more than just a laptop: ua-cam.com/video/8yxPN5XNt-I/v-deo.html
what an amazing setup, i didn't expect you to have so many pedals. I'm surprised you haven't been using the neunaber stereo wet
Thanks for checking out the video, I'm glad you liked it. I do sometimes use the Stereo Wet with guitar, but tend to prefer using sends, and there's no proper 'dry kill' with the original version without running it in mono, so I tend to lean into the other pedals that work better with the mixer setup, if that makes sense? I did grab the software version of the Stereo Wet, so I should do a little A/B comparison to see if that would work a bit better for my setup!
I've been listening and following you for a while, good to see where it's all coming from buddy - a long way from the drum machine we used to mess with back in 96-97!
Edit: and you still have the PRS, I was so happy to see that!
Hey buddy, how you doing? Yeah the Dr. Rhythm I believe it was, this little badboy: www.boss.info/uk/products/dr-5/ Pretty sure I've still got some old tapes somewhere of Nirvana covers we did with it. The PRS isn't going anywhere, weirdly it picked up more dents/scratches in the first couple of months than it has in all the years since then! Hope you're well! :)
That's the bad boy, could never replace Courthold though!! If you find the tapes I'm in, what a trip that would be.
@@chriskeegan1695 I'm sure there's a VHS somewhere of some rehearsal too, think most of it is in storage somewhere, but I will have to have a proper look for it when I get a chance! It certainly was a motley crew that's for sure, and some bloody good times!
@@phaeleh Amazing times, especially looking back. I still have tinitus from your PA (literally), ping me if you find those tapes!!
Great video!
Thanks for checking it out!
Thank you for making this video. The quality of presentation is on par with your music, which is saying something.
Loved the detail you go into regarding functionality and especially the work flow of your tools.
Stoked to hear those tracks stuck on windows 7!
Thanks so Kirill, that's genuinely more appreciated than you'll realise. I spent WAY longer on this video than I planned to, but I'm glad people have been enjoying it. I'll be dusting off a lot of these tunes on the Windows 7 machine for my Patreon, but expect quite a few will get a proper release later down the line. Thanks for checking it out!
Man I’m so excited to watch this
Hope you like it Kayleen, I probably spent a little too long putting the video together but hopefully answers a few questions about what's being used in the studio!
So cool. Thanks for sharing!! Love your tunes Phaeleh!!
Thanks for checking out the video, appreciate the support!
Thank you Phaeleh! I would love to see a video on how you programmed the drums on Afterglow. Great video! Subbed!
Nice one Paul, I'm glad you liked the video. I didn't really go into too much detail, but I do briefly mention the Afterglow beats here: ua-cam.com/video/5W1Y4n7F22E/v-deo.html

Flippin love this. You have a tech following, Brother, I'm betting an episode of you tinkering with each of these synths or FX getting interesting sounds out of each would garner some enthusiasm and it's always fun to watch a UA-cam vid on a piece of equipment and then go listen to that equipment in play on an LP. Thoughoughly enjoying your stepped up social media presence bro. You've been a huge influence.
Yeah I'd definitely be down to doing some shorter videos just playing around with a single bit of kit! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch the video, much appreciated!
Riddem😂❤️
If you ever need some Studio Upgrades Give us a call. The Studio People Powys UK. Thanks for the Tour. You do have some toys there. Only way to make great music, which you do...
Thanks, it's a bit of a shoebox at the current location, but would love to have a proper space put together down the line. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together and explain how you use them. So nice to see someone else using dmg audio trackcomp. What do you think of their 2500 emu vs your real one?
No worries, thanks for checking out the video. To be honest, I don't think I've ever actually done a direct comparison between them. I do really like the DMG compressor, but never thought to compare them. I do have the UAD 2500 comp which I compared, which I think does a fairly decent job, I only really use it for parallel compression as it has a blend control, and my 2500 is one of the original ones so it doesn't have the mix control the + version has. Next time I'm in cubase I'll have a look at the DMG comp and see what I think, I imagine it'll do a decent job though as it's a great sounding bit of software!
Wow, that is an incredible setup and those guitars are so beautiful . Is your studio at home or completely different space? How do you decide what to use, when making a song? Does having so many instruments, make it harder to decide? Do you plan on buying much more music equipment? Or are you good? You must have spent a fortune on all that stuff and you must be so happy with what you’ve accumulated. I bet it’s must be really hard to learn to use all that stuff. Since I got decks, years ago, I was always interested in making my own tunes but after watching a friend make a tune , I was just absolutely baffled at the 1000,s of settings, effects etc. Learning how it all works, seemed impossible but I kinda wish I at least gave it a try. Anyway mate, really great video. I much enjoyed.
Thanks for checking out the video Graham! Glad you enjoyed the guitars especially. The studio is in my home, in a very damp and very cold basement. It's very rare that everything is powered up at the same time, and I generally will be drawn to one synth at a time, which I play with and make some initial ideas. Later down the line when I need more ideas I'll generally know what would work well and most tracks only really use 3 or 4 synths tops anyway. Then on the next tune I'm working on I'll try to avoid using the same synths again.
At the moment there literally isn't any room for any more equipment, so if I did decide I 'needed' something, I'd have to sell some stuff to make room for it. There are a couple of synths I'm not really using as much as I'd hoped, so might just get rid of a few bits anyway, but the bulk of it I plan to keep. I definitely spent a fair amount on all of it over the years, but if you spread it out over the time I've been collecting it, it works out about the same as what most people spend on petrol each month getting to and from work, so not too bad in the grand scheme of things.
Making music can be as complicated or as simple as you like really, I'd definitely recommend giving it a go. You only really pick up things and learn with the more you try, so even just grabbing a demo of ableton or fruityloops and sketching out some loops could get you back into a bit more, and there's so many great tutorials on UA-cam these days, you certainly can get some pointers!
Lovely video with terrific editing! A couple questions if you have time:
About what percentage of the time would you say you play the keys with your hands vs sending MIDI to them and recording the auto-played output?
I'm also curious how you clean the synths, do you wipe them down, air-dry them, or both? Does it take a long time?
I'll have to check out your other videos because I already love your music (have for many years) and you have a soothing voice, haha.
Thanks for checking it out! I didn't really go too deep into my way of working, but with regards to midi it really depends on what sort of sound it is. For pads or more atmospherics, I'll normally just play it in live. For more precise things like riffs or bass, I'll typically record it playing live, but also record the midi too (where possible), and then go back in and slightly tweak any notes or controller movements which aren't quite right, then re-record it, if that makes sense? It means I can choose between, or even blend between more organic sounds, and a more previse version which is running through the same fx chains.
I'll be honest, I don't clean the synths or anything too often, but for this video I did a bit of research and found this to be the best thing for getting into the small areas without causing any static buildup: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07H4L3YVB/ works surprisingly well!
@@phaeleh that does make sense, thank you for your thoughtful answer. Interesting idea about brushes for synths, I will look into that as I increase my collection too. Hope you have a pleasant rest of your week!
@@treehann Thanks! I totally forgot to mention that the reason I don't clean the synths too often is because most of them have synth covers on, so they don't really get too dusty!
What's the different to fly airplane and to operate all that sir? I think almost same. It's kinda complicated it's confusing. Sing sing sing ..
