    I am not used to comment, you are only the second comment I post under a video. But I wanted to thank you for your music.
    I have no word to described how amazing it is to my hears, but I can only describe it as if music were an adventure, yours is the one which makes me travel further, through a multitude of unknown and fantastic lands I only dreamed of.
    It may seem a bit “poetic”, but that’s my attempt to explain to you what your music does to my hears, my soul, and to hearten you in what you do. You are not only talented, but you are truly gifted.
    And, seeing you explaining how you create fascinates me. You see the colours in music and your canvas are master pieces.
    Thank you very much for sharing with us.
    I wish you all the best.
    An admirer from Switzerland (I hope my english is good enough)

    Holy crap. I’m only a few mins into the video and I’m blown away. You play the guitar, beautifully. I’m buying your discography and I can’t wait until the new Album drops, in January. I think this was the first song I heard from upcoming album and I was so impressed . I bought all your early stuff, stopped buying vinyl and music in general, around 2014 and just recently checked you out and I’m so happy that I’ve found so much of your music, that I missed. Bought few albums from your Bandcamp Store and they are all incredible. Embers ,Lost Time on Vinyl and a beautiful ambience Album on cd , Tracks I’m loving so much, are
    Feel you fade
    Together
    The Mist
    Last goodbye
    And Blue Night is incredible on the ambience album.
    These tracks and many more, just blow me away and I’m so at ease, when listening to your music. I’m so proud and honoured to say that I actually own every cd and vinyl that you’ve ever released. After I buy discography, I’ll own all your music. Well, almost. I just noticed that I’ve missed 1 Album from you and I’m actually quite gutted. It released around the time I stopped buying music and is Titled A World Without. A few really nice tracks on there. I absolutely LOVE the track Alignment it’s simply incredible and I really really liked Title track A World Without and so real. Is there any chance of a Vinyl Repress? Or am I just dreaming?
    I remember you saying, recently that you don’t really press Vinyl these days, because your fan base isn’t so big, anymore and that really got to me. Set aside my need for Vinyl, you are just so talented and deserve to be selling shitloads of Vinyl. You may have not so many listeners but we are here and will continue to support you, as long as you’re still making music.

      Wow, thanks so much for the kind and lovely words! Always really appreciate the support from the listeners, especially after so many years.
      Sorry to hear you're missing a copy of A World Without, I'll have to have a look and see if there are any hiding anywhere, though I do think someone else asked this a while back and I couldn't find any. Alignment is definitely my favourite track on that release, so I'm glad you're liking that one!
      There's not really any chance of represses of any of the older releases, especially as they'd have to be mastered again as I don't have the metalwork to just make them again, and that's presuming I can find the unmastered final mixes of them (I do have most of them, but some have gone awol).
      My fanbase is still really solid tbf, it's just they're very digital based. Back around the time of Fallen Light/The Cold in You, I was still very much associated with dubstep, which was super popular and sold lots on vinyl. Since that bubble burst my vinyl sales plummeted. At the same time, the general fanbase grew, but essentially they're all streamers or bandcamp users. So they're still there, just not buying vinyl. The last 2 releases on vinyl (2017 and 2020) still haven't broken even, so it's actually factually accurate to say I made more money on Spotify in the last hour than I have on physical releases in the last 5+ years combined.
      I do love having a physical release, they always do better digitally too and are far easier to promote, but it's hard to justify when the cost of making those last 2 records works out more expensive than the most expensive bit of kit in my studio.
      If anything changes I would love to start doing vinyl again, but at the moment it just feels a bit too irresponsible, especially as I'm not really playing regular shows anymore either. So I'd rather play it safe and be able to keep making music for a few more years rather than doing everything on vinyl, and then finding myself needing to get a different job to pay the bills.
      I do really appreciate the interest in it, and hope you can still enjoy the sounds digitally!

    Would you ever do an instrumental only version of songs that have lyrics? Great stuff!!

    • @phaeleh
      @phaeleh  Рік тому

      I do occasionally get asked from time to time. The main issue I have is I never got the tracks mastered as an instrumental versions at the time the original versions, so I'd have to try and get old projects working and get them all mastered again. I'm not against the idea to be honest, just isn't something I've considered too much. Will give it some thought and see how viable it is!

    Matt, I may have missed it, but how were the vocals actually recorded? In person or did you send the track electronically for Devin to to sing over and send back to you?

    • @phaeleh
      @phaeleh  Рік тому +1

      Whilst I used to record a lot of vocals myself, these days they're mostly recorded by the singers. My setup isn't great for microphones during the day due to being next to a busy road, but in the case of Devin (and a lot of the other singers I've worked with recently), she's based in the States so just easier to work digitally. I don't know how it was recorded, but sounded like a large diaphragm condenser from what I remember when working on it!

    • @spleencheesemonkey
      @spleencheesemonkey Рік тому +1

      @@phaeleh Thanks for the reply. And if you don't mind me asking, how do the collaborations come about? Do you reach out or do they come to you? Or both I presume?

    • @phaeleh
      @phaeleh  Рік тому +1

      These days it's mostly people approaching me, but I actually found Devin on Fiverr randomly. It's normally down to random timing, someone hitting me up as I'm thinking 'hmm this tune could work with vocals'.
