The Friedman is one of the few amps I have tried which sounds really good on the High gain channel, at low volume! Sounded really great with the Strat. And I love my Shanks OD. I got it half price, second hand, because its sooo expensive new!
Man, you have an incredible feel, your licks and tone are unique. It shows a lot of experience, and you're sharp like a katana. Congrats, all the best to you :)
Really nice tone. You make it sound like it should, almost as good as your fridge. I have a BE50 in the collection but it feels stiff and non spongy to me. Dave was going to build a custom amp for me but then the fire happened so instead I picked up a Wonderland Overdrive V2 which I love. I put Lindy Fralin's in my main Strat (Blues Specials) and it sounds great.
I have an IR-X preamp. Supposed to be the BE100's preamp, but the other channel is supposed to be a Plexi-ish clean to crunch sound. It does not really sound like my Plexi clone, but it did sound quite YJM when I slammed it with a DOD 250. That cleaner channel does like pedals for sure. The BE channel likes a tube screamer or my Warm Audio klone boosting it. I have the Warm Bender too, which I think will work well into the cleaner channel with a Echoplex style delay pedal. I have not got around to trying it yet, but think it would get early Jimmy Page tones. The BE channel is not as much gain as I thought it would be. It still needs to be boosted to get 5150 levels of gain, but it does it without all that 5150 fizz. It is a tight sounding preamp. The BE100 power section's depth mod is emulated with the IR-X, but is pretty good. The other way he gets a tight sound is using lots of high pass filtering in the preamp, e.g., 0.0022uf instead of 0.022uF for the first coupler. That gets rid of the low end flub, but there is a price to pay. It can thin out the high notes. Sometimes I prefer the fat switch for playing leads due to that - unless I thicken the tone by saturating the gain stages (lose dynamics that way, but it works for some stuff -- the IR-X is still very dynamic even with the BE channel gain maxed out, but will compress and saturate when boosted). P.S. I recently bought a Marshall MF280B 4x12. A bottom cab with a type of V30. Sounds great with my regular 1960A cab sitting on top. Last weekend I turned the Plexi clone to 10 and got my nephew to play AC/DC riffs while I dialed it all in. So awesome running a full stack. That oddball Mode Four cab is great. We were both grinning ear to ear. Eddie Van Halen said 'volume is tone'. He was not wrong. The amp does stuff that just does not happen when playing quieter. The notes get lots of weight to them and are just bigger, i.e., not thin etc. We can't crank it often though. The noise police would knock on the door.
Great Gots l knew Doc play the guitar wondering all these yrs where Marty McFly's pik up his guitar chop,,Thruxcupassider Peddle for overdrive alright alright alright alright alright
Very inspiring compact playing. Brilliance...
