    Actually, apart from the food car, there are many food vendors on the Southern Line trains, especially for the breakfast. But they're usually selling around the 2nd and 3rd class cabins. So, you might have to walk a little bit to get the food.
    For anyone who are going to travel by Thai train, I would recommend you to prepare some food and drink (and also an additional blanket for air-con cabin) which would better comfort you during the night. Btw, I would highly recommend you to also try the local food being sold by food vendors who come up and down at each station. Thier foods greatly represent various taste and local wisdom of Thai people in different area where the train passes.
    For us, the Southerners, we have the list of the "must-buy" foods along the way down from Bangkok to our hometown in the South.
    Here are some examples:
    - Nakorn Pathom station : Salted Pork with Sticky Rice (ข้าวเหนียวหมูเค็ม)
    - Ratchaburi station : the famous Ratchaburi Noodles (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวราชบุรี) (It's packaged in a small box which costs 10 bahts per 1 box, so I always buy around 3 - 4 boxes each time lol)
    - Petchaburi station : Thai Mung Bean Custard Cake (ขนมหม้อแกง) and various kind of desserts
    - Chumporn station : warm and soft Fish maw soup (กระเพาะปลา)
    - Thung Song Junction : deep-fried doughstick (Patonggo) and coconut ice cream
    If you have chance to travel by train again, let's try and you'll love it :)
    Ps. Wishing you a safe and wonderful journey in Thailand and for all destinations ahead. I love your channel so much krab

      Wow, this is so, so helpful! We did hear some vendors come through to sell one or two items, but we weren't fast enough to catch them :) we love this list and hope to visit each of these stations to try the must buy foods!!
      Thank you so much! Khob khun ka!!

    36 bucks a person is absolutely amazing... I tried finding tickets on Amtrak to go from Houston to Chicago, and one way was about 400-500 bucks which is absurd! Also that sunrise looked beautiful from the train. I've always wanted to do this! But i'm sure the sounds get annoying LOL.

    So fun to watch this after watching OnePack's video in the cheap(er) seats! We would totally splurge the extra $8 each for the sleeper compartments, too. Why is it so hard to sleep on trains?! Loved Lisa's recounting of the sounds. 😂😂

    commenting for internet robots. For light sleepers, I find some medicine (pick benzos, melatonin, valerian root, etc) helps sleep on overnight train rides. I love the usage of points for foreign hotels - they're some bargains out there!

      are we the internet robots? i hope not. it would be a total bummer to find out that i'm a robot. well, maybe not, that could be cool. being a cyborg wouldn't be all that bad.
      there are definitely some great bargains out here for points, especially right now!

    That first class cabin seems great! What was the difference between it and the 2nd (AC?)

    • @PakM3388
      @PakM3388 2 роки тому

      The 2nd class is a shared upper/ lower convertable seat-to-bed car. (Fan or A/C option)

    • @LisaAndJosh
      @LisaAndJosh  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, this!! Mostly that the cabin is private and the 2nd class car has shared bunks (more like a hostel style accommodation).

    Thai Train system(government one) is one of the most corrupt department here. Had it not been that you would have slept on a much better train, and faster too.

    • @LisaAndJosh
      @LisaAndJosh  2 роки тому

      interesting! what do you think makes it so bad? we know nothing about that - just that our train experience was fine, if a bit outdated!
