- If you want to see tough, honest, snow wheeling where you have to fight for every inch while trying to keep Sub Zero temperatures from wrecking all your gear... this is the video. The truck camping was cold... but it helped me find a new hero piece of gear.

What gear would you have taken? Also... Every video has a spelling error... Did you find it?
Yankee rope. I appreciated your experiment with chains. Nate has said in videos he doesn't like chains (I'm assuming from experience) but I liked your take on them.
I would have taken an Outdoor Auto T-shirt or Hoodie .... if they were available 'hint, hint"
@@obrianmcc I am working on some really cool shirts and sweatshirts… but it turns out it is really complicated to get good clothing and printing… most of these drop ship companies, the logos come off after like 3 washes and the clothes are crap… trying to get some quality Merch.
If you're willing to process and fulfill your orders Garrod down at Idaho Screen Print (Garden city) is a solid dude ... @@OutdoorAuto
Spent 3 hours today shoveling snow from our snowstorm in SW Idaho over the weekend. Just watched Nates video...lemme grab some snacks and binge this one too!
It was a FUN trip... mine is more focused on the gear you take on a trip like this to be prepared and safe...
Good to see someone else getting punished by the cold and snow. Lost the battle yesterday when full size loader tractor got pulled in the ditch and stuck. 40mph winds and -35 wind chill turned me into a bombpop in no time. Learned I need some snow goggles as my eyelashes froze together. Always learning.
Ooh … goggles is a good idea 👍
Thanks for sharing from south Texas . I would have found out the hard way 🤦🏼♂️🤣
Nice video. I liked the format showing the gear and vehicle prep along with the adventure. I can relate to that for when I am packing for big video production jobs in the desert or the mountains. Since I have so much gear between off road recovery, tools, camping, food, cameras, drones, lenses, batteries etc, I have a list on the notes app on my iphone. One for solo camping, one for small crew in my Bronco, and a separate list for when I bring the Sprinter van out. Been there too many times where I forgot some critical gear (or food)! lol
I’m going to get my lists built out and share them… definitely could help me and maybe others.
Hello from Canada.
Just saw Nate's rendering 😅
Gaiters also at my place, low investment for awesome performance.
Only other piece of gear I pack, is a flatpack, light and compact wood or charcoal stove, in case the propane gives me issues.
Gaiters are the best... they make mediocre boots awesome.
Awesome video, love the format. As someone who lives and drives in rural northern Canada I couldn’t agree more with your recommendations. Well done.
Excellent work, Nate. An informative and interesting video.
Thanks 🙏 it was a fun a trip.
I just don’t get joy of snow wheeling? That just sounds like misery. Glad to hear you guys made it out safe and sound don’t have a $10k recovery bill
As a father of 2, and one is 3 yo i understand you 😂. Thank you for taking the time to do what you do.
So excited to start watching this video! It looks really good and I can't wait to learn more. Thanks for sharing! 👍"
Hmm, why wouldn't you put the chains on the fronts? You're running hubs locked anyway, right? Feel they wouldn't dig in then? 🤔Not sure
Hey man, my name’s Jake, absolutely love your videos! Informative, objective, concise, and very humble presentation … you’re out there doin it! I’m in the process of kitting out my 2020 Toyota tundra. Have watched all your videos. Great source of info as I’ve considered what I want to do. Was wondering if there’s a way to get in touch more directly? Would like to set up my rig very much like your grey tundra. Would be great to be able to float some questions by you to along the lines of: wheel/tires, suspension/lift, rock sliders, bumpers, and roof top tents. Ready to invest the money in the gear, just wanna donut once and make sure it’s the right gear!
You should hope on our discord... we talk builds on there. link is in the video descriptions.
Enjoying the channel, hope it continues to grow, keep up the good work
I would have like to see you have chains for all 4 on your rig. In cold weather snow wheeling in N. Wyoming sometimes chains is all that works, but it takes having them on all 4 corners. With enough tire speed they will act like paddles or you can crawl and try to keep from breaking them loose. The worst snow I encounter is where the wind has drifted it. It usually will have a hard crust and then is like sugar below, it simply will not pack at all and it can be a royal pain. Great video, I have been chomping at the bit wanting to take my TJ out to play in the snow, but we really haven't had much to speak of. We got a little snow a couple of days ago, but -33 Saturday morning is good to stay by the fire. We have a few more days in the -20 range, so the snow wheeling will have to wait a little longer.
-33 is brutal… I actually have two sets of chains… I’ll definitely be experimenting on his winter.
I can come over and help you install the lights and radio if you want 😊 work is slow with all this snow haha another great video my friend!
I’d love to go to a trail like that one day.
It was fun but you definitely want the right gear or it could be a bad couple days.
Excellent, great info, thank you.
Thanks for watching, I hope it was helpful.
@OutdoorAuto it really was. I love the details.
I have a feeling someone went through cold weather training in Bridgeport.
Awesome content sir. Loving ur vids 🤙 Safe wheeling ....
Thanks for watching… I’m going to keep pushing to get better..
I just bought a 97 lx450. I'm more curious about what you thought about your new truck? What it did well, what it didn't do well, and why?
Keep up the great content! 👌
Chains are for icy road or thin layer of snow only. Deep deep snow they are useless.
Kind of… it really isn’t about depth… it is more about hardness, snow crust, and how packable the snow is… all of those things can occur at any depth.
Two things first , dude no one uses toilet paper anymore 😂 “Baby Wipes” esp when ya cant take a shower , keep you clean and fresh. Second , that is a awesome 80 series , so please i beg you to help “OCD” and give it the care it deserves and get the dents Nate put in it fixed. Its a shame to see such a nice 80 series with all those dents ..fix it once your not gonna do that kind of rock crawling anymore so it will stay nice , and will get lots of compliments of how nice it is.. thanks for helping my OCD mental disorder😂😂😂 oh and they are called “kinetic ropes” not dynamic , just sayin👍
Good reminder that in the super cold things start to freeze ... we were up the Middle Frk this weekend and I developed a "Service Stability Control" on my Gladiator. It cleared out on the way home so I'm guessing I got some moisture down in the pick up wheel that froze, but something so simple can all of a sudden change the dynamic of how your equipment work. When did you guys record this? ... I thought those were groomed trails in the Winter for the Park-n-Ski's? .... I also commented over on "the other Nates" channel that I'm curious about these snow socks?
We actually had to work pretty hard to avoid the groomed trails… not every trail is a groomed trail but they sure make it hard to get to the ones that aren’t
I get that 100% .... we got the finger shake last year, but the BLM gave us the Green light after some inquiry .... hope to see that new rig of yours out and about!@@OutdoorAuto
So, curios have the Baja Boss's surpassed the WildPeak WWW3 for snow performance?
What's the word on the WildPeak WWW 4's?
I hear there coming soon!!!
Those Combo Lights look good. The brand provide you a discount code?
Let me see if I can get you one….
Well… that worked fast… they just sent me a code, apparently it is “Outdoor Auto” for 20% off
@@OutdoorAuto Awesome, Thanks for helping out. I gonna grab a set
How do you plan and budget fuel consumption when you have to keep plowing and backing up and plowing?
Great question… basically you can do is have every vehicle bring a spare 5 gallons… all of us have been in much deeper snow before… but this snow had 0 traction… it was the most challenging snow all of us had ever delt with… so very hard to game plan for that… just make sure you maintain reserves to get out and know when to call it quits
Overall how do you like the baja at tires? For an everyday set?
How are you liking the Pecron battery?
I would say it is incredibly mediocre 🤷♂️
Love your 80! Any reason for downsizing to 37s?
Just working out some kinks where things rubbed… it will be back on bigger tires soon.
@@OutdoorAuto cool, its crazy how much smaller 37s look with all that fender clearance. I’m jealous anyway I’m only running 35s on my 80
Nates on ko2s right?! How did the baja boss compare?
Yes, he is in K02s… that trip was a tough comparison… ultimately it was his extra clearance that won the day… he had IFS and 13.5 inch wide 39’s… I was in a solid axle 12.5 inch wide 37’s… everyone but Nate was basically getting hung up on our axles
@@OutdoorAuto IFS has that advantage. I'm running the baja boss and thinking about running then on a snow wheeler...
@@Kovacreation I have really liked my mickeys so far. They are are pretty impressive in the snow considering how aggressive they are.
a $1000 propane heater?!?!?!?!
They are made for a Sailboat… definitely overkill for a car… but I have one from my little house… so might as well use it. 🤷♂️
