A very good tutorial about how to use fineline crackle varnish, you mentioned that at first you didn't get the cracks, please allow me to tell you a few tricks. When you apply first step it should be at least 1.5mm thick, the thicker it is the more visible cracks you'll have, an very important thing is that if you will let first component to dry for more than 2 -3 hours it is a very good probability that the cracks won't show up anymore. As you said, as soon the object you are decorating it's going to regain the transparency you can start applying the second step, the best test is that when you cros your fingers gently on the surface and it's squeaks it is raedy. And yes I said to run your fingers gently on the surface, but only after is transparent. Another important thing is that when you apply the second component you HAVE to spread it evenly usig circular motion with your FINGER, don't worry, doing so you will only help the second component to get fixated properly on the surface, and the cracks will be more visible, also if you use a hairdryer set up on a high temperature it will help cracks to show up quickly. I used for my work an antique paste from Pentart simply applying a very small quantity on top of my finger using with circular motion on the surface, after that I use an cloth to wipe the excess off. I'm glad that you have mentioned about solvent based varnish, because if you will use an water based varnish it will ruin your work as soon as you start to apply it on the surface. Also it is recommended to finish ( apply varnish ) only after 24h. Yvette, thank you for your sharing.

Very good information and as you said, it is very temperamental. I live in Panama in an area with a lot of moisture. Here is what I found. I apply component 1 and let it dry overnight. I use a water based wax from Dixie Belle to fill in the cracks. I then apply component 2 and bow dry. This is how I get the best cracks in my area.
@@lora.9208I watched a video by Pentart about the Fine Line Crackle Varnish and the subtitles said that you don't have to varnish the normal 2 Part Crackle Varnish, but you DO have to varnish over the top of the 2 Part Fine Line Crackle Varnish because it doesn't have a built-in top coat. So, just to preserve and protect your artwork, it's probably best to varnish over the top. Oh, and don't forget to use a solvent based varnish, like the one that's made by Pentart. That's what I use and it's great. Love from Amanda in Australia.

I am appreciative of your video and love the finer “cracks”. The finished product is very pretty. I did want to ask how you made the border on your plaque, it adds an interesting effect to it and I’d like to try it myself. I’ve never tried the gold pigment but it’s on my list to try. That was so interesting, Yvette! Hmm, I might need to make an order of that plaque-I love it! I love those clock ornaments, if that is what you call them(?). How thick are they compared to the plaque or the hearts? Hopefully once spring comes I will order some more of your lovely creations. Well done on your video.

I’m glad you enjoyed it! ❤️ I thought you might like this plaque you like them birds 😄 they are click ornaments yes, I think I might have to put them on my tree next Christmas if no one buys them by then! 😬 they’re made on a 3mm base but the mouldings make the raised parts. Closer to about 1cm ☺️ well there’s no rush for you, I’m not planning on stopping any time soon and you know that I’ll be more than happy to make some custom pieces for you 🌸
A " P.S." I also use an iron trivet on the hot tray to keep baby food jars warm and ready as needed. The plaque could rest on top of a trivet overnight with heat going on and off by thermostat.
Does this work the same for "classic" crackle varnish?

And then... the cracks didn't show up :( ...but the hairdryer trick worked and they are sooooo beautiful

I have that exact same tin as the one behind you.
The piece looks good, although I do think the finer cracks would be more evident, on camera at least, if you had used a darker brown paint, or an antiquing gel, or something. I also think the video thumbnail was also very misleading, because the project you showed in the video thumbnail wasn't the project you showed in the video. I actually wanted to see you make the project that was in the video thumbnail. However, you did give some good suggestions in the video about what to do if your crackle varnish doesn't crackle as it's drying, so that was probably really helpful to anyone's who's had that happen.

About the need for heat. Would a counter top electric warmer work? On ebay are many with heat adjustable knob. I have one that has a thermostat that turns heat on and off to avoid overheating. Meant to keep coffee/tea pot nice and toasty all day.
I would be worried about it damaging the wood to be honest, might be worth a try if you already have one of these :)
Looks great! Have you tried a heat gun / heat embossing tool? I use one for my distressed wood effect x
You know, I'm sure I tried my heat gun on it once and it started to melt, I'm almost positive that it happened, I cant remember what project it was on, it was before christmas so I was super busy and everything is a blur :D:D:D:D
@@IvetaZiedina I have an embossing one, which has 2 settings on it and I tend to use the low setting for paint finishes and the higher setting for resin. It's easily done - buring things, been there and done that! :) x

Oooo that's a good question! I can't find any information online but I think it should be fine as long as you apply it on to your clay after it's been baked so kind of as a finishing step

Hmmm...I just ordered some and then saw this. I know you said pastel doesnt work, but have you tried anything else that does work. I do t have any special pigments. I have some of the black wax you use and some micas. Also lots of other inks and things. Any ideas?

I just purchased mine off etsy. But still have not managed to get any crackles. Very disappointed in it. Other crackle mediums work with much less hassle.

Hello,I'm not sure which coaster you're referring to but I usually just use acrylic or chalk paint and a sponge dauber for all of my edges (there are a few videos on my channel where I show how to do that specifically the one where I show how I make all of my coasters )

Why all the fancy crackle products , glue, texture, paint
I wanted to love this stuff, as it's the only fineline crackle medium I could find. But I have ruined several projects because after putting waxing paste on it wont come off the project unless you rub it hard. Was so disappointed in this stuff.
