You're really doing a good job of keeping that excess weight off. (referencing your video or two from a few years ago) I stay slim at 53 by eating one meal per day, and exercising. And I take vitamins and supplements.
Love your new pistol. Being here in Canada, where new handgun purchases have been banned, I have to live vicariously through people like you. Thank you for sharing.
The Slim was my first guess when you teased it but I had doubts since the full size trigger usually gets held in higher regard. Nonetheless great choice, sometimes I wonder if I went back in time before my current collection and wonder if I could've convinced myself to replace all my would be choices with IWI products entirely. Somehow I would be broke either way 😂
I agree about the need for a proper grip size. I recently acquired a Springfield EMP and a Kimber Compact CDP II. Both have frames that are slightly longer than many typical compacts. This provides just enough purchase for my pinky, so I don't need magazine extensions. Combined with their slim single-stack profile, this makes them more comfortable to hold and control between shots. Both pistols also sport 4" barrels and matching slides, which aids sighting and gives them a more proportional look.
Great choice! This is also my carry gun. I don’t like the mag included in the grip length which left me with this, the g43x, or the 365xl. I have already sold a 365xl and I don’t mesh well with glocks grip angle. That and accepting cz75 mags sealed it for me.
Good morning HR. Glad to see that you got the little brother of your Masada. I really like mine and have enough confidence to carry it now. I have the Performance Center Shield Plus with a 4" ported barrel with fiber optic sights. I would guess it may come out on top comparing it against the Hellcat or Masada Slim. One big downside is that the front of the optic lens gets clouded up with carbon after 3 shots so I removed the optic out of frustration. But even with just the fiber optic sights & its fantastic Trigger it is one accurate pistol.

@@orangejuice4332 I’ve got smaller hands and the grip is deeper from front to back on the S&W. After shooting a Sig P365 and holding the Hellcat, I like how these these grips feel in my hand. The Reflex and Slim have similar sized grips as Hellcat.
All are solid choices. IWI and CZ are great in quality. Can't argue with Ruger or Smith&Wesson either. Main thing is get one you like and train lights out with it
I’m slowly getting a better handle on that format. On my first attempt, I think I over did it. I think now it’s starting to flow a like more smoothly. Watch my next couple of videos. The whole concept is a work in progress.
@@hrfunk Love it ! Feels great in the hand and not that heavy at all. From what I understand they accept Glock magazines as well but are shipped with magpul magazines. They also fit most Glock 19 holsters. These 9mm pistols are much more controllable than our old Glock 21 45acp. The one I was carrying was a Gen 3 19 years old and way past replacement time. Our new sheriff is a law man and not a politician like our past sheriff’s were. He’s a good man and taking better care of us and our county.
I think more than recoil the actual shooting performance and/or accuracy comes down to the trigger, if you have a heavy trigger the chances of pulling a shot increase significantly specially at large distances, as far as snappiness i think that affects more rapid fire at long distances (20-50 yards). Aslo if you have not shot the Shield Plus I highly recommend it as for me it shoots as a full size compact gun like sig p320 or G19
Interesting selection HR. I like your choice. Obviously you can carry whatever you want and you have a lot of experience with a lot of brands. You are giving IWI a good endorsement. I'm sure it will serve you well.
I hope you review the Springfield SA 35. I want one but I'm waiting to hear more about it. Especially if someone does a side by side comparison with a 1911. I have a 1911 so it's a benchmark to go by.
GREAT VID and thank you devil dog. I like IWI products and intend on grabbing one of the tavor shotguns but I really can't justify buying the slim as I already have the G43X and the P365. If id do get another micro-tool it will be the FN RELFLEX with a red dot mount.
Happy (belated) Birthday! It certainly must be an outstanding choice: Just as you mentioned, you've had your fair share of the latest and greatest pistols, so it's no surprise you were able to find the best option for you. 👍👍
I have the full size Masada and it's been great for me. The only down-side is that even with the full size backstrap, I couldn't get a proper grip on it because I have pretty big hands. I recently attended a great two-day pistol course run by IWI here in PA and Tom, the instructor (Awesome guy, excellent instructor!) saw my difficulty with gripping the Masada properly and recommended I get a Hogue grip for it. I ended up getting the beavertail grip for the CZ P-10 C which fits pretty well (Sku: 17810). At the end of the course, we had the opportunity to try the Masada Slim and it was the first time I ever felt like I could actually shoot a small pistol well, hitting an 8-in plate repeatedly at about 25-30 yds with iron sights. I honestly don't know what it is about the Slim that makes it that comfortable to shoot well, but it is. The only downside to the Masada line is that, like you said, they are designed to be good tools, not flashy ones and because of that, it's more of a cerebral reward to own one than a status reward when you're at the range and other guys check out what you have. Getting the rounds downrange accurately and consistently is the real reward, though. I'll be getting a Slim at some point, but there are other items at the top of my to-buy list at the moment ;).
@@hrfunk That's true... I plan on getting a rifle first, though. I don't own one and feel like I really need to add one and work on developing my skillset with it first.
Just discovered your channel. Good presentation. I’m seriously considering one of these. I also have CZ P-01 mags. I was going to get the P-01 slide cut for an optic but now I’m thinking it would be more efficient and better use of funds to get one of these … mainly because of testimonials like yours concerning the trigger. I guess I could a trigger for the CZ that doesn’t have a 3/4” reset, but by the time I got that done I could have bought one of these. Congratulations on marrying a real “keeper”.
I like it. Grip & slide length reminds me of my Glock model 45 & 19x. I have both. I have big hands and need the full size G17 grip but the G19 slide. My perfect this my love for the 45/19x hyvbrids. Very nice handgun. I love IWI products. I have the Tavor 7, but that’s another story. 😅
Interesting, I've been considering a new CCW pistol for a while, now. I've been carrying the same SIG P365 for about four years and in 2500 plus rounds I've never had an issue. However, I'm going to give the IWI 9s a looking over. Excellent price point by the way.
I sold my p365 a couple months ago. I couldn't shoot it nearly as good as my m&p shield. The shield is a little bigger and has a better trigger break which is what made the difference. I think that the p365 and hellcat are just a little too small for me. I think they're great choices for women but guys need something that's at least the size of a shield, g43, canik mc9 or this masada slim. When you hold the p365 up to something like the shield it looks a lot smaller but when you actually carry them you can't tell the difference.
I very much appreciate that you review economical firearms. There are a lot of extra costs associated with obtaining a firearm (especially restrictive states) and the last thing that America needs is for the 2A to be a wealthy man's right. Our gun manufacturers are always looking to up sell and I am glad their are people that provide prospective consumers with good low cost options. On that track, what are your opinions on budget shotguns? That seems to be the easiest way for a non gun owner to acquire a formidable home defense capability, provided that they actually work.
There are different routes that someone might take when it comes to purchasing a shotgun. For example, there are a lot of very good shotguns that can be purchased from used racks at local shops. Often, they are very inexpensive. I have not done a lot of work (yet) with some of the "budget" imported shotguns, but I would like to do so in the future. Until then, I cannot really comment on them, one way or the other. Thanks for watching!
I've never heard of a Massada pistol. Back in 14 I started carrying A Glock 26 with Pearce +0 XL grip extentsons. This was before the single stack/micro 9 craze. I also have no use for a dot & or a white light on a pistol. Since my current self defense pistol works. I'm not replacing it any time soon.
I consider it a Macro which is becoming hottest size wise and hopes it continues..3.4-3.8" Slim bigger and easier to shoot for most than the Micros that can fit in pocket but longer barrel for better full jhp expansion. The takedown pin is an issue to me.. it's shield plus size and probably shoots similarly....could have had a takedown lever.
It is a regular subcompact because it is a true double stack as is the MC9. I consider the micro label a marketing term with no real meaning. Micros are just single stack subcompacts that squeeze a few extra rounds into the same space. The MC9 with a flush fit gives you two extra rounds over the Shield Plus for a slightly smaller grip length. If you compare the the MC9 to the equal capacity of the P365X/XL the MC9 is 0.3" shorter.
@johnshepherd9676 no...width and weight is what makes Micros and Macros different than Subcompacts and Compacts. Huge difference when carrying appendix all day. And mc9 feels girthier and had reliability issues
@@DanTheWolfman Width is a secondary concern and if a couple of ounces makes a difference to you then you might want to see a physician to make sure you don't have a serious illness. There are single stacks that are just as then and just as light or lighter than a micro. It is the capacity that makes a micro a micro.
Happy Birthday Chief :) Are there a lot of holster options for the Slim? I am one of those that really benefits from the Red Dot. It's a game changer. I chose Holosun for my trusted G19. I am making shots I could not have dreamed of previously. For the naysayers, I have 20 year on irons and 40K plus rounds of practice. TY for you channel and enjoy your slim.
You’re welcome. As of yet, there are not a lot of holsters designed specifically for the 9S. It does, however, fit well in some of the more generic options.
As a leftie I got the Masada full-size as my very first handgun and absolutely loved it. I'm very disappointed that IWI didn't keep the full ambidextrous controls on the slim. I ended up passing on the Masada slim and went with the Kimber R7 Mako. I wish I could have stuck with the Masada lineup, but as an ambidextrous and mixed ocular dominant person, I just must have a fully ambi handgun.
As a lefty, i like to have all the controls on the same side as the slide stop, aside from 1911 safeties, i like ambi. I have a thumbs forward hold on handguns so i like all of the controls on the other side. Watch the 1911 Syndicate video on lefty shooting and you’ll understand!

As many other people on here giving their opinion on this pistol. Now watching your here. I'll take a look at them. Now I'm thinking about it. What is your recommendation on a good red dot for pistol use. I'd love to get a red dot for my range days, I'm not to crazy about on my EDC. I've heard red dots are good for like from 15 yards and more. But, not for 7 yards and up

All are solid choices. IWI and CZ are great in quality. Can't argue with Ruger or Smith&Wesson either.
Main thing is get one you like and train lights out with it
Love show and tell!
Good in-depth look at the 9S. I'm still debating whether the three camera idea adds value, or is distracting. Hmmm........
I’m slowly getting a better handle on that format. On my first attempt, I think I over did it. I think now it’s starting to flow a like more smoothly. Watch my next couple of videos. The whole concept is a work in progress.
H.R. Happy Birthday wishes to you . Make sure you Wine & Dine your Wife . Sounds like you have a Good one.
I'll check it out. Haven't yet found a small handgun that I prefer over the FNS9c.
Really liking the new production quality!
Thank you!
Very nice ! Our office just transitioned from Glock 21 to Shadow Systems XR-920 9mm with a Streamlight TRL-7A light. Have a Blessed Day 🇺🇸
Thank you! How do you like the new pistol?
@@hrfunk Love it ! Feels great in the hand and not that heavy at all. From what I understand they accept Glock magazines as well but are shipped with magpul magazines. They also fit most Glock 19 holsters. These 9mm pistols are much more controllable than our old Glock 21 45acp. The one I was carrying was a Gen 3 19 years old and way past replacement time. Our new sheriff is a law man and not a politician like our past sheriff’s were. He’s a good man and taking better care of us and our county.
👍👍looks like a good choice for you.
Happy Birthday, HR!
Thank you!
Happy Belated Birthday, Mr. Funk! Great video, thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Interesting selection HR. I like your choice. Obviously you can carry whatever you want and you have a lot of experience with a lot of brands. You are giving IWI a good endorsement. I'm sure it will serve you well.
Thanks Troy. So far I really like this little handgun.
Happy Belated Birthday Howard! I gained another year this month also.
Thank you and Happy Birthday!
Hey sarge, you look sharp and in shape... even your gig line is in alignment. Good work! Wish I can do the same at my age.
Thanks! I hope you do!
My wife got me a handgun for my Birthday one year and another for Christmas another year. She’s the best for many reasons.
I hope you review the Springfield SA 35. I want one but I'm waiting to hear more about it. Especially if someone does a side by side comparison with a 1911. I have a 1911 so it's a benchmark to go by.
Not an SA35, but here’s a comparison of those two platforms that I produced a few years ago: ua-cam.com/video/KCjSIejBMoE/v-deo.html
I asked Mimi to buy me that fancy vise no response.... Thanks for the video. I really value this channel and your expertise.
Thanks KD!
GREAT VID and thank you devil dog. I like IWI products and intend on grabbing one of the tavor shotguns but I really can't justify buying the slim as I already have the G43X and the P365. If id do get another micro-tool it will be the FN RELFLEX with a red dot mount.
I like the low key unveiling of a new camera angle too!
Thank you!
Happy (belated) Birthday! It certainly must be an outstanding choice: Just as you mentioned, you've had your fair share of the latest and greatest pistols, so it's no surprise you were able to find the best option for you. 👍👍
I have been fortunate. That is for certain. By the way, we missed you this morning. Thanks for watching!
@@hrfunk Thanks! I have been back & forth to D.C. the past couple of weeks, so I snoozed a little longer this AM. 😆
@@TheGunfighter45acp I would probably do the same thing I I’d been there, but it might be a result of trying to purge my mind with alcohol.
@@hrfunk 🤣🤣🤣
Curious why you never looked at the Shield Plus?
I actually did. I just preferred the 9S.
Don't wait too long. I could for see the price creeping up as the word gets out about these pistols. Thanks for watching!
@@hrfunk That's true... I plan on getting a rifle first, though. I don't own one and feel like I really need to add one and work on developing my skillset with it first.
Very informative video as usual. And by the way, you look great. Very fit.
Thank you!
Wishes for a very happy birthday, and compliments on the thoughtful gift from MrsHR
Thank you!
Thank you!
Thanks. As a HellCat owner/carrier. I will give 9S a try. Semper Fi.
Please let me know what you think of the 9S after you try it.
Interesting, I've been considering a new CCW pistol for a while, now. I've been carrying the same SIG P365 for about four years and in 2500 plus rounds I've never had an issue. However, I'm going to give the IWI 9s a looking over. Excellent price point by the way.
Let me know what you think of it. Thanks for watching!
I've been a big fan of IWI ever since I got my Tavor. Never had any issues with it
I very much appreciate that you review economical firearms.
@@hrfunk Thanks for replying.
Traded mine for the canik mc9 and I love it ... Still carry the gx4 carry the most but when I go super small the canik is nice
Congratulations on your new CCW/IWI Masada Slim/Birthday Present and may it serve you well! 🙂
Looking forward to the Hellcat/Slim Shootout!
Thank you!
Shield Plus performance center and Canik mc9 are my main 2 in rotation for carry. I carry my M&P Metal sometimes also
I ended up getting me a smaller pistol for carry. The weight doesn't cause the holster to move around, and doesn't pull my pants down.
Really glad you picked the Masada Slim.
Best handgun I’ve ever owned!
I was just shooting mine again yesterday. The more I shoot that little pistol, the more I like it!
@@hrfunk me too!
Please do a fair comparison that includes the Yeet Cannon !
Definitely been waiting for this video.
Good. I hope it serves you well for a long time to come.
You meant one of my CCW guns I carry. One on the hip, ankle, backside etc!🤠
It is the capacity that makes a micro a micro.
heading to my local shop this coming Friday for either the Bersa TPR9c or the S&W Shield Plus in 30 Super Carry ...
Let me know which one you choose.
Where I come from a CCW is a felony. We are issued a CPL . Nice gun.
FIRST OF ALL:
Happy belated Birthday, Chief. I noticed on the UA-cam app that I haven’t been receiving notifications for your videos and when I tapped the bell, it mysteriously said I didn’t toggle said notifications so I retapped it again.
SECOND: I am FINALLY processing with an agency. Took awhile because of the knee, but I finally did it and will start backgrounds in a few weeks.
Unfortunately the agency is still in California, but I figured I’ll eventually lateral on to Nevada later down the line.
Good for you. I hope all goes well during the selection process. Be sure to keep me informed on your progress. Referecne the bell icon, that "de-selection" of notifications seems to happen a lot. If you go more than a week without seeeeing a video from me, be sure to check my channel page to see what's going on.
@@hrfunkRoger that, Chief, and I will! It’s a six step process that according to a buddy of mine who retired from that department, it sometimes would go as far as a year, but they’re kinda speeding up the process because they need officers.
A friend craves everything IWI!!!!
Only shot the Masada once but I did like the bullpulp Tavor in .223 quite a bit.
Actually enough to be interested in one!
I would love to shoot one, but MAN they’re expensive!
Guess that's why I tend not to buy anything but top tier for the most part. If I am not buying every new gun that comes around, I have more money for the really good stuff? Just me...
I hope to shoot as well as you some day. You’ve got many years of training but I’m young yet. I like your new CCW choice. I’m a 45 guy, but these new 9mm compacts are very appealing!
Best of luck Christopher. Thanks for watching!
Hello sir, Im happy to see Americans like an Israeli company. I shot the original Masada just two weeks after it came out in Israel. Currently i carry myself a full size pistol but it would be my choice if I move to a slim line pistol. I think its a home run too, even more than the full size one. Hello from Israel.
Hello, and thanks for the comment! The more products I try from IWI, the more I like them. Hopefully I can get a Tavor in the future.
@@hrfunk It's a very comfortable gun, would look for your video to see how you like it
As many other people on here giving their opinion on this pistol. Now watching your here. I'll take a look at them. Now I'm thinking about it. What is your recommendation on a good red dot for pistol use. I'd love to get a red dot for my range days, I'm not to crazy about on my EDC. I've heard red dots are good for like from 15 yards and more. But, not for 7 yards and up
"Good" is a relative term both in sight recommendations and applicable distances. A lot will depend upon what handgun you are planning on mounting the sight to. If you give me a little more info, I'll try to offer some suggestions.
@hrfunk yea, sorry. I guess I should have said with pistol. Well as far a my range pistol goes I do plan on doing some competition shooting so my top two choices in pistol ether shadow systems DR920L or Sig Sauer X-FIVE HD3 Pistol.
For pistols like that, the Hi Lux TD3C and the Holosun 507C offer multiple reticle options.
@hrfunk good evening, HRFUNK. Thank you for information on that. I just wrote those two down and I will do my reviews and homework on witch best suit the pistol and my range goals. Happy Sunday to you and your wife. I hope to one day find a lady that'll buy me guns for Christmas and my birthday. 💯 💍 her.
Best of luck!
I was recently shooting a snub 5 shooter with 158 +P. That is not painful or anything but I would call that combo a bit "snappy". More so than any pocket 9 I have tried.
Another great video, sir. Ok, this may have been asked and answered before, but something I've noticed when you're filming in "the shop" is the clock on the back wall; that clock seems to always be "stuck" on a different time. Does that have any significant meaning 😂? Again, thanks for the great content.
I exist outside of normal time. That’s why I always seem to be out of date.
@@hrfunk ...I'm beginning to believe we all are starting to exist "outside of normal time". I wish they would quit turning the Hadron Collider on and off lol. No sir, you are definitely not out of date; you have one of the best and most relevant boom-stick channels on YTube. Many of us "fudds" can relate.
Good job post 👍🎯 (haven't shot a Massada) glock user for a long time Carry on 🔫🇺🇲
Great choice. I think IWI handguns are severely underrated. I’m a big fan of Israeli weapons especially between IWI and Bul.
I really like the pistol. If I were using it for home defense I think I might pass though. My house and yard are very dark at night, so for that application I would need a light. On a carry gun, not so much. Everywhere I go has lighting of so sort. If they don’t, I simply don’t go. Thanks again for a very informative video sir, I’ve enjoyed every one of them.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!
I don't use the accessory rail on any of my handguns. Lights and lasers are flags for the intruder to locate their target.
Nice CCW. What about handguns for woods carry. Another video request ...
Hmm. That might be fun. Stay tuned!
One of the reasons I watch your vids is to learn new things - I had not heard or seen this particular pistol before. The price is very reasonable - I see them for $415 (I don't think it's optic ready, but it might be...). Thanks for the review and congrats on your new pistol - happy belated birthday!
Thank you! Just FYI, all the Masada pistols are optics ready.
I met some IWI reps a few yrs ago. IWI is a class act.
I thought the same thing when I talked to them at the NRAAM back in April.
Not a fan of the red dot sights on handguns for CCW, most shootings are within 10-15 feet or less, iron sites is all you need for CCW. As a ex-Army Marksmanship unit member we thought of red dots on handguns as a crutch for the target shooters, that's just my opinion here. The IWI Masada Slim is a nice handgun from my research.👍 ***Just My Opinion***
And you are certainly entitled to your opinion! Thank you for your service to our country.
I have the Mecanic mo1 mounted on my TP9 Elite SC , nice optic for the money , I think it looks good on your IWI slim , hope it works out for you
So far, I'm pretty impressed with it. I wasn't sure what I woutld think of the self adjusting brightnesss feature, but it always seems to be just fight in any type of light conditions.
I feel like the Bowl of Petunias in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy so often when I see a video from one of the gun channels I respect:
"Oh no, not again." With an added, here's another gun I want.
I'm just gonna have to try one out......I appreciate your honesty and knowledge of weapons, always spot on. Thank you for sharing your expertise and giving us an insight of various weapons.

Looks like IWI Slim
Great choice love mine grip angle work s great for optics
I like the entire grips design. That's one of the things that really drew me to the 9S.
Thanks for the variety you provide. Do you own a Shield Plus to compare? I've been in the hunt for a sub compact/micro. I'm liking that 9S so far to check out.
I don’t have a Shield Plus, but I’ve handled them. I prefer the feel/ergos of the Masada.
Heya Mr. Funk and fellow Funkaholics - another great review. Thanks for your expertise and time.

I have a new Masada slim coming now. Muddy River Tactical has Holsters for it and can make to order also . Just curious, what was the firearm you couldn’t get. I am waiting on the new offering from HK. It’s smaller than the VP9SK ……. It’s the SFP9CC
I’m waiting very impatiently for the Final Edition Walther P99.
