  • Jewish settlers in Palestine: the most notorious squatters in the world.
Israeli settlers have been slowly nibbling away at Palestine's West Bank territory for four decades. 300,000 setllers now occupy outposts that range in size from plywood shacks to full-blown suburban housing complexes. Their abundance has grounded the much-ballyhooed two-state solution to a halt. VICE correspondent Simon Ostrovsky travels from Tel Aviv to the remote West Bank outposts where young Israelis squat for the sake of their heritage. But first, Simon pops in for some quick counter-terrorism training with a member of Israel's Special Forces, just in case.

@@vl8584 An Indian supporter of Israel lol. They keep springing up everywhere because both countries are equally militaristic and have their own illegal occupations. As for the Muslim Arabs, if you don't know what you're talking about it's best not to speak. Do you know Israeli Muslims are not allowed to build while Israeli Jews are? They never get permits to build a home. Their homes get demolished daily while you'd be hard pressed to find Israel demolishing a Jewish family's home. There is practically no policing in the communities where Arab Muslims and Christian live. There are almost daily attacks on mosques and churches. I can show you the pictures of spray painted churches and blown up mosques not that you care because you support those crimes. Arab Muslims in Jerusalem cannot vote. There are price tag attacks and any day Israeli government can raze entire Palestinian communities within Israel to build archaeological parks. Do you know the Palestinians don't even get half of the water that an Israel family receives? It's all reported by Israeli human rights organizations. If you weren't a shameless defender of Israeli and Indian military illegal occupations and an Islamophobe who believes he has the right to speak on behalf of Muslims, you wouldn't have peddled the lies you just did.

    • @ymhertz845
      @ymhertz845 8 років тому +21

+warumbel You could do that, but good luck being recognized. Israel is a state today not because they have a 3000 year-old claim, but because they declared a state and the UN recognized it. The 3000 year old connection just shows that Jews are indigenous to Israel just as much as Palestinians are to Palestine. The Palestinians however cannot just declare a state, because the land they claim for a state (Judea and Samaria, or the West Bank) is officially considered 'disputed territories' and by international law they are required to negotiate with Israel, who controlled the land way before the PLO was even recognized as a government. And they've received some extremely generous offers which of course they've turned down.

It's also a matter of international law not of emotion. That's why your appeal to the right to sovereignty on the basis of your forebears has no more justification than that of a Palestinian. Like most people haven't heard of the MILF (hehe) in the Philippines because of Al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

"I don't see why it should." Perhaps because you're invading their country.
I mean, I have no problem with the Israeli and Jewish people settling their ancestral lands, go ahead, they should also have freedom to worship and practice their religion in peace. But similarly, it shouldn't come at the expense of the people already living there, like it did in the first intifada, I mean Palestinians were forced out of their homes and murdered on the grounds that Jerusalem is the ancestral lands of the Jewish people. That's attempted genocide at least. There was always an option that both peoples could have lived in peace in Palestine during the years in which the British attempted to ensure so. Similarly the actions of Hamas and ISIS have been unforgivable in relation to their use of violence and drugs to fund their operations, which themselves entail violence. For that they should be punished and imprisoned, much like those who have outright refused to seek a peaceful solution in Israeli command. Similarly settling illegally in Palestine is just unacceptable, especially when deemed illegal by all three governments involved ( Israeli, Palestinian and UN) and Israel must take a role in putting a stop to this especially if they themselves have deemed it illegal.
I feel and have always felt that a two state solution wherein both nations walk away with access to suitable infrastructure and access to holy sites is the best option, but clearly others in the area will not stop until one nation arises from the ashes.

While the documentary does a good job of trying to portray Jews as invaders and the Arabs as the innocent brown people in the way, it conveniently neglects the history of this region, which by it, is rightfully Jewish land.
Under the Balfour Declaration of 1917, the whole of the Palestinian mandate was allocated to the Jewish people to establish a homeland by the British, based on their historical, genetic, ethnic and linguistic ties to the region. It is essential to note that at this time, the Palestinian mandate comprised of present day Israel, Gaza, the West Bank AND JORDAN. Originally, what is now Israel, Jordan and the nonexistent country of Palestine was suppose to be the entirety of Israel. However, Great Britain later gave 77% of the land to the Arabs, putting the Heshmite Dynasty (originally from Saudi Arabia) in power. In the present, 70%-80% of Jordan is Palestinian. Hmm, a country making up the majority of the former Palestinian mandate, with most of the population being Palestinian. It's as if Jordan is the Palestinian state. Weird huh?
Based on this, it was later established under the San Remo declaration in 1920, The Faisal Weizmann Agreement, and the 1922 Mandate for Palestine, that all the land East of the Jordan river was to allocated to the Arabs, while all the land West of it was to allocated to the Jews, this includes Judea and Sumeria, otherwise known as the West Bank, as well as Gaza. The conclusion that we draw from this is that the West Bank belongs to Israel, not the Palestinians.
It is fundamental to understand that the West Bank use to have a significantly larger Jewish population in Jericho, Hebron, Jenin, etc. These Jews were driven out by mobs of antisemitic Arabs in the 1929 riots. The West Bank didn't even exist as an entity separate from Israel under after the Jordanian occupation of it, ending in 1967. Jordan created its borders when they attempted to destroy Israel in 1948, and ethnically cleansed the region of it's remaining Jews. Israel takes it back 19 years later and for it they're called invaders.
Anyone who thinks Israel should withdrawal from the West Bank is paralyzed by their own ignorance. The Palestinian Authority would fall apart if it was not for Israeli aid and IDF protection (Muhammad Abbas more or less admitted this). Upon Israeli withdrawal, the region would descend into the same violence Gaza did, upon Israeli withdrawal in 2005. The West Bank would be seized by Hamas, who would systematically exterminate the 300,000 Jews living there, probably along with the Samaritan and Christian populations, if not subject them to Islamic theocracy. The West Bank would experience a war between Hamas, the IDF, the PA, Jewish Settlers and Jordan. It would make the conflict significantly worse than it already is, and would turn the West Bank into just a larger launch pad for Hamas to bomb central Israel, the most populous region.
It makes an unarguable amount of sense to establish Jordan as the Palestinian state. Instead of creating a house of cards Palestinian state in the middle of Israel. I firmly believe that Israel should continue it's presence in Judea and Sumeria for the reasons stated above, and should not pull out under any circumstances.

      Noah Ismail Hi Noah
      It would under these circumstances:
1.) If you were indigenous to the land of California and had a history in the region spanning 3000 years
2.) If Britain had complete international legal authority over the state of California
3.) If you and your four million friends had been perusing sovereignty in the region under historical, ethnic, cultural and indigenous rights.
4.) If you and the four million people had been in a diaspora for the past 2000 years, from the state of California, and had suffered brutal, unmatched persecution in that diaspora. Making the establishment of a homeland in California something of a necessity.
By the way, it was not Britain who established Israel. The Belfour Declaration was nothing more than a legal document allowing Jewish immigration. Jews had purchased land from the Ottomans to built Petah Tikva and Rishon LeZion in the 1870's and 1880's.
The Jews of pre-state Israel fought an armed conflict with the British from the 1920's to the 1940's. Not unlike the conflict between the IRA and Great Britain for the same reason. Britain quickly went back on their promise and gave 77% of the land to the Heshmites (a huge mistake) and stopped boats of Jewish refugees from docking in Haifa and Jaffa.
What gave rise to Israeli independence was the 1947 resolution by the United Nations. Which over 50 countries voted in favor of. Britain abstained.

The largest genetic study ever done on Jews was conducted by Wayne State University in 2013. It found a close genetic relation between Jews of all ethnic divisions, with their genetic constancy being typical of what you would see in population in the Levant (very similar to Syrians, Druze, Palestinians and Samaritans).
      Link:
      digitalcommons.wayne.edu/humbiol_preprints/41/
"not some boy with blond hair and blue eyes who looks as if he's Swedish."
Ethnic ancestry is based on Haplogroups, not hair color. Hair color varies more between individuals than ethnicity. For example, a Norwegian and a Pole could both have the dominate trait for blond hair. While another Norwegian and another Pole could have the dominate trait for black hair, but the two Poles are more closely related to each other, the same can be said for the Norwegians.
Going by your name I imagine you are from a Middle Eastern country, so I think we can both agree that you don't need to look far to find blond Syrians, Druze, Arameans, Shabaks, etc. The fact that some Jews have blond hair doesn't mean anything. They more than likely had the recessive gene for it, and it came out. That's all.
Jews were confined to walled off slums in medieval Europe and needed an edict of safe passage to leave. Converts were not welcome and leaving the Christian faith or marrying outside of it was considered apostasy and punishable by death. If you understand the history of Jews in Europe, it is nothing short of ridiculous to assume that large scale conversion or assimilation occurred. It didn't. Segregation was heavily enforced. The history of the Jews from 3000 B.C until now is well documented for each passing century. Josephus wrote about Jewish/Hebrew communities in the Mediterranean basin in the 1st century. Their history is entirely consistent. The Hebrews never disappeared.
People who oppose the idea of Jewish self-determination in the Levant only propagate the idea that the Jews are not Semitic to reinforce their view.
I'm not asking you to love everything Israel does. You can still stand behind the Palestinian cause to any degree you see fit. But it is impossible to deny the ancestral origins of the Jewish people, when all the evidence supports it.

Noah Ismail Thank you for the link. I had made the assumption that it was in reference to the study by Eran Elhaik, I was waiting for you to address him by name.
The thing about Eran Elhaik is he is not taken seriously by most genealogist because of his political agenda. He is a proponent of the Khazar theory, which is an already debunked myth from the 1970's. It suggest that Ashkenazi Jews are the descendants of a Turkic people who converted to Judaism in the 10th century. First I will address Eran Elhaik's study, then I will address why the Khazar theory is false.
1.) For Eran's study, he used Heshmites to represent pan-Israelites. The problem with this is that the Heshmites are not indigenous to the Levant. Their ancestral origins are among the Arab tribes of the Arabian peninsula, from the Kingdom of Hajez. Britain conceded the present day country of Jordan to the Heshmites because the Saud's would not give them any land in Saudi Arabia.
2.) He used Armenians as pan-Khazars. Armenians are not of Turkic origin.
3.) His study found a very close relation between modern Jews and Druze. His absurd defense was that it was evidence the Druze are of Turkic origin, when this is not the case, their entire existence has occurred in the Levant (mostly Southern Syria).
Now I will address the Khazar theory:
For one, there is no physical historical evidence that the Khazar's were Jews. This is only speculation. Second, European Jewry predates the Khazars by about 2000 years. One of the oldest synagogues in the world is in Stobi, Macedonia, and the Jews in Europe are written about extensively by Josephus in "Antiquity of the Jews" published in the 1st century A.D. If Jews are not the descendants of ancient Hebrews, then their history in Europe should only go back to the 11th century A.D. It doesn't. The earliest record of Jewish communities in Europe is from the 3rd-4th century B.C.

It looks like you were in Gush Etzion. Jews lived there before 1948 or land purchased by Jews. The Arabs massacred 60 some people who had not fled in 48. After 67, the children who had lived there returned. So they do not have the right to live there? Tell the Native Americans they can not live where they want in the US.
There are many more Arabs in the area then there were. In the past they farmed much less land (also because they had not irrigation techniques) and they land they farmed was owned by absentee landlords in Damascus, generally.

More notorious then China squatting in Tibet? stealing an entire country 17 years before Israel fought the war against six of it's neighbor's? How is it considered squatting, when the country Israel took it from, Jordan, doesn't even want it back? They acquiesced in 1987.

racist gun law policies, provincialism. religious scriptural justification of Illegal settler encroachment. I wonder what happens when Palestinian families try to bring the settlers to court and get an eviction started? Why doesn't the Israeli military that occupied the West Bank, move in and clear out those settlements. If they are violating treaties by not handing over the territory, then wouldn't it be justified for those Arab nations to resume conflict? If there is no provisional treaty for the West Bank to be handed over then obviously Israel can do or not do what it wants concerning the conquered province..except violating human rights..was the 7 days war accord drafted according to scriptural historic surveys/accounts? If not, they really shouldn't be using it to justify anything from a legal standpoint.

The true teachings of the Torah forbid the Jews from having a homeland and many orthodox Jews are very much against the aggressive, oppressive Zionist policies of Israel. I remember how it was in 1948 when Israel was being established and all my Jewish friends were ecstatic, I was not. I said: what are we doing? We are establishing ourselves in a ghetto, in a small corner of a vast Muslim sea. The Muslims will never forget nor forgive, and Israel, as long as it exists, will be embattled. I was laughed at, but I was right. I can’t help but feel that the Jews didn’t really have the right to appropriate a territory only because 2000 years ago, people they consider their ancestors, were living there. Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin acknowledged in a speech in 1982 that its war on Egypt in 1956 was a war of “choice” and that, “In June 1967 we again had a choice. The Egyptian army concentrations in the Sinai approaches do not prove that Nasser was really about to attack us. We must be honest with ourselves. We decided to attack him.” ' -

Yitzhak Rabine who latter became Israel's Prime Minister told Le Monde the year following the ’67 war, “I do not think Nasser wanted war. The two divisions which he sent to the Sinai, on May 14, would not have been sufficient to start an offensive against Israel. He knew it and we knew it.”

'The current Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., Michael B. Oren, acknowledged in his book “Six Days of War“, widely regarded as the definitive account of the war, that “By all reports Israel received from the Americans, and according to its own intelligence, Nasser had no interest in bloodshed”.'

we need a two state solution. The Jewish expansion into the West Bank can't continue. Frankly, it won't. A major threat to the survival of a Jewish state is the Arab population growth within Israel. Jews will want that Arab base to settle in the West Bank.
Secondly, as much as I support Israel, those settlements are an affront to international law. Israel isn't doing itself any PR favours with expansion into the West Bank.
