I've searched the comments here somewhat, but I didn't find anyone explaining the song. The name of the song translated to English would roughly be, Tears of Nature, or The Natures Tears. She is the nature, experiencing sunsets in gold and red, birds taking to the skies as she lifts her eyes. Then she hears/experiences the sound and exhaust from an exhaust pipe, hence the coughing. My German isn't super good as I am Norwegian, so I am sure that I am missing out a bit, but that is the essence of the song. I know it's been a few years since the release of your video, but I stumbled upon it right now. :)
I think it was very nice that you reacted to the song. I also reacted, and thousends of other people reacted too, so I think it was nice that you also reacted.

Oh my, not the song that I would have chosen from that amazing show. But I know that in the comments to that video on UA-cam, there was a lot of love for that song, so I understand how you arrived there. Thanks for doing this!
She has also done some movies. She did two movies based on Snow White and the 7 Dwarves. She played the Evil Queen and her daughter, Cosma Shiva played Snow White. She also did a voice-over as Sally in the German version of "The Nightmare Before Christmas". Her first film is "Cha Cha" with her friends Lene Lovich and Herman Brood (a Dutch singer).

Not so cool how this dude tries to brush it off as "punk rock" like there's no worth in it. That's pretty cheap on quite a few levels. But I enjoy seeing his shell break at around 6:00 when it does start hitting him. Nina is enviable simply because she is *_free_* .
"Experimental"? - No...they wrote this song with an idea in mind, rehearsed it and practiced it before getting on stage. "what the parents of the kids thought"? - It was punk rock...had nothing to do with "The Parents". The goal was to piss off the parents! - to be an individual and buck the system. That's what being a Punk is all about...being offensive and not taking any crap.

She was in the forefront of radical musical change in Germany that led into the German new wave music style. Everything until that time was traditional "Schlager music". I was a teenager at the time and totally uninterested in this kind music. Then my sister advised me to take listen to Nina Hagen. It’s simply not that often that a trained opera singer with one of the craziest voice ranges in Europe decided to make punk. ;)
I hear this as modern jazz or art music. Love it.
she never make punk just rock
She is on record stating that she is not opera trained.
"It's kinda the sound when you yawn, anyone can do it " Nina Hagen.

This whole show is a masterpiece
This song is not to be taken seriously, she's basically mocking the cultural (opera) establishment, which happens to be what she was brought up in. :)
She's mocking herself actually... She said in an interview that this song started as a song about a lost love of hers, but by the time she finished it she already thought how ridiculously pretentious and theatrical it was, so she turned it into this mockery of self pity
Raffael is right, the lyrics are about how birds in flight make her sad because they remind her of her "acquaintance", and when she looks up to watch the birds the sunset over the city makes her cry. So the opera singing is about the beauty of the scenery and the shrieks and coughs are her wailing and sobbing. The chicken at the end kinda makes sense too (in German a "dummes Huhn" - lit. "stupid chicken" means a brainless girl).

Well, if you wanna dig a little deeper into this, listen to the Band after they split up as "Nina Hagen Band"
They renamed themselves to "Spliff". The following Album "Spliff Radio Show" is, at least to me, the best
what Germany had to offer these days !!
ua-cam.com/video/VQAKWyPAkO8/v-deo.html
Even after they did this they released several Albums in German!
What paretns think about? *giggles* You should have watched the faces of my kids while i watched it 🙃😉
