    i was scrolling my recommended and came across this video. i assumed when i clicked it that it would be similar to other video essays i've seen, talking about a videogame the creator liked while being all retrospective and chill. what i didn't expect is how heartwarming this video was. it's so obvious you have so much care and respect for the games you talked about, wanting your audience to reach out to the games you so obviously harbor so much appreciation for. that and your editing is really well put together, your voice is really relaxing, and my eyes were hooked to the screen the entire time.

    this probably explains why a Vanilla version of a random fangame called Lisa: the pointless stuck up with me so much. it's a simple game with a simple premise that can be beaten completely in 3 hours and one playthrough. even if there is literally a fanmod of a fanmod of a fangame that's high quality, it always felt like the vanilla was more memorable. the fact that Vanilla's downtown is just as small as the rest of the areas makes it special. all those murderous freaks and yet the game treats them as just "yet another thing". they are confined to one small space where both exits are either falling off a cliff or going through the scorching desert hours upon hours on end. and their murder cult is so obsessed with it that it quickly becomes apparent that they eventually will just kill eachother. as you casually just stroll through the area and often get jumped by them but just kill them due to how inexperienced, exhausted, and wounded they already were. optional bosses are complete pushovers once you do things right. and the final boss is literally just "a dude who's normal". the strongest enemy you encounter so far is just a 35 year old looking man who doesn't particularly suffer from any particular illness, and knows how to throw a basic jab or three. and that's literally it. doesn't matter if you beat him or not, you have to eventually take a leap of faith in this game. most of the reason why this game is regarded as brutal is just because you are an old man using a fake martial art that you are trying your best to utilize.

    This is easily one of the most well put together videos I've seen in a while. The thumbnail, scriptwriting, pacing, editing, and general quality all felt like something id see from a full time video essay creator. I didn't even realize I was watching a smaller youtuber until 8 whole minutes into the video. Keep up the great work man, you're 100% going places.

    The way i think of it is you only need one or a few good ideas to make a shorter game but when you stretch it out it feels shallow, a great mechanic can carry a game for a while but you need a lot of imagination to carry it further.
    It's like stretching a pop song for longer than 3 minutes, you can only repeat that chorus so many times.

      ok! just finished watching it :) super nice vid, but if anything I was just left looking for a bit more of an argument than “these games are short and I enjoyed them,” yknow? also I felt like the mixing between vocals and music was a bit off at time
      but it’s still a super great video! gonna subscribe so I can see you progress as a creator :)

    if you like smallish games with an amazing experience you should play Outer Wilds, (not to be mistaken with the triple A game outer worlds) Outer Wilds is my favourite game of all time, nothing i've played or seen has come close. Outer Wilds deserves way more love than in gets being a once in a lifetime experience I honestly can't recommend Outer Wilds enough if you haven't played it already you really should.

    I think the problem is : quality over time. When you play these smaller games, you usualy play the content without any filler content. You are playing the game and not multiple part linked together of that game. If we look at palworld for exemple, its fun the learn the new mechanics but it gets stale and boring has the game has nothing intersting anymore, but instead of ending the game now the devs put in mechanics to make the game last longer, but didn't make it as high quality, so people stop playing once they there. But when your playing these shorter games, they don't put anything to make the game last longer, its just the game, they have the same quality over time. Tho bigger games can have the same level of depth and quality over a longer experience, elden ring is what I mean. It took me about 70 hours to complete the game on my first time, but never felt like the game had holes to fill. Every area, ennemy, boss, item, music or anything was of high quality. Thats why it won game of the year. But what made elden ring so good was quality over time, it stayed good and fun all my 70 hours, while other games try to juice their content to get to those high playtime hours. But the smaller games don't do that. They keep the same level of quality all of the game. So i think why are bigger games not always better is because they don't have good quality over time.

    • @Nxcturnalll
      @Nxcturnalll  8 місяців тому +1

      I completely agree with you, and that's exactly why I mentioned BOTW and TOTK. Those games are like elden ring for you in the sense, those games are amazing but only happen once in a blue moon. Shorter games definitely limit their filler for sure

    nice video, i think theres a few points missing from this video / not enough emphasis on them (like how bigger games pad out their runtime n all with filler or lower quality content, or how the small small games are just more creative since they dont need to be as long and can just be a few ideas or a single small idea (basically the main reason that smaller games are better many a times imo)). also feel like you couldve used more examples of certain big games being bad for being too big but i guess theres supposed to be more focus on the small games here sooo,
    anyways im subbed now

    How can you say you "regret" paying four pounds for the game?
    Are all those experiences seriously worth so little to you despite the effort you put into making this video? - Do you consider your time so worthless or the developer's? Sorry for being so combative but hearing that made me really freak out, it makes so little sense to say.

    • @Nxcturnalll
      @Nxcturnalll  8 місяців тому

      i get what you're saying, the reason i said that was because Gravity Bone was free and Thirty Flights Of Loving was 4 pounds, despite being the same length and very similar games overall. I'm happy I experienced it but I did feel like somewhat of a rip-off, hope that makes sense!
