My Yellow Hibiscus Bonsai and More, The Bonsai Zone, June 2020

  • I'm turning my Yellow Hibiscus into a bonsai! The flowers on this plant are beautiful and they are Hawaii's state flower. The species is (Hibiscus brackenridgei).
    I begin the video by reducing the overall height of my Ficus benjamina bonsai.
    After working on the Hibiscus, I plant the Wax Myrtle seedlings into a group planting.
    I believe these are Pacific Wax Myrtles (Myrica californica)
    Today's updates are my Acacia bonsai (that I started from seed), my Austrian Pine, my Ginkgo and my Osage Orange forest.
    Stay tuned after the end of the video for an update to my 1972 Ford F250 crewcab Orchard truck!

    Nigel, wax myrtles make nice looking small trees where I live. The wood is weak but as I dont get much snow or ice, I have a two story wax myrtle tree in my front yard.
    In addition, thank you so much. I love your videos and have become a better bonsai artist because of them.

      I don't think there is right or wrong. What ist overpotted for a Japanese, might be underpotted for a European. The only rules i go for: 1.) Evergreen trees go into brown, best unglazed pots. 2.) literaty-style Bonsai go into evensided pots (round, sex-edges, eight edged) 3.) maskulin trees -> rectangular pots, feminin trees oval pots. but also there there might be exceptionals to the rules. I also like round potsfor every kind of tree, cause you don't have to choose a front and you are challenged to style trees which look good from every angle. When i repot in spring i have lots of pots to choose from (around 78 to 80). The more choice, the better the chances you find one that fits.

    Hi Nigel, great video... nice to see how the ficus is recovering. About daily issues: Some recommends to wipe alcohol on the shears blades in between pruning different trees to prevent propagating diseases from one tree to the other. I understand the sterilization argument, but isn't it a little bit neurotic if your trees looks healthy?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 роки тому +1

      It is good to wipe down the pruners between trees, I usually keep mine in the sun to keep them sterile. Transferring a fungus or viral problem from tree to tree is rare, but it can happen and chances are. it eventually will!

    I'm very sorry about my reaction to your videos. My feeling while watching them ist everytime stopping the speach. I like Just watching without millions of words. There ist no break without you speaking. It's difficult to follow. The work you are doing I like very well, but talking without any end is not very amusing 🙈
