Mors, you are one of the most brilliant minds in the world when it comes to outdoor/survival skills! I had the opportunity to meet you in 2001in PEI and witness first hand the magic of fire with a bow drill. I remembered thinking when you said "it is a bit chilly and windy here today so it will probably take the better part 20 seconds to get a fire started" this guy is full of .... but when you made fire it was one of the most incredible things I had ever witnessed first hand in my life. I went home and practiced and practiced then finally made my own magic. You Mr. Kochanski have inspired and touched so many people when it comes to outdoor skills. Thank-you for sharing your Knowledge!

This man is a veritable treasure trove of knowledge and information. I came across his videos only a few months ago. I can only imagine what learning from him first hand could do to enhance one's confidence in oneself and diminish one's fears of being alone in a wilderness environment. RIP sir.

Dear Mors, i deeply appreciate what you share , show and teach.- meanwhile i am "only" 46 years old, and bushcraft (i am even not sure if it was named like that back than) was and is a vital part in my life since approx 35 years. the most true thing i have read is " the more you know the less you (have to ) carry. The orange Full Tang knife looked like it is the LT Wright Lagoom. I own the smaller model called the lt wright kamrat in o1. Thanks for everything youve taught me Mors. Hope this finds you well

Will there young fellow I'm new to this you tube thing at 74 years old I think I can still learn might night remember, but I can still learn, memory still great like a iron trap but short . all kidding aside sad to you couldn't make to your get together . As for the knives just pick up my first Scandi blade love it. But Let's face it here in the west in California I'm just a bowie guy since I was old enough to earn money and buy one ,I have never found anything I could not do with it I guess dad never told me I could not do that with that blade I just did it . So all this stuff I see on you tube all the new steels every body calling what I have shit steel is just nuts to me but that's how it is . . HAPPY TRAILS YOUNG MAN LATER .

That's some great information,,,thanks for sharing this with me, I appreciate your time and knowledge.
Solid video, so much wisdom and passion. Love to see that yawara stick application again. Having the rod inside that cover/container to protect the rod from water and having some magnesium on top of that... seems to have some though put into the design. Other ferro rods with an integrated cover container seems too short for a big hand or doesn't have that solid look. Don't recall seeing other having magnesium on the surface of the cover (and the magnesium should not react to water). Clever. I also like that the grip is not tiny considering I might need the fire making when I am very frozen. Yes, some ferro rods have big grips, but far from all. Also clever to be able to have some vaselin cotton in that tiny integrated storage: I tend to want everything needed for a specific task in one place so when frozen and tired in the dark, there is less risk of messing up by not finding gear in a timely manner.
The tool showed in this channel is not easy to find these days or so it seems. Was that Robert Withrow Jr. or Senior? I do wonder if the tool is still sold somewhere.
12:00 Seven because that is the perfect number in wrapping strands around a single middle strand, so sic plus one is seven. It’s a geometric thing in the way you make the lines.

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this Channel. I am not a kid anymore but when I watch these videos I am in the woods again with my Camillus camping knife, beat up old fedorah, and making fires in the woods to make my cocoa, I was 10. May I ask does Mr. Korchanski have an opinion on the Leuku? and the Tom Brown Tracker? I am Not a kid anymore and I have plenty of knives, way too many, so this is not a 'what should I buy question, rather I am curious of his opinion. Thanks Ed

Mylar blanket does work, had to use it last winter when I fell out of my boat last.

I bought a Condor bushlore on your advice. I discovered 3,000lb paracord that had been inaccurately described on Amazon, Walmart and even the manufacturers web site since it was first released a few years ago. Contacted them and I bought 100ft, plus 100ft 1,200lb paracord, just to see. Interesting rope. Take care young man, eh.

Good to see you Mors! I carry the Mora Black. You have given me some great ideas to arm it with an inner tube:) And being prone to slivers, adding tweezers is ideal. The Survival Blanket should be called a sheet. Had expected one to be a blanket that would cover me but it was only good as a wrap in the rain, bag got soaked... Ended up buying three larger ones and tossing them into my pack. Great video, thanks Mors!

The nylon bonded Mylar martial is nor rear. It is used to make grow tents used in hydroponics. Google is your friend, just look up nylon Mylar and your find it.
Great that Mors agrees thatits silly to waste space of cutting edge near the handle. I never understood the point of choils,including small sharpening choils. What difference would it make even if you were unable to sharpen it right to the handle if you put a stupid choil there its worse than dull because now it catches everything you try to cut.

Always good to hear it straight from the man. What was that magnesium cigar that held a watertight chamber in one end and a ferro rod in the other? Maybe the Mag Stryker System?
Mag Striker by SOL? No. Doesn't look close. I believe the old "cigar" item shown here can't be found for buying any more. Pretty unique item shown by Mors.
That Sandvik steel Mora is the Mora no1. It's laminated steel. It was always the more expensive Mora together with the full tang (lapplander series) hunting knives. They also came with leather sheaths. Often they call the red painted handle Mora's no 1 but they are actually the budget ones called no 2.
That Jason Gustavson/Ben Piersma knife with the orange handle I really like. Too bad it's in O1 tool steel. Not the best for the climate I live in or visit.

Black rubberized spray paint turns any mylar black on one side, and stronger. Less snagging too.
Search "201t nylon ripstop reflective fabric for photographic equipment" I think this is the stuff used in the photograph studio reflectors Mors is referring to. Or at least very close. It seems the lightest weight material I could find... Cheers
