I liked their old couch better. This one is nice but that one fit the atmosphere best. I forgot that they changed their couch.
They look aged in here. I hardly noticed back then. They had to put Everybody Loves Raymond to sleepp because if anything people had lives and they stayed in that block long enough. The creators said there was no problem whatsoever only they run out of ideas. The show got exhausted. I wonder if they ever regreted that decision. 🤔

I didn't watch this show much when it aired so I don't remember much about it. Is Ray supposed to be this off putting? I know a lot of people don't like Debra. However, given what a man-child Ray is, can anyone blame her? Even if his concerns are legitimate, he comes across as such a jerk that it's hard or even impossible to side with him. This is the same man that once when Debra was chocking, Ray turned the TV volume up to drown out her chocking sounds. I do get that it's just a TV show and isn't real etc. and that the characters being this way is part of the joke. Still, I've heard of dysfunctional families but this is going well beyond dysfunction. Even in the context of it being fiction, how are these two not divorced?

I don’t know what you’re talking about when you say no one likes Debra cause I love Debra. Ray is the problem, he’s a big ol’ mama’s boy who takes Debra for granted & wants her to take care of him the way his mother does. He feels just cause he works, and Debra takes care of the kids, he doesn’t have to do anything. A lot of what Ray gets about marriage is from his parents. If this was real life, Debra would divorce him & take the kids.

@@andregreen4358Sorry, I was just under the impression a lot of people don't like her.
I remember "Debra is always dissing Ray" was something a lot of people voted for on the Jump the Shark website back in the day.
But, I do get that Ray's parents are a big part of the problem. To say they're toxic would be like saying a meltdown is toxic. They're more then a bit beyond toxic. I'm surprised they can use silverware given what monsters they are.

Debra is a hateful character because she’s abusive, controlling, and never admits when she’s wrong. It was her choice to live across the street from Rays parents, despite his warnings, and she constantly acts like she’s the victim of circumstance, she got fired at her part-time job on her first day because her boss didn’t like the idea for a pizza endorsement and she argued back about how her idea was great, she made a deal with Ray that if one of them ran late on a night out, they would get left behind and then plots revenge when she falls victim to her own idea. You’re not wrong about Ray being a horrible husband, but she is a toxic wife because she has too high of an opinion of herself.

I cannot watch this show .....it makes me crazy angry ....he has to/ gets to golf, travel ,Being " mommys spoiled special boy" and leave her to take care of everything ( no travel / getaways etc) and even justifies leaving her home because of "AIITS" on one of the VERY FEW nights she MIght get out of house while she has a curling iron caught in her hair.....she does 95% of the kids stuff while dealing with an invasive , rude , MIL from hell ...who have say in HER home .....I know a lot of people think it is "cute"/relatable ? But if any of my daughters were in this situation? I would probably be in prison .....he is a childish ahole who is whiny and bitchy whenever he has to "babysit " (UGGGHH) his kids ...and jealous because his brother does not see it as a CHORE ...with a controlling , abusive , embarrassing family ( Robert? would be ok if he did not constantly moan and submit to same said prior) It is study in teaching our daughters what NOT to accept ....it actually bothers me that people admired this situation.....and there were 3 of these shows- Still Standing, King of Queens and this - with man children as spouses ....it is NOT "adorable" and should not be relatable ....so very glad our society outgrew adolescent , self centered parenting

They adores each other. It is no doubt that Ray and Debra both had their struggles in the marriage which doesn't help with Ray's parents living so close by and always coming over. However one also have to remember that they also had their sweet moments. Their relationship isn't as bad as some people makes it sound as.
Ray have shown several times throughout the show to be comfortable in showing deep emotions or telling his wife some personal childhood stories that he doesn't usually do with others. He also got rid of his old childhood car just because it made Debra uncomfortable, reassures her that the babysitter wouldn't replaced the kids' love for her, got her job back after she got fired on her first day after initially being unsupported (which even Debra herself admits was very sweet even if she didn't takes the job back out of ashamed), set up an vow renewal on his own to makes up for taping over the wedding video, have shown times to care what Debra think of him, fought Frank to have Debra's initial house color for her, admits in front of all Robert's wedding guests that he still considers his wife to be the most beautiful girl in the world and wrote a touching letter in his newspaper column to makes up for forgetting to thanks Debra in his speech. Throughout the series Ray often takes the time to comes up with ton of creative or unusual nicknames for Debra. The fact that she barely bats her eyes over this show that she is used to this. He also is shown to occasionally to still be capable of making her laugh.
Meanwhile throughout the entire series Debra puts up with her in laws' antics for the sake of her love for her husband. She also often serves as her husband's confidant, is supportive of Ray's job even if he have to travel often, worries if their marriage is strong enough after her parents divorces each other and have times tries to convinces Ray to not let his parents get under his skin. She's a good wife. It is also shown that both are boring people who are all right with simply watching tv or going to the occasional movies or dinner together. The series finale especially show that Debra would in fact be an complete wreck without Ray being with her and no doubt he would be the same with her.
An minor sweet thing but while Ray and Debra may bickers often the one thing that they have always been in total agreement is that they are very careful in making sure that their kids don't get involves in the family arguments. It can be implies that on some level Ray is mindful enough to not want his kids to experiences the same thing he and Robert went through during their childhood. Also, we do need to remember that the show is showing their worst days because that what makes it interesting and funny. They had to have ton of good times together if the long-lived marriage is still going on strong underneath all the bickering. Ray do a good job in providing for his family and he is more involves with the kids than what is shown. Debra have made comments few times that she does in fact consider Ray to be a good husband and her biggest fear is losing him. He always comes home to her even if things are crazy around the house with the family. Lot of the times the fights are due to stress, annoyance or the heat of the moment. Their actual everyday relationship is probably more tame than what is shown. They get on each other nerves but there also nobody else than they rather be with. They're comfortable with each other and are able to get by the trials in the marriage. Isn't that what makes a marriage successful at the end of the day?
I think it is worth mentioning that as much as Ray can be frustrating at times or lazy about household chores, he is no idiot. He know what is going on with the family situation and is kinda in a hard place. He knows that his parents are nuts and difficult people and he know that mom isn't doing much favors for his wife. That is the love of his life and the mother of their children. Yet at the same time he still cares for his parents deep down meaning banning them permanently is out of the question. The thing is Frank and Marie are going to do what they want to do and Ray can't do much about their behavior. He and Debra just have to deal with it for the better or the worse. What he does do is show Debra that he loves her in other ways that may be small but probably actually means lot to her. Debra do recognizes this which is why she never left. She knows she got a good if bit imperfect husband who she loves dearly. She is truly Ray's light in this crazy family because she stuck around.
I also just realized that Ray himself actually was nowhere near as critical about Debra's job as a housewife as Marie was. Sure he may makes few jabs once in a while about her cooking (due to being spoiled rotted with perfection food while growing up) but outside of that he didn't seem to think she was even doing a bad job. He couldn't cares less if the house was a bit messy (which is honestly expected considering that they had three young kids running around the house, especially in the early seasons) instead of spotless. Also, outside of questioning few choices or opinions, he also seem normally confident that Debra is a good mother. He knows that she got her hands full with the kids and his parents while he is at work. He doesn't really expects her to be exactly like Marie in the role. He even tried to tell Marie that the family was doing fine when she made it sounds like they were living in such a horrible way in "Win Lose or Draw" which she did not listen. He flat out said in "Wallpapers" that he doesn't feels that Marie will listen to him which is the actual main reason why he doesn't wastes his breath with her. Sure, he may enjoys the attention and coddling on some level but he does know how she is. Selective obliviousness. Marie sees what she want to see which what makes it so frustrating to the rest of the family. She is so wrapped up in the image of Ray always needing her and that she is the only one who capable of taking care of him that the very idea that Ray himself may not want her over all of the time is practically foreign to her.
Ray and Debra aren't perfect or doing huge things for each other but you can still tell that they loves each other through little things. They takes the bad along with the good with each other. For Ray, could he stands his ground more and pick up more of a fight with his parents? Yeah. But if this been going on for years with little results then you do need to choose your battles. Could he tries to set up some kind of boundaries with his parents? Sure but who knows if they'll listen or actually follows through it. Could he tries to lighten Debra's load and stand up for her more? Yeah but honestly he can't do much about at least the parents' situation since they are going to do what they want to do. They just have to deal with the situation. As for Debra, could she be more understanding that Ray is in a hard place with his parents? Of course. Could she not focus on the little mistakes that he makes as much? Of course. Could she handles her emotions better? Of course. That is the point. They are real humans with flaws. They don't makes all of the right choices. They don't always appreciates the little things in life. They don't always say the right things. They can get bit nuts about few petty things. The show is a over dramatic about real situations that the writers had with their own families. It doesn't means that they don't loves them. So, it is not unreasonable to think that we're just seeing Ray and Debra at their worst on the bad days. The show would be pretty boring if they are always so loving and understanding with one another. Instead of focusing on the negatives why don't you look at this as inspiring and positive? Why not say wow, these two went through lot yet are still happily married at the end of the day?
