Late 1990's/early 2000's: Dionysus, Freedom Call, Oratory, Beholder, Secret Sphere, Highlord, Kaledon, Crystal Eyes, Edenbridge, Nightwish, Morifade, Dark Moor, Sonata Arctica, Forgotten Tales, Full Strike, Power Symphony, Rhapsody, Stratovarius, Hammerfall, Luca Turilli, Burning Point, Iron Savior, Falconer, Blind Guardian, Power Quest, Dragonforce, The Storyteller, Tyr, Edguy, Thy Majestie, Nightscape....all this Euro-metal coming from the late 1990's/early 2000's was a breath of fresh air coming out of the dark days of the 1990's. It was like the rebirth of heavy metal. This kind of music was mainly unknown in America back then. The internet was starting to come on, and if it wasn't for the internet, I would not have known about this rebirth of metal. Euro-metal bands found it hard to tour in the US back then, except for a few like Hammerfall and Blind Guardian, who I saw in 2002. I know Blind Guardian and Stratovarius came before the late 1990's, but I mentioned them since they were so important to this movement.

Shame these guys broke up but if you like Dionysus check out the bands Saint Deamon and Symphonity. The latter has Olaf Hayer on vocals and sounds VERY similar to Dionysus. :)
