What a great review man. Really enjoyed watching this. It goes beyond talking about the basics yet doing this without being boring and is just so clean. Watched your other videos as well and really have to say that your channel is really underrated. Hope you upload more in the future. Keep on going man, new subscriber here.
Thank you so much Ben! It honestly means a lot to hear this feedback because it's a long process before hitting that upload button, something I'm seeing now that I'm trying to upload more consistently. But the community here on UA-cam is unlike any other. So nice to be able to easily find other people who are into the same things as me. Thanks for the sub, you got a new one too, love your work.
Great vid. Very informative on the functions and abilities of the gimbal. You obviously put a lot of effort into the production too. I hope you have success with your channel, your presentation is far better than many other tech reviewers that have a lot more subscribers.
I do lots of research on UA-cam because I am in the very near future, in the market for a gimbal. Your video was a huge part of my deciding factor! Thank you! Amazing
Great video, thank you very much, Jonathan. Just bought the M2 and excited to test it out. You've got a new subscriber from Germany! Stay safe and keep up the good work!
Very nicely done! I have the same set-up and was thinking of doing a video on it - but don't think I'd be able to match the style of yours - also really like the way you caption. That USB - USB cable - do you simply plug it in and it automatically charges the camera? Does it allow starting the video from the gimbal and maybe zoom function as well? Good luck with your channel - looks to me as you're a natural - like the way you feature your lady.
Wow thank you very much Paul. For the cable, yes it is simply plug and play for the charging as long as the gimbal is on. One thing to keep in mind is that when shooting in 4K the RX will drain faster than it charges using this setup, so you'll still likely need a back up battery but you won't have to charge it as much. It does drain the gimbal power too, but I was recently able to do a full day at the theme park changing the RX battery once and running the M2 to 0% by the end of the day. That's where having a replaceable M2 battery would come in handy. :/ Anyways, thanks again for the support!
Oh and to the other question, no it doesn't allow starting the video and zoom function unfortunately! That was a feature I was hoping for as well but you still have to do the wifi thing for that. Seems to be only power delivery from my tests.
Does the micro USB to micro USB cable also allow you to control the camera? Such as using the record, and zoom buttons on the gimbal. Great video by the way! Thank you for the info!
Hey Jonathon, I use this gimbal with the canon M50 and the 20mm f.2 and you are spot on about the light weight allowing you to get more creative. You did a great job. Thanks for covering everything, including the ‘portrait’ mode. All the best. Doug
Very impressed with your review bro! Your footage and movements with the rx100 m5 looked amazing. I've been using the Crane m2 with an a6400, but I think I prefer to use it with a smaller camera such as the RX. Subscribed, looking forward to more content from you.
Thank you so much! Yeah, it's really nice with the tiny RX, seems to be a perfect pair. I'd love to try it with a bigger setup but all of my lens combos with the A7iii are too heavy. The new Weebill S looks cool for that though. Lol, too many toys to try. Thanks again for the support!
@@JonathanJacobsMakesVideos Yeah man, I say you just buy a Weebill S already so you can review it and tell me if I need one too. That Ronin is too big and heavy anyways ;p Good luck on the new channel!
Hi Jonathan, Great review. I was interested in buying the micro USB to USB cable to attach the camera to the gimbal arm to charge it on the fly. Looking on Ebay/Amazon, there are so many cables to choose from eg right angle, left angle, up angle etc all with different form factors and cable lengths. Could you give a link to a suitable cable that would fit for a small camera like the RX100V or LX15? Thanks in advance
Great video!! So if using it with the G7x can you use that microphone port on the gimbal and it'll work? since the G7x does not have any place for a microphone.
Great review and explanation of the various modes. I had been stuck in the default PF mode and not really ventured out of it. Also didn't know that the USB port on the gimbal arm could be used to charge the camera battery. Although not sure my Panasonic LX15 camera will allow simultaneous charging and filming. Will have to check it out. When I first got it, the gimbal had a slight roll to the right (the horizon wasn't level) which I couldn't get rid of even by recalibrating. Don't know if you encountered anything similar? Thought I had a faulty unit. In the end, I seem to have got rid of it using the Zhiyun Gimbal Tools v1.3.5 software which has a Level Trim option which allows for adjustment of the Roll value to get a level horizon.
i learned about the go and vortex modes from watching your video, thanks. I love my crane m2. I can fit my phone, gopro 9 and Olympus em-10 on this gimbal
Beautiful video. Small question, did you use a color profile on the cam or did you use a lut in post production? For example at minute 1.24 I really like colors, how did you do it?
Thank you! For the RX footage I use a Picture Profile in camera. It’s Cine2 but in Rec709, detail dropped all the down and blacks dropped down to taste.
@@JonathanJacobsMakesVideos My english being a little rusty. Can you send me screenshots of your color profile settings? I really like how you record, I would like to do like you. This is my email mjl79@libero.it thanks
Thanks so much! No LUTs on this one, but I would say experimenting with the picture profile settings on the camera is actually more important, at least for me.
Liked! Nice video Jonathan. I have the same setup as yours (Crane M2 + RX100VA). I'm also planning to buy a microusb to microusb cable. Is that from Cable Creations? How's the stiffness of the cable? I'm just worried that it might be a bit stiff and tugs on the RX100 and affects the performance of the gimbal. Any negative effects brought about by using that cable? Does it significantly affect the battery life of the gimbal?
Hey Joselito! The cable is actually pretty flexible. Not the thinnest cable I've had but it feels like a silicone. It definitely does drain the gimbal battery a lot faster. It's a useable solution, but like I mentioned, removable batteries on crane would have been perfect.
Great review!! In follow mode you can set the intensitive of the moment? Like for example you move fast but it follows a lil more slow than your actual movement? Thanks
If you had a choice and you already have a crane M2 gimbal....Would you purchase the Zv1 or would you purchase a larger gimbal Weebill S or Ronin SC to use with Canon and Nikon mirrorless cameras?
great review! thanks, i have and use my M2 with Sony a6100 and kit 16/50 lens and works great. 2 things i need and want! 1- how to set up my iphone 7 to follow me with the zhiyun app? they apparently working but fail to follow me and falls down everytime :( 2- (and that one is really possible and easy software side) being possible to make a trajectory to program 3 points (scenes) and set the time on the app, to make the move bettween points.... wouldnt de possible to program 3 or 4 fixed points (scenes) and get 3 or 4 buttons (touchs in the phone or ipad screen) to go to one or another freely? thats a game changer!!!
Hmmm, I usually use this with the RX100 rather than the phone so I'm sorry I can't help as much as I wish I could. I hope you're able to figure it out though!
I got one the other week and I'm thinking of sending it back. I couldn't get on with it at all. I had intended to make a video review about it, but didn't even like it enough to do that. Your sample results look pretty good. I might take another look at it before I send it back, but I had hoped to use it with my Canon M50 (nope, not really suitable for that). I've got the Weebill S coming instead, which will cope with a bigger payload.
mygoodstuffreviewed yeah it sounds like it might be at the weight capacity with the M50 depending on what lenses you’re using. The Weebill should definitely be enough though, I’ve seen some really heavy setups running on that one.
@@JonathanJacobsMakesVideos I've just tried the M2 with my Sony A6300 and kit lens and it balances and seems to perform fine with that - including the vortex roll. I don't think I'd really use that very often, but it's a cool effect. I need to play around with this M2 a bit more before I make a final decision whether to return it. I have a few more days left to do so. Only problem we have in the UK is the awful weather at the moment - I'm not taking my cameras out in this!
Hey Saswata! If you have a light and small lens for the a6400 such as the kit lens or a pancake lens this solution should work great. Anything heavier though and I would say to go with a slightly bigger gimbal. For the Hero the built in stabilization should cover your basic movements, but if you are doing a lot of walking shots you may see a bit of improvement using this gimbal.
Aldo Amine max payload on this is 720 grams, and the A7iii is 650 grams body only, so if you could find a REAAAALLLY light lens it might work. For example, the Sony 16mm 2.8 pancake lens is only 74 grams so that puts you at only 4 grams over. But that one is a crop sensor lens so you would have to be recording in APS C mode. So it would put you at 24mm basically which actually isn’t bad for gimbal work. If I can get my hands on that lens I’ll try it out.
