3 piece bands are unique in themselves. Their chemistry is always special and none of the musicians can hide behind anything or anyone. The Police without a doubt are one of those bands.
Stewart Copeland is undoubtedly one of the greatest drummers alive right now. He is extremely versatile, fast, and his playing is some of the cleanest I've ever heard. Sting is overrated as a vocalist though in my opinion...he really is not that impressive live. His instrumental he is the opposite...underrated, extremely. there will never be a band quite like The Police again IMO.
Sorry but Sting is one of the best singers ever. When you see him right in front of you hitting these really powerful and high notes, and holding them for like 16 bars it's unbelievable man.
I'll meet you halfway on Sting's vocals. His voice is crap but pre-90s Sting had a voice that was unworldly. Name another high tenor who clearly sounded that masculine while hitting those "Roxanne" notes.
I love the Police so much, but man Andy needed to dust off his fingers and his old pedals! I guess he was trying to make a point in playing without them, but man, that IS the Police sound using those effects so tastefully. Andy is the master of that, something which he should never shy away from. You don't see the Edge playing Streets Have No Name without delay lol! Andy rectified all this on the reunion tour for sure...
The great jazz drummers, from Max Roach to Roy Haynes, Billy Higgins to Elvin Jones, are hard to compare with, but Stewart Copeland is indeed the most interesting and exciting drummer rock and roll has ever had. Can't wait to hear more of him on the 2007 tour.
I do love the way Andy plays guitar on this song and on Every breathe... In fact, I will love to heard him played on the World Tour as he played here... It´s like more, relaxed.
Thank you lazer, I agree. Steward Copeland (Police's drummer) started the band and wrote many of their earliest songs (few get the airplay they deserve). Stewart wanted them to go punk but Sting wanted to do love songs, so that creative tension was what made the band great
Too bad they didn't reunite sooner, like at this time. Amazing how a few years can age a person (they reunited in 2007, 4 years later), they are so much better here. In 2003, Stewert's playing is on fire. There's still that manic energy whereas, 4 years later, you can tell, there was a slight difference, even in Sting's voice.
@@geoffreyfolkerth1829Yes tame indeed, and even "jazzy" or adult contemporary at points. Plus they should've taken out some background singers on tour with them along with even a keyboardist. It would've added dimension tot he songs and some added "umph" to the tour. But their egos determined to do it alone. Stew's back injury towards the end kind of reminded them of their age and limitations. Altho "wrapped around your Finger" sounded great b/c it is a song that can get away with that "adult contemporary" approach or uplift, whereas earlier Police songs can't.
I heard someone say that the Police played "fizzy" rock--(for non US Americans, that's the carbonation in a drink); Stewart is the "fizz" Nothing Sting has done on his own (though perhaps fine on its own merits) has the tingle of the Police.
They're one of my favorite bands. The performance wasn't shabby. It's funny that some of the bands that get inducted has their worst performance at the award night. Ha-ha! (Check out when Van Halen was inducted)
sting wrote songs that stewart and andy made classics. sting has made no secret he used both to get to the top and then dropped them at the height of their success. i think stewart and andy are now using sting...
Coppeland is very good drummer but sometimes he Plays too wrong just too makes Sting angry ( begining of the song) , without Sting , police couldn't exist , 90% of songs were written by Sting.
I cannot imagine this group without Mr. Copeland. He's that major.
I can´t imagine this group without any of them!
I put him up there with Neil without hesitation
As per usual, Stings like, "for fuck sake Stewart slow the fuck down" 🤣🤣🤣

One of the greatest bands of all time...the best the 80's had to offer, imo!
Copeland is a beast.
Perfect mix of American angst and British charm...best band EVER!
Can you imagine how good Copeland was when he was 28?.. lol.. I don't have to, I was there.. Best I've ever seen, and I've seen em all..
I have seen both The Police and U2 in concert a number of times each -- and The Police are a far superior band in concert -- not even close
Absolutely.
The song was recorded inside of a bottle too.

there has never or never will be 3 guys born to play together like these 3. unreal how they play off each other so much.

Years passed and this performance sounds like today. Regards from Lima Perú 👊💥🎶🎵

Mi grupo favorito

fookin brilliant. Puts me right back at the picnics.
Stewart Copeland is the best drummer in the whole world. Official.
Yes ...for ever
The Best!
true singers.
Ha ha Stewart not giving a shit , I'm sure he is playing with as many fills as he can to piss off sting .
Paul Wilkinson funny
Alcohol? Also 'enthusiasm' :D
🤣🤣🤣
Stewart Copeland rules
theyre minimalist (the opposite of metal)
less is more. . the drummer and guitarist know when to turn it down and when NOT to play

Andy needs to smash that guitar. Who set him up?
Andy needs to pull a Pete Townshend, Should've used his Tele
Stewart Copeland….too damn cool!
Sting must’ve probably been so annoyed with Stewart here
sting wrote songs that stewart and andy made classics. sting has made no secret he used both to get to the top and then dropped them at the height of their success. i think stewart and andy are now using sting...
"Stewart's" guitar? Maybe if he had one... =)
Cope land and peat......greatest ever
Andy’s guitar sounds terrible. And the backing singers are hardly audible( if unnecessary..)
dear god sting. his proformance is so varried here, in sounds great in places, but stinks the house out in others, his vocals arnt his best ether.
They shoulda had a little more practice for this event and wish the guitar had some flange too..
i agree sting sounds better with stewart
Scrappy. But brilliant

Elvis Costello was right
omg love the police but this prestation is just horrible instead of the 2007/2008 tour...
My band has done far worse
🤣🤣🤣
Mine also, haha
Not their best performance
Sound sucks... Faaaaaaaar from 80s...
The worst moment of the police!!!
...and Stewart still killed it!!!!
Horrible version ...
Drummer is over playing... wow Stewart Copeland owns you.. you know nothign about stage presence....
