The palm test works but only if the fish tightens up to the lead with a short hook length, balanced baits or pop ups act differently usually the palm test for me is for using bottom baits or short rigs

Or you could save time and steam the shrink tubing properly in the beginning to create a kicker. That shrink tubing isn’t going anything

The "T" or "footrest" described above the hook, is an old technique used by eel anglers to avoid deep hooking.
People won't use it for about 10 /15 years . Franks ahead of his time .
