    This video was a lot of fun to make. Believe it or not, this video took me weeks to make! There was so much going on last year, I was only able to work on this video (and others) a little bit at a time. Thankfully, I found more time and was able to complete this and hopefully, finish a few others in the pipeline, as well.
    I hope you enjoyed this video and I’ll see you soon! Take care, Solo Knights!

    Great vid once again SBGK. I have just started collecting some paints, washes, brushes and all that goes along with painting miniatures... I'm practicing on as couple of generic miniatures but once I am ready to proceed my aim is to paint my entire collection of Journeys in Middle Earth.. it's going to be a big task because I too have everything for the game including all the mini expansions. Thanks again for the content SBGK, hope you're well :)

      Thanks! Good luck! I’m sure it’s going to look awesome painted! I had a bad experience while priming my Imperial Assault minis. Four of them ended up getting these bumps all over them.
      Once I’m done painting them, I’ll try Etherfields. I have a second copy so it won’t hurt me if I mess them up. Your Journeys In Middle-Earth is going to look epic painted!

      Glorious gray blobs! Actually, I am painting some. Although not shown here, I began painting my Imperial Assault minis. Honestly, I’ve been struggling. First of all, I ran into an issue priming some. Bubbles showed up on about 6 of the minis. Figured it out but too late. Also, time constraints. This year has been pretty busy and I’ve barely had time to attend to my channel. Not enough time in the day.

      Thank you, Chris! Til this day, I regret not having bought that Aliens game. Such a bad decision on my part. The closest I’ve gotten to DND is Bardsung (from what I’ve been told/read). DND is always something I wish I could find a group to play with. Your list is pretty great, too!

      @@SoloBoardGamingKnight I've played the D&D 5e role playing game, but I also own some of the board games such as Castle Ravenloft, Temple of Elemental Evil, and The Legend of Drizzt--I bought them to paint the minis for fun, but the games are about 15 to 20 minutes solo, depending on the scenario--dice rolling, a level up, and mixing of unique characters for fighting monsters in dungeons make for a light game day!

      @@SoloBoardGamingKnight I received a VR headset with some videos. Virtual Reality is mindblowing, but can cause motion sickness. My family is stuck on the idea that board games are boring--they're all into video games, so I buy my own games. For Christmas, I bought myself The Walking Dead: No Sanctuary (found the standee version for $13), Star Wars Villainous, Legendary Big Trouble In Little China, and Elder Sign Unseen Forces Expansion. The best game I have enjoyed from the D&D bosrd games is Legend of Drizzt about the elves who live in the dark underground, and the Drow minis are wicked cool!

      I'm working on a homebrew that fixes many of Bardsung's issues. Attributes do more than just add to attacks and checks, chapters are shorter but tougher, printable tiles with much clearer zone layouts, more balanced consumables, etc. You should also be able to make your own scenarios and share them with others in print and play form.

      @@ObsidianKnight90 That’s awesome that you’re trying to change the game up for those playing Bardsung! The grind doesn’t bother me too much because I take my time with the games I play. However, it is possible that I haven’t played the game far enough to notice. So far, I find it enjoyable but I can see how playing the game back-to-back may cause an issue.

      @SoloBoardGamingKnight  Рік тому +1

      Yes. However, I started with Imperial Assault and I ran into a few issues. First, when I primed them, some minis ended up getting little bumps all over it. That made it really tough to paint them. Thankfully, that only happened to 4 of the minis.
      Second, I bit off more than I could chew. I started my entire collection of Imperial Assualt (a lot of minis) and time hasn’t been on my side the past year. Once I finish those, I’ll start with Etherfields. I happen to have to copies of Etherfields so I won’t feel too bad if I mess one up.
      I want Townsfold Tussle! I love the art, as well! It only that, the game looks like a lot of fun! I’ve looked all over for it but haven’t found a copy.

  • @Biodelic

    The Etherfields miniatures are truely top tier. Together with the ISS Vanguard and the S.H.E.O.L miniatures, they make the top tier for me personally. The Solomon Kane miniatures are not as unique as the top tier ones, but the quality and the sheer broad spectrum they cover is also fantastic.
    Honorable mentions would be Cthulu: Death May Die and Blackstone Fortress.
    So far, I have never played a Zombicide game and never really had contact with the minis. This video reminded me of that being on my 2023 "to do" list.
    Edit: If you want to add a mass of awesome Orc and Orc affiliate minis together with a fun game to your collection, check out OrcQuest WarPath: Resurrection on Kickstarter. Top price for a massive package.
    Edit 2: As an extra honorable mentioning, the minis for Chronicles of Drunagor.

      @SoloBoardGamingKnight  Рік тому +1

      I’m going to be honest with you, every game you mentioned looks outstanding! From ISS to Solomon Kane (which has an enormous box) and CDMD, all of those minis look phenomenal. Just now, I received a comment from Boards and Stuff and he mentioned Oathsworn which is another great looking game with outstanding minis. I told myself that I was going to hold off until next month to pledge but I just couldn’t wait!
      I don’t know if it’s just me but ever since I started this hobby, games have only gotten better and better. Not only in the looks department (like minis) but in the gameplay department, as well. I think we are witnessing an evolution in board games right before our very eyes! Now, I may be wrong. I’m just comparing the games I was looking into when I first started this hobby about 3 years ago to now. In that short timeframe. There have been leaps made in the board gaming landscape. I just hope that the momentum keeps building and that it doesn’t grow stagnant. Video games, I’m looking at you!

    • @Biodelic
      @Biodelic Рік тому

      @@SoloBoardGamingKnight I don't and won't talk about Oathsworn miniatures, simply because the majority of them are supposed to be a mystery and I wouldn't want to ruin it for anyone that hasn't played and discovered them yet themselves. There is a relevant discussion there, on miniatures and design, quality and relevance, but it is for a later time.
      My experience with the quality of board games is that of a scissor, aside from some disturbing trends, like table space requirements and crowd funding shenanigans, that can be found in both camps. The "good ones" are increasingly advancing on that path outward but on the other side, there is an enormous amount of bland, unrefined and mechanically underwhelming games manifesting at the same time. They might not necessarily be "bad" but they show a trend in that direction when compared to the advanced made by the other side.
      There is also the phenomenon of how hard it has become to engage in a level headed but critical conversation on games that cost several hundred $/€ a pop. People tend to defend their investments with a ruthless passion and blindness for deficits.

    Tough to beat CMON minis outside of anything from like Games Workshop.
    I picked up the retail version with Marvel Zombies Heroes Resistance but I might track down some KS boxes. I do like the zombies as standees.
    In general, I'm going away from minis heavy games but I do like when a thematic crawler game has hero minis and standees/meeples/tokens for villains.
    I'll go one on the opposing side and say the minis in Destinies are the worst in my opinion. I don't even use them as the app tracks everything outside of the cards/die rolls. I also really find the game to be boring even as someone that enjoys game books/choose your own adventure narratives, it is just bland to me.

    • @SoloBoardGamingKnight
      @SoloBoardGamingKnight  Рік тому +2

      Now that you mentioned Destinies, I played Chronicles of Time (same developer) and I had a similar experience with the story side of it. There are aspects that are done well gameplay-wise and others that felt very unfulfilling. The fact that you don’t need to even use the minis while playing Destinies really says a lot about that game. That is too much app assistance.
      I don’t own many CMON games but they have earned my respect when it comes to minis. Acrylic standees also tend to look really nice. One of my upcoming videos will be about ETSY Upgrades and I think you’ll find it somewhat interesting since you like meeples.

    It seems from your choices, that you prefer cartoonish, low quality miniatures, and yet you get to Etherfields as your 'top', suggesting that you just haven't yet experienced a lot of the miniature ranges out there today in board games.
