From my understanding the point is not to get "over" 1984. Yes perhaps everyone has forgotten and moved on, like anything else, the Holocaust, Rwanda, Haiti etc.... The purpose is to raise awareness about violence, domestic terrorism, ethnic cleansing & so on. In 1984 many Hindus and Muslims alike helped save Sikh lives, but also participated in atrocities. As a human race, should we still stand by and justify these crimes against humanity? Or stand up and prevent them from happening again?
Every community has the right to live in their own country. Even if there were "terrorists" in the Golden Temple, the army had NO right to go in there with tanks and fire on not only the "terrorists" but also innocent people. Imagine how would muslims would react if someone attacked and tore down the Mecca or how Jews would react if the Western Wall was destroyed. It's not about who's good or whose bad, it's about having the right to live the life we want without any other culture interfering.
not gotten over it, it's just been brushed under the rug in India and people don't talk about it there because they'll get in trouble for bringing it up. People in NA and the Uk talk about it because they want to government to admit it was a genocide.
@curious0knight that's where you're wrong. The point of the song is to raise awareness. More than half the people in India do t even know what happend in 84. You ask a youth of India, he wouldn't know anything about the genocide. and that is because of the government. That's why Sikhs in NA and UK are speaking their voice, because they know more about the situation. As for you saying it wasn't the government, do some more research its pretty clear some of the stuff doesn't add up.
This case was no different than that of the Nazis and the Jews, in this case the government- mostly consisted of Hindus, attacked and attempted to end the race of Punjabi's. If what you are saying is supposedly correct, than why are we still learning about the Nazi's in school, should that also not be eliminated from our views- the point is the government still never justified their reasoning for the attacks and we still never got an apology for this.
As a Sikh myself, i disagree with your view that homosexuality is a sin. I know that Kaam is a sin but if u translate 'kaam' to English it means Sexual desire or Lust. Being a homesexual doesnt mean you have sexual desire for the same sex. Can you not love someone from the same sex but abstain from sexual desire or lust for them?
They may all sound the same, but so they sing about the same thing? Hip Hop these days is all about how much money they have and the amount of cars they have or even that they had sex last week. Humble doesn't do that, he raps about real stuff! 1984 is a very sad year for Sikhs. They are singing about it. Alright, get off youtube and YOU go make a career. FOOL
