    When Die Another Day came out, I was working in an office in Times Square. There was some promotional stuff going on for Omega, and they had blocked off an area for some props from a few of the movies (a speed boat, a car, etc), and a stage. Pierce Brosnan was eventually introduced to the crowd. After a few minutes of light conversation with a guy behind the mic, Brosnan was presented with a specially branded Die Another Day Seamaster. He looked at it and said "oh, great, just what I needed. Another watch" and chucked it into the audience.

    I actually once talked to someone at Omega about the train scene in Casino Royale. He told that when they watched it at the premiere, they cringed and were extremely nervous because they didn’t know about this scene and they were convinced that Rolex would react badly. But in fact, neither brands had control over the movie as long as the physical watch wasn’t shown so it was all good in the end. I just thought it was a funny anecdote.
    Good video btw 😉

    I have to admit I'm a real watch stalker when it comes to movies, not Just JB but also Panarei in The Transporter and Expendables, Hamilton in Interstellar, TAG Heuer in Jason Bourne and on and on. For James Band being a former Navy Commander I think the obvious choice of a Diver is quite fitting. And i really liked the idea behind Omegas The Commander's Watch Seamaster. For now, Omega is a really fitting choice for Bond.

    My favorite is still the Rolex Sub. Some Bond Geek trivia - Ian Fleming during WW II was part of the creation of a British Commando Unit called the 30th Assault Unit (30th AU). A Royal Navy and Marine unit created for intelligence collection. One of the primary skills for this unit was scuba diving which was considered cutting edge warfare at that time. This served as an inspiration for many of the early Bond films. Well done video with some unique and lesser known, Bond watches!

      And so odd that the striped nato strap is far too narrow for the lug width. Rumor is the steel bracelet failed or didn’t fit Connery and a crew member had the nylon strap available.

    In the first picture of Daniel Craig (also the first as James Bond himself in Casio Royale), he was actually still wearing a blue Seamaster but different from Pierce Brosnan. It was upgraded with the first of the Co-Axial movements and applied indices. The 2220.80. The less popular but better version in my opinion.

  • @arghjayem
    @arghjayem 4 роки тому +13

    Some other things you might have mentioned concerning Bond watches in this video:
    1. In the second novel Bond is said to wear a non existent “Rolex Oyster Perpetual” watch a steel sports watch, although most tend to think that Bond wears a 1016 Explorer, as Fleming himself wore one (Bond being essentially an idealised fantasy version of Fleming himself having served in the Royal Navy and as an Intelligence officer during the war).
    2. The choice of a Rolex Submariner is apt as Bond is meant to have served in the Royal Navy as a commander prior to joint MI6, and Rolex Submariners were issued to Royal Navy Officers during the time of the publication of the books.
    3. In order to get a dive watch for the scenes in Dr.No, as the crew evidently forgot one for the scenes, Connery ended up using what is either Albert Broccolli’s, Director Terrence Young’s watch or possibly a member of the film crew’s watch who was a former navy diver.
    4. The original “Bond” nato as seen in Goldfinger is black with two large green stripes each flanked by thin red stripes. And the reason for the new Bond nato on the Omega watches in the Daniel Craig are black with two large silvery grey stripes, is that the new nato design was based on a bad copy of the Goldfinger film, so bad you could only make out the larger stripes and not the true colours. And if you want to get really specific the strap in Goldfinger is technically a not a Nato strap as they weren’t introduced till the early 70s. What he was wearing was a US military nylon strap, with nylon loops. More like a Zulu strap than a nato strap.

    • @chadbailey7038

    Growing up in the Craig era of Bond, I wanted an Omega in no small part because of the 007 influence. Craig's Bond made me go back and watch the entire Bond series from #1. My watch tastes have certainly changed since seeing Casino Royale in theatres, but I still have a sweet spot for the Seamaster from the Bond series.

      @ingvarhallstrom2306 5 років тому +1

      @@lumino8435 the franchise is full of bad lines. The worst are when they are trying to cram the title of the film into a normal conversation.
      Zorin: "What a view!"
      Mayday: "To a kill!"
      Which is especially absurd since they botched up the title in the first place. The saying goes: (From) a view (to) a kill, capturing the moment when the hunter/killer has the target in sight and going to pull the trigger.

    The Gruen Precision's last appearance in a Bond film was not You Only Live Twice, it was in Diamonds are Forever. That was Connery's personal watch that he wore in real life. Also, there were no NATO straps in 1963. The British MOD utilized one piece nylon straps for their dive watches. And it's MI-6, not M1-6.

    Hey Teddy, you missed two Seiko's worn by Roger Moore in 1983 Bond movie... Especially Seiko G757 Sports 100 (which inspired later the retro "Casio Royale" AE-1200) to be remembered... And another point.., the Original Bond Strap of mid-1960's was NOT a NATO strap (as actual G-1098 NATO strap was introduced nearly 10 years later in 1970s) The difference was in strap construction (which in the original Bond strap was mainly fabric, while G10 NATO strap had metal loops from the beginning. 2015 Spectre was first movie where Bond wore a watch with an actual NATO strap)

    production on this BOND issue. Thanks for your hard work, effort, and KNOWLEDGE!...till next time...
    Hasta la Vista.

    Roger Moore also had a Seiko Tuna. He wore two Seikos in “For you eyes only” . Really enjoyed the video.
    In my opinion James Bond still has a cool factor, wearing the same watch as a spy adds a little swagger.

    Teddy, I own the first 300m , I bought in 1999. I wore it, the most in my watch collection. I sold it, in a trade for a gold Rolex day, date. I missed the watch so much, I bought another one, and wear it to this day,but will never sell this one. My wife met pierce Bronson at Disneyland, told him about my Omega. He told her it was an Excellent time piece, and said I had great taste. But I love it more than a sub, and I will hand it down to my boys! In the watch family forever! Cheers Matt👍👍😎😎

    My favorite of the bunch has to be the Spectre. Partly because I already have a few dive watches and that one has a more distinguishable look. Plus, I like the inclusion of a 12hr bezel for a second time zone while still being usable as a timer.

    Although it’s not been worn in any of the James Bond movies, it was specially created to commemorate Omegas association with the James Bond franchise. The Omega Seamaster 300 Commander is my favourite 007 watch. It has a white face, with blue and red bezel and the 007 gun logo on the second hand; which looks very cool.

    I think the 2 most iconic watches 007 wore are the classic Submariner from Dr. No and Omega Seamaster first introduced in Golden Eye. Both, were each actor's respective 1st movie playing the 007 role. And, I think perhaps as such set into the minds of 007 fans what is the iconic 007 watch(es). There are SO many cool watches that both Bond and other characters in the 007 movies wore. I like to rewatch movies and do watch easter egg hunts since I've been more into the hobby for fun. As such, I was pleased to see 007 wore a Seiko Golden Tuna in "For Your Eyes Only". I'm still not sure which is my favorite, but in recent times, I have to admit the Spectre Omega Seamaster always stood out as a very cool and handsome watch.

    I got a Rolex Submariner when I graduated from college in 1970. It had a plastic crystal which got pretty beat up over the years. Around 14 or 15 years later a friend sold me his Rolex GMT II with the darker "Pepsi" bezel. He kept the Jubilee band so I transferred my Oyster band over with to it and it looked good. At some point I sold both Rolex's to a broker. I eventually got an Omega Seamaster 2262.50 with the black dial and the Bayonet hands. I eventually added a Speedmaster "Sapphire Sandwich". I still have them both. The Speedy pretty much stays in its box but I do take the Seamaster, on its bracelet, out on more formal occasions and have a rubber strap also that I use at times. To this day it runs at around +3 seconds every two days or so. Just a great watch.

      Then the question is: Why did Fleming wear a Rolex? The answer would seem to be that as a Times correspondent he did an interview with the famous French diver Jaques Cousteau. This was shortly after the first submariner came out. Whilst Fleming did not get a Submariner for himself (although he did get a Rolex), he knew, being a 'kit junky' that his newly created character, echoing Cousteau, would have sported the then epitome of a professional diving watch. Being a keen underwater swimmer himself, a more elegant Rolex he reserved for himself.
