Saana 1029m | Kilpisjärvi, Northern Finland | 4K

The fell, Saana, is 1029 meters high and is located in a small village at the top of Finland called Kilpisjärvi (Enontekiö municipality, Lapland).
Kilpisjärvi is very close to Sweden and Norway, and from the top of Saana you can see the village Kilpisjärvi, the great fells of Finland and the mountain peaks from Norway's side.
Several hiking trails start from the village, and the most famous one is the 8-kilometer long trail, hiking to the top of Saana and back down (it's takes about 3h). We decided to hike to the top.
We visited Kilpisjärvi in June and we thought it would be very cold that far up in the North, but we were wrong because it was a very hot and sunny summer day, probably something like +25°C. So when we went on the hike we had to wear hats to cover our heads from the sun and bring a lot of water with us. When our water ran out on the hike we filled our water with mountain water at the top, and it tasted very clean and delicious. :)
The hike to the top was a bit challenging, but it was worth it. The views were breathtaking.
This was one of my favorite hikes that I have done and I recommend it to everyone that enjoys beautiful landscapes and doesn't mind getting sweaty af ;)

Thanks for showing us Kilpisjarvi! Great to see from the air! I drove this way in May 1976 on my way to work in Tromso! I hope the roads are improved nowadays - I am sure they are!!
