glad i watched this video. just rebuilt the top end in my sons bike and its starting to have the kickstart issue, had no clue what that would be until you mentioned that 1 way bearing.

14:28 hey I didn’t notice a needle bearing for the crank like in 2strokes. Are 4 strokes different? Because the top end kit I saw online doesn’t come with one either. Appreciate this video and your time.
Outside of the counterweights is two roller bearings on the klx110 engine. The rod bearing on these is a bushing not a needle bearing and its not really servicable. Two strokes do usually use needle bearings and usually have servicable rods/cranks.
The cross headed bolts on the stator cover are not Philips… they’re JIS. This catches a lot of people out, including me 😂 I agree with ditching them though.
I feel like theres nothing really stopping you from doing that. I havent personally done it. But youd also need a timing cover, different timing chain and cam as the chain size is different between old and new style klx motors. Theres also some gearing over on starter side that you would need thats all different. At the end of the day the work/time spent vs just buying a 2010+ motor isnt worth it IMO.
At 58:00 on the left side of the crank case, what is the little black piece held in by 2 screws do? I have that on my old crank case, I got a new one and those inserts don't come threaded...

At 23:00 when u kick the bike and it doesn’t kick do u mean it is lock up or fells like it has no compression

It’s for the kick start shaft. The screws are self tapping, so transfer the piece to your new case and send ‘em home
