This really goes to show how 8 episodes just isn’t enough for this show. So many great episodes and important character development would have been skipped.
Skipping Under The Lake/Before The Flood breaks my heart but is understandable for narrative reasons. Those two episodes, though, are some of my all time favorites. Yhe Time Travel shenanigans, the Doctor giving us a quick lecture on the Bootstrap Paradox, and him playing Beethoven on the guitar. Not to mention the guitar version of his intro!
Personally I think I'd replace Smile with Thin Ice, the scene with Bill asking the Doctor if he remembered how many people he had killed is crucial to their development and the thing missing from Ncuti and Millies dynamic in series 14/season 1
I doubt I'd change much about your picks for any of the series. What's much more telling is how many brilliant stand alone episodes or two parters were cut for the shortened length. We could have had a brilliant two partner in season 1 but it wasn't to be.
The doctor falls shows that the master could not return in any other incarnation, unless their is a solid explanation as to how the Master escaped a time Loop in which the Master played key roles in Fixed points in time, that saved the Doctor's life more than once.
Series 9 being one of my all-time favorites, I have some opinions. For one, I think it would be unfortunate to cut Under the Lake/Before the Flood. That’s honestly one of those stories I point people to for a look at what Doctor Who is at its best. Also, I think instead of fusing The Girl Who Died/The Woman Who Lived into one episode, you really only need The Girl Who Died. It has the added plot importance of the Doctor’s motivation for taking his face, and it’s just way more enjoyable than The Woman Who Lived. After that, you could probably fuse The Zygon Invasion/Inversion into one episode since the story kinda drags its feet until it gets to Capaldi’s epic speech, but I could begrudgingly rationalize keeping it in its full form in place of the Lake/Flood two-parter. Then, obviously you keep the last three episodes.
@@nairrdlairrd One thing I just noticed for The Girl Who Died is that it still keeps the reference to Fires of Pompeii, which was an episode that he kept for series 4. Even with everything shortened, it's interesting that you still have the reasons for the 12th doctor choosing his face, which leads to him saving Ashildr.
I would condense the magicians apprentice/witches familiar and zygon invasion/inversion in favour of keeping under the lake/before the flood, which really only works as a 2-part story. I would also cut the woman who lived.

I suppose Clara would “leave the doctor” in the caretaker because Danny and the doctor didn’t get any respect for each other in this version of the episode, and Danny wants her to leave, which would be the reason that she is on her last hoorah in orient express. Alternatively that plot point could be dropped from the series, but her hiding her travels weaves through the last 4 episodes in this 8 part series so would be tricky to do.
Yea that was the biggest thing I was wondering. Kill the Moon is not a well loved episode but it is integral to the relationship arc for Clara and 12. If they could rework Caretaker to utilize the ideas from Kill the Moon in that regard and still have her ending seen of telling the Doctor off and leaving it would work out alright. Losing that scene is the only reason I’d hate to see Kill the Moon go.
I think I might just give how I would do this because why not: Agree with series 8 so no changes. Series 9: -keep first 4 stories so condense into one-part each, (so The Zygon Invasion/Inversion is ep 4. This leaves us with 4 episodes left which would be sleep no more then the 3-part finale. Series 10: 1. The Pilot, 2. Thin Ice, 3. Oxygen - condense monk trilogy into 2 parts, being episodes 4 and 5, 6. Empress of Mars and 7+8 are the 2-part finale. (Losing Smile, Knock Knock and The Eaters of Light)
Completely agree with this. Condensing the Zygon episodes might actually improve them. But I struggle to see how the Monk trilogy cold be condensed into 2 episodes, seeing as they are basically 3 different standalone stories. Extremis is the easiest to cut for story reasons, but it's just the best of the 3, so IMO we should for sure keep it. Maybe The Pyramid and Lie of the Land could be combined, but it would risk rushing it and reducing the impact of the land being taken over.

In series 8 I agree with you but I’d swap Listen for Kill the Moon because that episode really pushes the Doctor & Clara’s relationship to breaking point. Series 9 I’d agree with you completely. I don't think think Mummy on the Orient Express works as well without Kill the Moon as a leadin, but I would hate to waste a slot on that one. My solution would be to move Into the Dalek to the slot before Mummy. I could see the Doctor's extreme callousness in that one leading to a Kill the Moon-style blowup with Clara, better than anything he does in The Caretaker. And actually I think "you were just pretending to be heartless" in Mummy fits Into the Dalek a bit better than Kill the Moon.
The only change I’d make is turn the dalek two-parter in series 9 into a standalone and add the girl who died for some context in the woman who lived (even though those 2 are among my least favourites in the series)

Happy to lose Kill the Moon, even if I’d be gutted to not have Jenna Coleman’s performance in that final scene. I personally feel like Dark water and Death in Heaven drags as a two-parter, so I’d make it one hour long episode and keep Time Heist. Overall I’ve always found Series 8 to be just ok, and I feel like its overall quality as a run of stories isn’t really impacted much by these cuts. For series 9, condensing Ashildir’s pair of episodes into one doesn’t work for me at all. Those are two very different feeling stories in terms of tone, and smashing together into a single piece wouldn’t work. I’d sooner make the Zygon Invasion/Inversion one episode, since I think a lot of that first episode drags. I say condense the Zygon story, and while you’re at it condense the Opener, then keep the Girl Who Died/Women who Lived separate and condense Under the Lake/Before the Flood so that can be told in the leftover slot. Wouldn’t mind losing Sleep No More though. Series 10- I cannot sanction removing a story as perfect as Thin Ice, so keeping that one. I don’t care for Lie of the Land, so nix that one and find a way to satisfyingly end the story with Pyramid at the End of the World. Aside from that I can get behind the cuts here. The only issue with cutting Lie of the Land, Empress of Mars, and Eaters of Light is that we then lose all of the proper buildup to Missy’s turnaround.
For Missy's turnaround in Series 10, the stuff with her at the back-end of the series could be moved earlier. Another commenter suggested they would remove the Monk trilogy, which I think works despite those episodes being (mostly) good. All you would need to do is take the Missy stuff and put it in some earlier episodes. Maybe easier said than done, but I think it's a sound idea. Most of Missy's contributions don't _really_ tie in to the specific episodes, so I think they could be placed elsewhere quite easily.
I wonder how Missy would end up joining the Doctor in World Enough and Time. I thought there was something else that led up to that in the Eaters of Light, though I could be misremembering
Missy is in the TARDIS out of the Vault during the end of Eaters of Light, though having Lie of the Land lead into World Enough and Time would also have her still with the TARDIS team

Wouldn’t change anything at all. This is my favourite era of the show and each series does have 3-4 weak or standalone episodes so it condenses well into 8 episodes. Would love the series to continue with 13s written as 8 and maybe 2 episodes from 11 and 12 can work in 13 as standalone. Or one where if Series 14 was 13 instead of 8.
I can see it's slightly easier to cut capaldis series with a few meh episodes. I always thought empress of Mars and eaters of light were just very filler imo. If Capaldis series was cut to 10 episodes, I think his series might be a bit better paced and cut the filler

I’d keep season 8 as you put it, but Caretaker would be reworked more to include the character beats from Kill the Moon and end with Clara telling off the Doctor and leaving. Season 9 is tough. I’d keep your options but if possible I’d turn Under the Flood two parter and Zygon two parter into single episodes. Wouldn’t be as strong but both are worthy, be a shame to lose either. But given the option I’d go with Zygon since has Unit back and the speech. Series 10 I’d keep Thin Ice and get rid of Smile. I’d try to condense the Monk trilogy into a 2 parter and keep Empress of Mars. Think to do the story arc well we need one random adventure with Missy on the team between the Monk trilogy and the finale.

Interesting choice getting rid of the Monk trilogy. But I suppose it makes a lot of sense. Despite being mostly good stuff, it does take up a significant chunk of the series, 1/4. All you would need to account for is the stuff to do with Missy. I think it works. Sure, you lose some really good episodes, but the overall quality of the series doesn't suffer _too_ greatly.

I think at best you could turn it into a two-parter, but then the question is how would that look? Do you merge Pyramid and Lie? Maybe even do away with Extremis and get straight to business with the Monk's arrival? 🤔 I would've thought getting rid of Knock Knock would be easy, unless there's something significant about that episode I'm forgetting. What other episodes would you absolutely want to keep? If you make the Monk trilogy a two-parter, and assuming the two-part finale is a given, that leaves four other slots to fill. But personally, I still think your idea of just removing the Monk trilogy entirely works really well too, even if it is a shame to lose it.
Her. I've been waiting for this video to be released.… Just a couple of minutes. I just looked at the previous ones and thought. Wow, it would be great to watch the same thing, but with Peter Capaldi. And as a result, I log in to my profile and here it is! Thank you." But why the "caretaker"? Yes, he is important in the plot, but without the robbery in "Robbery in Time" he seems to lose his soul. It's the same with "Thin Ice". The first one is very good, but the second one seems to have more soul. With season 9, yes. It's still a hoax, but... I think that "The Arch of Ashilda" is just the case when one episode would be much stronger than two. And it's also amazing how the 12th Doctor suddenly looks good in an 8 episode format. It was sad to lose "Under the Lake" and "Before the Flood", but mostly the seasons even seemed to become more concentrated and strong. Now the intrigue is whether there will be a similar video for my favorite era. Although it's funny that in the 13th season there are already just 8 episodes (6 + easter + final, not counting the New Year's) and this is one of the best seasons for me…
I get that you've picked mostly the best and story arc relevant episodes, but it kind of misses the point of a time travel show, because almost all of these seasons end up being vast majority modern day earth episodes.
It's happening for a reason. Everyone else is starting to figure it out. There's a hidden message. And the 8 episodes is intentional and it isn't gonna change soon

Episode 5: Demons of The Punjab (development of Yaz further)
Episode 6: Kerblam! (First trip to future stuff, and is kinda fun)
Cut Witchfinder, Rosa is already an historical
Episode 7: It Takes You Away (Graham centric episode)
Episode 8: The Battle Of Whatever it was called (finale)
Season 12:
Episode 1&2: Spyfall Part 1 and 2 (reintroduction of the Master, crucial to the finale)
Cut Orphan 55, not enough going on to justify keeping it
Episode 3: Nikola Tesla's night of terror (really fun, and I think it should stay)
Episode 4: Fugitive of the Judoon (plot stuff)
Cut Praxeus, too many earth based, and it isn't that fun
Episode 5: Can You Hear Me? (Experimental and quality, I like it)
Episode 6, 7 & 8: Hanuting Of Villa Diodate, Ascension of The Cybermen, Timeless Child (three part finale, needed for lore stuff)
Happy to lose Kill the Moon, even if I’d be gutted to not have Jenna Coleman’s performance in that final scene.
I personally feel like Dark water and Death in Heaven drags as a two-parter, so I’d make it one hour long episode and keep Time Heist.
Overall I’ve always found Series 8 to be just ok, and I feel like its overall quality as a run of stories isn’t really impacted much by these cuts.
For series 9, condensing Ashildir’s pair of episodes into one doesn’t work for me at all. Those are two very different feeling stories in terms of tone, and smashing together into a single piece wouldn’t work. I’d sooner make the Zygon Invasion/Inversion one episode, since I think a lot of that first episode drags.
I say condense the Zygon story, and while you’re at it condense the Opener, then keep the Girl Who Died/Women who Lived separate and condense Under the Lake/Before the Flood so that can be told in the leftover slot.
Wouldn’t mind losing Sleep No More though.
Series 10- I cannot sanction removing a story as perfect as Thin Ice, so keeping that one.
I don’t care for Lie of the Land, so nix that one and find a way to satisfyingly end the story with Pyramid at the End of the World.
Aside from that I can get behind the cuts here. The only issue with cutting Lie of the Land, Empress of Mars, and Eaters of Light is that we then lose all of the proper buildup to Missy’s turnaround.
For Missy's turnaround in Series 10, the stuff with her at the back-end of the series could be moved earlier. Another commenter suggested they would remove the Monk trilogy, which I think works despite those episodes being (mostly) good. All you would need to do is take the Missy stuff and put it in some earlier episodes. Maybe easier said than done, but I think it's a sound idea. Most of Missy's contributions don't _really_ tie in to the specific episodes, so I think they could be placed elsewhere quite easily.
I wonder how Missy would end up joining the Doctor in World Enough and Time. I thought there was something else that led up to that in the Eaters of Light, though I could be misremembering
Missy is in the TARDIS out of the Vault during the end of Eaters of Light, though having Lie of the Land lead into World Enough and Time would also have her still with the TARDIS team

Wouldn’t change anything at all. This is my favourite era of the show and each series does have 3-4 weak or standalone episodes so it condenses well into 8 episodes. Would love the series to continue with 13s written as 8 and maybe 2 episodes from 11 and 12 can work in 13 as standalone. Or one where if Series 14 was 13 instead of 8.
I can see it's slightly easier to cut capaldis series with a few meh episodes. I always thought empress of Mars and eaters of light were just very filler imo. If Capaldis series was cut to 10 episodes, I think his series might be a bit better paced and cut the filler
I love how much work you’ve put into these, but the structures of these would be series from a narrative point sets my autistic brain on fire 😂 just further proof that the series’ thrive on at least 10 episodes.

I’d keep season 8 as you put it, but Caretaker would be reworked more to include the character beats from Kill the Moon and end with Clara telling off the Doctor and leaving.
Season 9 is tough. I’d keep your options but if possible I’d turn Under the Flood two parter and Zygon two parter into single episodes. Wouldn’t be as strong but both are worthy, be a shame to lose either. But given the option I’d go with Zygon since has Unit back and the speech.
Series 10 I’d keep Thin Ice and get rid of Smile. I’d try to condense the Monk trilogy into a 2 parter and keep Empress of Mars. Think to do the story arc well we need one random adventure with Missy on the team between the Monk trilogy and the finale.

Interesting choice getting rid of the Monk trilogy. But I suppose it makes a lot of sense. Despite being mostly good stuff, it does take up a significant chunk of the series, 1/4. All you would need to account for is the stuff to do with Missy. I think it works. Sure, you lose some really good episodes, but the overall quality of the series doesn't suffer _too_ greatly.
@@amazingdisgrace1684 I wanted it in but I didn’t want to also lose Thin Ice and the Eaters of Light or Empress of Mars. I tried getting read of Knock, Knock but that didn’t work. I forgot the stuff about the Missy stuff, which I’m very made that I did. But if I did what he did and slice the Monk Trilogy into one then maybe, but I made this before he did Matt and made that rule.
@@MoonlightVTOffical The Monk trilogy does make Series 10 a tricky one for sure, especially if you try keeping it in. I think at best you could turn it into a two-parter, but then the question is how would that look? Do you merge Pyramid and Lie? Maybe even do away with Extremis and get straight to business with the Monk's arrival? 🤔
I would've thought getting rid of Knock Knock would be easy, unless there's something significant about that episode I'm forgetting.
What other episodes would you absolutely want to keep? If you make the Monk trilogy a two-parter, and assuming the two-part finale is a given, that leaves four other slots to fill. But personally, I still think your idea of just removing the Monk trilogy entirely works really well too, even if it is a shame to lose it.

But why the "caretaker"? Yes, he is important in the plot, but without the robbery in "Robbery in Time" he seems to lose his soul. It's the same with "Thin Ice". The first one is very good, but the second one seems to have more soul. With season 9, yes. It's still a hoax, but... I think that "The Arch of Ashilda" is just the case when one episode would be much stronger than two.
And it's also amazing how the 12th Doctor suddenly looks good in an 8 episode format. It was sad to lose "Under the Lake" and
"Before the Flood", but mostly the seasons even seemed to become more concentrated and strong. Now the intrigue is whether there will be a similar video for my favorite era. Although it's funny that in the 13th season there are already just 8 episodes (6 + easter + final, not counting the New Year's) and this is one of the best seasons for me…
Either means that there is no money for 13 episodes, or no good stories.

I get that you've picked mostly the best and story arc relevant episodes, but it kind of misses the point of a time travel show, because almost all of these seasons end up being vast majority modern day earth episodes.
Why is this the last video why aren't you doing series 11-13
Seems silly condensing a 10 episode series into 8 episodes, then of course, Flux has 6 episodes!
