I was 11 and traveling alone from LAX to O'hare in 1969 to see my grandpa. I had just lost my father in Vietnam. I had an hour to kill before my flight and I saw Don Knotts by himself so I went up to ask for his autograph. I told him I was waiting for my flight and he asked me If I'd like to sit down at the snack bar for a doughnut and orange juice. I told him why I was traveling and he was very sympathetic. I told him I loved him in the Ghost and Mr. Chicken as well as all the Mayberry shows. He was so kind and ended up giving me his autograph on a napkin. I told my family about it and no one believed me until I showed them his autograph. He lifted my spirits and I would never forget .

The Vietnam war it close to my heart, so many of my school mates serve some made it back most did not , I cry sometimes remembering the good times.
That's a very special story and it has brightened my day just hearing it.

She's such a gifted human. Don Knott's was a true legend. Love them both!
Don Knotts was one of the funniest male Actors to ever appear on television. His character Barney Fife was a full dimensional character he fleshed out and I wish he hadn't left on his own accord after five seasons. From season 6 on the show faltered and I don't watch it after Don left. He wasn't just a joke character like the smaller ones like Gomer or Otis. His character had to carry a lot of most episodes so he had to have a full range of moods, reactions and expressions, which Barney Fife did. Barney would explode with excitement when he thought of another hair-brained idea, sulk when the idea didn't work, had a quick temper and displayed the all reactions of a very insecure man who had a job far above his real capabilities. (like present day politicians) For an Actor to show all that instead of going for laughs like so many more recent Comics-turned-Actors shows what dedication and professionalism Don put to his work while showing his humbleness while doing it.
He's a treasure for sure!

She seems like a very sweet person, and even better, she seems very real. Don must have been a very good dad for her to grow up in the environment she did and still kept her sanity, humility and genuineness.

My husband and I went to Katen's show yesterday and it is fantastic! If you can go, please do, it is a nice way to spend a couple hours to get to know Don and his family and all the behind the scenes gems that you may never had known. Karen held my attention from start to finish!
Don raised a good loving daughter.
He was such a good guy and opposite of the roles he usually played. I've heard he was a very quiet guy and very reserved.

Don Knotts helped create the greatest show ever on TV, I’ve watched the shows 100 times and will till I actually get to shake Mr, Knotts hand on the other side, might grab him and give him a big hug in Heaven😃 Thank You for sharing him with us.
