@@QueenAnne3958 MacArthur was outstanding in the role.That is not without precedent.The pilot for Leave it to Beaver had other actors play Ward and Wally.The backdoor for The Jeffersons had Kim Hamilton as Helen Willis.The backdoor pilot for Maude had Marcia Rodd play Carol,Maude's daughter.Casey Adams played Ward Cleaver in It's a Small World,the pilot for Leave it to Beaver.Carl Reiner did a Pilot called Head of the Family.The entire cast was changed and it became The Dick Van Dyke Show.

I was a huge fan from the pilot to the end of the series.The reboot was also good.James MacArthur was not in the pilot.
Nope, that was some other actor that did not test well in the pilot so they ditched him - thank goodness b/c MacArthur was perfect!
