- Originally a waltz, "Beautiful Love" was written in 1931 by Victor Young and was featured in the 1932 film, "The Mummy".
During high school, I first heard Bill Evans' recording of it played in 4/4 time signature, and it has stuck that way with me ever since.
This is my on the spot, improvised version.
Lovely! No missing the trio here-
Awesome. I'm glad you enjoy it and I appreciate the feedback.
Thanks! Being the player you are, your words mean a lot.
This is wonderful I love your work, I love the way you embellish your voicings and you swing!!!!!!!! You always know when someone swings well when your head starts to bob involuntarily!!!! Great job brother!
Nice job Chris. Beautiful. I've always loved those Bill Evans colors and you've got them down.
It is beautiful performance!
Love it 😀
I'm glad you like it - thank you.
Lovely Chris. Wish I could reach 10ths in my left hand, makes all the difference. Spreading just doesn't work. Anyway, great. Gonna listen to some more now. Keep on posting.
Thank you Alan.
And we have to give a nod to Mr. Arthur Tatum for selecting these songs in a way which inspired the next generations. Sublime.
Its hard to find solo Jazz piano performances like this . Thank you for doing this !!!
Thank you - appreciate it.
It's been 8 years no news about you. Is everything OK?
Chris, I think people would pay for your piano video tutorials. Please post! We are eager to learn. :-)
Hi Chris, I have made a new video of stride piano. I'd like to know your feeling about it...

I'm sorry Cedric, I haven't been good about checking my UA-cam messages or account over the past few years. I gave your song a listen and thought it was really, really nice!
@@ChrisDawsonMusic Thanks a lot! I have been listening to your music for years! Cedric, a big fan!
@ I also really enjoyed your Bach/Stride piece and others too (Alexander's Ragtime Band).
@@ChrisDawsonMusic Thanks!!! If you want the pdf, write me an email (cedricgranelle@live.fr)
This is wonderful Chris, 6 years on and it still deserves the occasional listen. I think it's because you've managed to not make a copy of Evans or a copy of Barron or a copy of X but instead you've made your own version, a Chris Dawson version. And luckily, that version is good! Thank you again.
And I'm still here... Your playing is so wonderful Chris.
Great improvisation; I love the tune and feel that your performance is an excellent blend of swing, harmonizations and taste.
Note a note wasted!
You would not have a transcription of this, would you?
Swing, soft, light and quiet.. so nice and well played. Many thanks Chris.
Masterful! Who did you study with?
Wonderful Performance! Also kudos to whoever tuned and voiced the piano.
Beautiful
Hi Chris, I have made a new video of stride piano. I'd like to know your feeling about it...

Wow this is really amazing I love how you jump around so much it gives off good and the short bursts of lots of short notes played together really tops it off
Chris, your posts have been on fire lately! It is such a different side of your playing. This has such emotional resonance. I really loved it.
What a fantastic mosaic of harmony, technique and musical expression. Every song played by you is always a true musical journey
Wonderful i m going to work the solo!! The piano seems very good what modele of yamaha please ? C3? THANKS
This is an amazing performance with incredible depth and clarity. Fantastic!
very dense, harmonically rich rendition! your version is an Inspiration for me to pick up the tune and work it through again.
Thanks. I'm glad you like my music.
I've got a little "to-do" list going already, but what tune are you thinking?
I really appreciate your comment (I'm a fan or your channel...great work).
Thanks.
Hey man, great feeling ;)
Thank you!
Marvelous playing and ideas!
I have come back to enjoy this several times. Have really enjoyed your style of playing since I discovered your channel several years back. Have just started to try to figure out what you do with your left hand as a start. There are 2 others on my list of left hand study which seem to be in the same field, David Newton and Rossano Sportiello, but slowly slowly.
Awesome, thanks so much. I don't know David (but will check him out) and I love Rossano. He's really great.
All the best with your playing.
Fantastic. Great playing. I'm impressed
Thanks so much Jacob. I really appreciate it.
Really nice rendition--hope to see more.
A W E S O M E !
That's nice, thanks.
Awesome! Great inspiration
Absolutely right. Thanks for reminding me about Tatum's wonderful recording of Beautiful Love.
I was actually listening to his version long before the more "modern" ones...but I haven't put it on in a while.
I appreciate it.
Thank you.
Yeah, it's hard not to be influenced by Bill Evans' recording. He's one of my very favorite players.
Beautiful
Excellent...
Wonderfull !
Hey!, this is very nice, I've had a wonderful time listening to your videos, amazing player!, do you take some requests? hehe
Wonderful !!!
really really good !! i hear some Bill Evans too ;)
Thanks Richard! Yes, Evans is one of my favorites.
Nice work! I've only just discovered you via David Sill's CD 'Blue's the New Green'- Good stuff as well. All the best! :)
So Chris...when are you going to post something up again? It has been way too long.
Great version of this, BTW. I've included it in my Beautiful Love piano collection for study.
+Steve T I've been a little 'out of it' with UA-cam, but I will be posting some new songs shortly. Glad you enjoy this clip.
This is a truly stunning rendition, thanks for posting - I realise this was 8 years ago - I wish I'd seen it 8 years ago! I'm going to try and practice a few of your ideas, if you don't mind! You're an amazing player, I hope you're still enjoying playing these days.
Hi Luke. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thank you so much for your kind message..
Appreciate it. Thanks.
Super....
Thanks!
really great, Chris.
Thanks!
This is magical
Thanks!
Very reminiscent of Evans...!
very very cool ! txs.
Very nice ...
copie of bill evans??
While I am influenced by Evans (and others) in this performance, this my own original treatment of the melody and improvisation.
