    Herbert does more with lesser than any other QB in the league. He has a bad OL, no TE, only Keenan Allen at WR. Keenan Allen is a good possession receiver, but he is one of the slowest WRs in the league who doesn't get much separation. Give him a couple of top WRs and a decent tight end as well as protection from the OL and he leads the league in every passing category. Interesting to see how he does with some younger, faster receivers, a better OL and a legitimate running game.

      @@blakecallahan1134 Statistically he wasn't bad. If you are referring to late game picks he threw, yeah, at the end of the game the QB needs to make things happen and when his OL can't block anyone and his receivers can't get open picks happen. I don't see your claim of "he was terrible last year" as valid.

      I understand the argument of the video, Herbert needs to do more with more. He did a lot with less. But QBing is complex. It's not so simple you can just say he would do as well as those guys who have more, it's no so simple to project production in a linear fashion. It's easier to wait until he has the same and does the same.

    If you get the chance to go back and watch the chargers packers game last year i highly recommend it. To me, that is the prime example of the team letting herbert down. Herbert used his legs, extended plays, threw dimes and was rewarded with drive killing drops, run game fumbles and a generationally bad game by his defense.

    This dude had never had a defense ranked higher than 26th. Numerous drops from receivers. No protection with defenders running right at him with no blockers even touching them. extreme amount of injuries on his teams. And lets not forget, he had the stupidest coach in modern football history. Not many quarterbacks could as many wins as Herbet did with the situation hes been in.

      Yah the Pats game was an extra eye opener for me (a Charger fan). The run game was so bad, the Chargers still had to throw the ball in a weather situation that should have minimized throwing. If Ezekial Elliot on the Pats had not gotten injured mid game (making Pats rely on throwing too), I am not certain Chargers would have won. Elliot was already running all over the Chargers defense.

    It’s fair to say Herbert struggles to win games, however, QB play is only 50% of the game. Herbert plays on a team that suffered from horrible defenses that struggled to keep teams outta the end zone. Compare his stats to your top 4 and then compare their defenses. It’s night and day. There is no argument here. The fact that Herbert can be voted 32 of 100 by his peers in a year he missed 4 games shows he’s top5 material. If Harbaugh can match Herbert’s production with a minimum 15th ranked defense, the chargers are playoff bound and possibly AFC champs.

    Herbert has all the tools to be one of the best and competitive QB's in the league. Through a series of unfortunate situations with coaching, personnel and injuries I don't think we've seen Herbert or the Chargers offense clicking on all cylinders. I expect that to change under the new coach as Harbaugh won't put Herbert in a situation to play hero ball all game long.

    So you filmed studied Herbert on the Pats game? In pouring weather and Chargers had one of the worst run games.
    Most passing heavy QBs do not have great rainy weather games. Even Mahomes in the super cold playoff game last was not his best performance at 56% and 1 TD. The Chiefs got a lot of YAC with Kelce and great rushing yards with Rice. That drove the offense when throwing in 0 degrees is not the best weapon. Tua and Pat's stats are not that far off for that game. Only 60 yards and completed 3 passes. The score looks very different. The score difference is the run game and YAC.

    The ultimate stat we should use is the W/L record. That said, Herbert is undefeated against both Burrow and Allen... 3-0. Not including the win in college when Herbert destroyed Allen, hanging half a hundred on Wyoming with Allen non-existent. Yes, this is sarcasm for all you geniuses who haven't realized that yet. Using that same dumb ass W/L reasoning, Dan Marino CLEARLY is overrated, and shouldn't be anywhere near the top 20 QBs of all time. Why? No Superbowl wins. But Trend Dilfer won a Superbowl... which clearly shows that he was much better than Marino.

    As the president of Tuanon I actually don't hate Herbert but he definitely is overrated. He has spectacular plays but he misses layups and frankly he has a major problem processing plays to his left side. The whole "top 5" QB thing is overplayed with him because he simply just isn't that. All the passing yard records and that is hogwash to me because nobody is throwing the ball more than he is anyway. I don't think Jim just comes in and fixes things tbh because a lot of the issues is with Herbert as a QB mentally. Kid is very smart but football wise he doesn't process things quickly enough and his anticipatory skills are lacking. He's very mobile though, whether in the pocket or out of it and his arm kinda makes up for any anticipatory skills he lacks.

    NFL network did a video recently talking about how the elite QBs had elite defenses. And herbert's defense average at 28th in the league. Not to mention his run game or his pass protection. I think the most comparable case is Joe Burrow (14th defense according to the video). While the Chargers has been a really bad organization, the Bengals has been a really mediocre one. I expect the chargers to disappoint this year as much as the average Bengals season.

    I think this is the year he has to prove it. And it could be iffy if they don't pick up an elite receiver, but I don't think at this point that is going to continue to be a viable excuse. I do think his team has let him down more often than not though. From watching a lot of Charger games I think one of his biggest problems is that he has a limited ability to put touch on the ball in intermediate routes the way that like Burrow does.

    • @Shadowangel5760
      @Shadowangel5760 7 місяців тому +2

      That's actually not true, when your defensive head coach is giving up 30 points a game every week and you expect your QB to go out and win the game for you time and time again, its going to happen. Most of those games he had them in a winning position, the defense gave up a TD with like 2 minutes or less left and then they expected him to go out and do everything when they had 0 run game so the defense would rush 3 (and the guards still had trouble covering the interior which is why he threw 2 of those ints) and have everyone else drop back. Brandon Staley was the problem, Herberts record is 20-5 when his defense gives up less that 28 points, the problem was Staleys defense would give up 30 plus almost every week.

    So is Herbert good? Well if you imagine Lamar Jackson had that record of losing as a starting nfl QB would you think Lamar was good? If you are honest, you’d admit Lamar wouldn’t be consider a good QB if he had the exact same record as Herbert. So based on his wins and loses as starting QB, herbert is mediocre.
