This course is a gem! There's no better way of putting it. From the first to tee to the last green, the clubhouse, and beyond the entire experience was amazing.
The Golden Horseshoe Gold Course, ranked #43 on the Golf Digest top 100 public courses list, is one of our all-time favorite golf courses.
We think it should be ranked higher. Any avid golfer has had the dream of walking up and down the fairways at Augusta National. But very few get the opportunity. This course gets you closer to that experience than any other and at a fraction of the price. Robert Trent Jones, the Augusta National architect agrees. He said it best.
"This is the closest I could ever come to recreating Augusta"
And the cherry on top is our own rendition of Tiger stalking the fairways. Matt, the loser from our first Williamsburg round at Kingsmill will be strutting the iconic Cardinal red mock neck and black accents. Playing a fun drinking game called Snake along the way our featured group of Tiger, Ryan, and Joe can't get enough of the stoic vibes at the Golden Horseshoe.
With the same bunker sand, bermudagrass, pine straw-lined fairways, and iconic par threes the course truly is an accessible Augusta National offering a top-tier experience for all golfers.

We played snake 30 years ago. The original rules were the guy holding the snake would call out one player once everyone was on the green. If that player holed the putt then the guy calling the snake would get the penalty while a 3putt would give the 3putter the penalty and the snake. The game started with the first 3putt and the violater received the penalty and the snake.
I’ve also seen another iteration similar to this after this video! The simple Snake call for a shot on any given hole was how it was introduced to us and we rolled with it! I’m sure the other iterations are also a blast. Thanks for watching!
Great golf course. and my absolute favorite course and I've been playing for 40 years and have played all over the world.
2 of the 3 of us feel the same way and we played it in the rain. We really want to get back and experience it in good conditions!
@@Turtlegolf You should definitely go again. I actually played the Tour for a brief period so I've got some good comparisons. I especially like that once you tee off the first hole, you feel as though you're in the middle of nowhere, just playing golf. Not even Pinehurst gives you that feeling.

Thanks! This would be a nice course to have in the backyard! The video does it wrap up the front 9. Ryan's birdie putt is at the 25:50 mark. You might have to jump there and re-watch! Maybe since I live in Georgia, I’m being a bit of a homer, but I hope you all get a chance to walk (I’ve only won the lottery twice to get tickets to Practice Rounds at the Masters.) or better yet play Augusta, and then I would like to hear your opinions on which course has the steepest terrain and the fastest greens.
Also this may have helped your round. The last time I went a severe thunderstorm had blown through the area about 5:00 am so there was a couple hour delay before they opened the gates, so they could clear all the branches off the fairways. When the let us in they had also gotten every last pine needle, too. Here’s the part where it might have helped your round. As we were in the crowd at the first tee, there was a faint hissing sound. I asked someone what that noise was? The SubAire. The whole course has a vacuum system under it to suck the rain water away.

Appreciate the comment. Would love to one day get a chance to visit (or play) Augusta. I can't imagine the pristine conditions you would find there. While I think we make a fair comparison and it's fun to talk about the Golden Horseshoe as the closest a public course comes to Augusta, we know Augusta will always be the Mecca. It's hard to fathom that the Golden Horseshoe being a great course and well condition really couldn't hold a candle to the level of conditioning and prestige at Augusta. Didn't realize Augusta had the Subaire feature. Technology these days! haha One day we'll find a way to get on Augusta and make a true comparison! @My-2-Cents Oh for sure. No way to compare them. I think the point is that the Horseshoe has some of the feel with all the lush plant and tree life and some of the elevation plus great par 3s. It will never compare to Augusta but it is the RTJ architectural masterpiece and that's saying something. You can't believe what he was able to do on such a small piece of land. The holes are intertwined with each other but you never feel like the hole next to you is getting in the way.
