I both love/hate variants. Some of the covers are so amazing and you want nothing more than to get them, however, EVERY issue does not need multiple variants. There are many times that it is WAY out of hand, and other times that it makes sense. THANKS JAMES!

I have that ultimate fall out variant and I’m sending it out to get it graded next week….can’t believe I bought it from midtown comics for 10 dollars when it came out and now it’s going 15 thousand or so….hope I get a good grade!

Midtown was good back in the day before they changed there website now its all confusing .... they used to send there ratio vatiants in top loaders which was cool ,, every variant i got from Midtown came back a 9.8

@@MintHunterComics I know, I kind of just take the strategy of buying a variant if I thinks it's cool at this point. Buying every one from popular artists in hopes of them becoming valuable feels like a fools errand. Then of course the one you didn't buy is worth $10k in 5 years haha
I go by the art work. If I like it I get it. I get variants because the art work is beautiful. I am never looking to hit the gold mind with any of them.
Amazing spider-man #4 Ramos variant and Silk #1 comicspro variant. Both go for around $1,000. Great books
I never used to be one for variants. But they are making some awesome ones now. I bought way too many Venom #200 variants.

Marvel has lost its mind with the variants. Reeks of desperation. Another channel l watch, Comics with Bueller, runs previews of the next weeks covers and that X-men book had something like 26 covers. Ridiculous. That part took over 5 minutes to run through.
It's out of control. Some people love it but I think it's too obvious a money grab. The reality is it's not going anywhere anytime soon!
I love many of these covers, but the prices are stupid! Sure, they're rare, but $33k? There are 20 graded 9.8 and 20 graded 9.6. Just to put that into perspective, the hottest villain right now is Kang. The first appearance of Kang (as Rama-Tut) was in FF 19 and the highest known copy (a 9.6) sold for $9,600. There are 0 graded 9.8 copies 11 graded 9.6 copies.
Is a rare issue with a cool cover really worth 4x as much as a 60 year old book of a key MCU villain that's twice as rare?
Lots of cool covers, but unless Dell'Otto turns out to be the next Picasso, I think speculators have gone nuts on some of these prices.
I couldn't agree with you more. So I can forgo the $33,600variant and get 6 copies of a 9.6 first kang?!? Lol! This market is quite silly
today's modern variants are tomorrows silver age keys ........ just a matter of time.. to each there own it seems... good to have both and diversify between the variety of ages

Holy cow, those are some crazy prices. I dislike variants, as a rule, the concept didn't really exist back when I collected. Seems like a trick to make up for diminished sales... but I could be wrong.

i love variants. but it breaks my heart when i see a variant worth a ton of $, next to a different variant of that issue that is much better. ratio shouldn't trump artistry. put another way: a 1:100 with sub-par artwork shouldn't be worth more than a far superior cover illustration, no matter the ratio.
Ratio variants artificially bump up a comic, I wish variants were popular solely for the art. Sadly it's not always the case!

Interesting paradox with that Supergirl cover. They all have green labels because of the numbering on them. But if you were able to remove that numbering, would it get a blue label even if you technically restored it? Is this a Schrodinger's Slab scenario?
Not sure! what's interesting is a few of them that got slabbed got lcuky and got the blue chip due to CGC missing it or something!

If I ever buy variants it's usually because I'm a huge fan of the series. I rarely but any comic for the resell value I do it for the love the craft

I don't like variants.It's why I quit collecting comics.
Or I should say quit buying new colmics. I only buy old comics that have already shown their value but I won't buy a variant.It's just not a fair thing. . It is a step toward destroying comic collecting. Kids can't buy those comics. I started buying comics as a kid. Hell, as an adult I can't get those comics. They shouldn't even be called variants.They should be called comics for rich people, Or lucky people, Or people with connections. something like that.
I'll buy variants of books I collect, but only if it has some great art on it.
True for instance I stopped the Batman variants because I simply didn't love the art!

Ah variants....i actually had that gold Uncanny 297 back in high school. Did I have to send away for it? Nope. I actually pulled it out of the board game itself. Long story short after some research I guess the manufacturer in the last run of the game just inserted one of the 4 Pressman variants at random to get rid of them. About 10 years ago got it slabbed (9.2) and sold it.......for not a whole lot. 😣oh well. Lol

I agree with you about variant book not holding value. These books are the exception to the rule.
Like other aspects of collecting, do your research. And apparently collect J Scott Campel. His books hold value, if you buy the right one.

I collect high end Variants, mostly spiderman and have a lot on this list. I suggest looking at raw vs 9.8 to get an idea of popularity vs false CGC scarcity

I spent lots of money back in the day to get every variant for the series I was reading, not anymore though. Especially Witchblade, they were so many I stopped collecting them after they started reprinting older numbers with new covers. Interesting I don't see any of them on the list btw, or maybe, a couple of the early DF ones?
i have the X-Men 297 issue. My uncanny Xmen collections goes from 172 to 486..all bagged and boarded of course

1:25 Djurdjevic Variant I payed 300$ back then. I knew I have 6 keys never submitted.
I only have one of those (the Supergirl and Legion of Super Heroes #23....and have it signed by Kitson, who was the artist in the book).....and kinda have another one (I have Campbell's Uncanny X-Men 510, but not that virgin variant...just his regular variant, which I had him sign and got graded at a 9.6, still goes for 230 unsigned in that condition)......great list.....just crazy....but for every one of those, just 15-20 that go down pretty quickly.
I would like to inquire about Armor Hunters: 1 X-O Manowar And Armor Hunters: 1B Blooodshot Chromium Edition. Both are CGC 9.8 SS (Signed). 10 exist for X-O Man and 4 exist for Bloodshot.

I love variant covers!!!!? But I don't chase them!!!!? I have a few comic dealers that have a grab bag service where they are sending out grab bags that might have a variant covers randomly 🤔!? And other things that you might receive!!?? Like a killer poster of wolverine!!? And then they have comic novels with every single order!!!!!!? But anyway they have grab bags that are worth quite a bit of money 💰!!!? And the comics come sleeved and in near mint or mint condition!!!!? And for only $30.00" a month!!!!!!? Can't beat it!!!! Especially when I have always received a bag full of goodies worth several hundred dollars 💵a bag!!!!? Like I said before!? It's like a scabbie penis@? Ya can't beat it!!!!!!!!? Lol
The holy grail in my collection is a 9.9 of TMNT: The Last Ronin #5 Bishop Virgin Metal Edition. In your expert opinion what do you think this is worth. I can't find anything on the internet for this book.

It's crazy how much these variants can be worth over cover A. My first exposure to a modern one was War of Realms: New Agents of Atlas - Mico Sauyan variant that has shows the first Filipina superhero with the Philippino flag in the background.
I noticed that there weren’t any old school variants. Spider-Man #1 platinum & gold UPC come to mind. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #3 Comic Con edition is an extremely rare and pricey book. I can name my price for my Venom: Lethal Protector #1 Black “error” variant. Last but not least, the Grand Daddy of highly sought after and rare variants: Star Wars #1 $0.35 price variant.
I have a Bloodshot #1(Feb 1993)
I am curious about a potential ink misprint variant.
The red ink on my chromium cover is not red. Its more of an orange gold.
I have looked at other examples of this book, and the red is VERY red.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.
I collect J Scott Campbell's stuff and will have all of the books you featured one day. Only have the Superior Spider-Man 20 variant now.

Where are the Strange Academy Variants? The 1:50 Opena sells for right around $1,000 with some higher and the 1:25 Ramos or the virgin Momoko have done $600
I got the Nabisco Wolverine in 2008 for about $175. It's slabbed at 9.4, but has never been cleaned and pressed. I think I'm gonna crack it for clean and press and get it signed by Sienkiewicz.
I got the UF4 1:25 when it first came out. Finally got it cleaned, pressed, and slabbed. Pulled a 9.4. Pretty happy.
I get a lot of variants, but it's either an artist I love, if it's a key, or if I'm trying to get a complete set. I'm blown away by the hype on later printings, because when I started collecting in the 90s, later printings were considered trash
The variant craze single-handedly put Marvel in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. I stopped collecting for that reason. And yet, over twenty years later, just about every publisher is back at it.
Although I own one of those rare variants. I keep it just because of the great cover art. I wouldn’t be too upset if the value dropped (and has it ever) over the years.
Some issues just over due the variants too many yet I have some favourite artists that I have to have when they do a variant Bill Sienkiewicz Something is Killing the Children #16 Walt Simonson Beta Ray Bill #1Terry Dodson Avengers Annual #10 so who am I to complain. That Thrawn issue is cool. Getting into collecting 2nd 3rd 4th prints now or just Amazing cool covers I need a Green Lantern #55.
I don't go after a bunch of variants, but some I will go after as Ling as they're not super expensive. But I mostly go after ones I just think look cool.
I am a huge fan of Vamperlla and lady death. Also I like she hulk. Can't go wrong with either....
I normally dont chase variants post-publishing ,If I can preorder variant issues of some titles with my store, I do that. Example: I like Artgerm (Stanley Lau) covers, so when it was announced that he was going to do Death Metal ones, I preordered all of them (I was going to read the comic anyways), but i would not have chased them post-published, because they would have been exploding in prize. saludos desde Panamá.

I enjoyed the Gold Key heroes Dynamite was putting out (Magnus, Turok, Solar) but sadly they no longer have the license it seems.
