When this movie was being filmed, I lived in the town that is "Mandrake Falls" in the movie (New Milford, CT). It was fun to see the actors doing their thing and the film crew, making it "snow" in July, and all those red corvettes lined up around the green. They even changed the name of the local newspaper to the "Mandrake Falls Gazette" during the filming. Sandler would hang around after filming and sign autographs, the whole production was great to our little town. :) Thanks for your reaction! This brought back memories for me (closing down the town office I worked in so we could go watch them film, lol)
Trivia for Mr. Deeds: 1. Released in 2002; directed by Steven Brill; written by Tim Herlihy. 2. Mr. Deeds is a remake of a 1936 film called "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town," which has a similar plot. 3. Although Adam Sandler was born in Brooklyn, he moved to Manchester, New Hampshire when he was a kid, and spent much of his childhood there. As a result, the town of Mandrake Falls (which is fictional) was switched to New Hampshire, where in the original, it was set in Vermont. 4. Allen Covert has been a frequent collaborator of Adam Sandler, even if he's hard to recognize. On James' channel, he's appeared in Happy Gilmore (the caddy), The Waterboy (one of the fans in the stands), and 50 First Dates (Ten Second Tom). He plays Marty, Babe's cameraman, in this film. 5. Winona Ryder was named after the city she was born in - Winona, Minnesota. 6. Director Steven Brill features in a cameo as a violinist, since he played it when he was growing up. 7. Winona Ryder broke her arm during the scene where she and Deeds ride bikes down the stairs. 8. Frequent collaborator Rob Schneider is the cameo at the end reading the greeting card to the cat; he played the same character in the movie Big Daddy, three years earlier. 9. All interior shots of the helicopter had to be faked, because the vehicle (a Sikorsky S-92) wasn't FAA certified when filming started. 10. The same year, Adam Sandler showed off his more dramatic range in a movie called "Punch Drunk Love." As a result, many critics who didn't like Sandler compromised when debating how good his material was.
Mr French was a character in an old sitcom called Family Affair. He was the butler played by Sebastian Cabot. He was rotund and had a full beard like the opera singer.
Several of the actors in this movie are cast of multiple movies by Adam Sandler. John Turturro is in Anger Management and You Don't Mess With The Zohan. Allen Covert was in 50 First Dates, The Wedding Singer, he was Happy Gilmore's scraggy Caddie, Just Go With It and Blended. John McEnroe also had a small part in Anger Management. Kevin Nealon had parts in Mr. Deeds and Happy Gilmore too. They all are great actors and fit so well. Adam stars with legend Jack Nicholson and Marisa Tomei (Mona Lisa Vito in My Cousin Vinny) in Anger Management and I highly recommend it!
36:49 Winona Ryder's natural hair color is brown. But she has dyed her hair multiple colors (colours) in various film roles, occasionally also dying her eyebrows to match.

6:40 Steve Buscemi is in fact a former New York Firefighter. He happened to be in NYC on 9/11 the morning of the attack. He immediately went to a firehouse after the second plane, put on his gear and jumped on a truck headed down to the Trade Center. If I remember correctly, he was there for several days. He never publicized it. A reporter happened to get a picture of him hanging onto a fire truck as it raced down to ground zero. Steve did only one interview about what he did and has done no more about it. He has never made a big deal about it. The man deserves so much more respect!
So happy you watched this. I was waiting for that Iowa drop. Adam Sandler in Bulletproof (1996) is a hidden gem. Speaking of gems. His recent movie Uncut Gems (2019) is one of his best and highlight's his range. I'm many ways the character he plays in it is opposite of the one seen here.
15:00 That is literally the actor, Sebastián Cabot,r who played Mr. French in the 1966-1971 t.v. sitcom Family Affair. As I wasn't born until 1976, I watched it occasionally on a late night syndication cabel channel. It would have been interesting to see what the show would have been like if it continued into 70s. However, it is essentially a normal predictable late 60s sitcom for the most part. To have the actor who literally played Mr. French say "I've never of him" about Mr. French is a hilarious inside joke.
The character played by Rob Schneider is actually a cameo of his character from Big Daddy, which came out just prior to Deeds. A joke you can appreciate on rewatch, I guess. 🤣
