It doesn't matter how fast or slow a pitcher can pitch. It is whether he can get movement and location of his pitches. If Aroldis Chapman is putting pitches right down the middle of the plate, it is going to get hit just as hard as a Jamie Moyer 78 mph "fastball".
Honestly hes my favorite player. How any person can throw 7 perfect innings in his 40s, hit a home run in his career, and be SO respectful to the dude that breaks up his perfect game is remarkable to me . This dude is an unbelievable ball player and the epitome of a respectful player. Hats off Bartolo Colon, we miss you over here in Oakland
I was disappointed that he got so little ovation from the Astros fans upon his departure. Sure he is the opposing pitcher, but any real baseball fan has to appreciate this performance enough to give up a little applause.
That home run he hit was fucking EPIC! I’ll remember Gary Cohen’s call on that forever. If you haven’t listened to it, I highly suggest you do. Even if you’re not a Mets fan.
erik gonzales Astro bandwagons. They like to think the team is perfect in every way because they won a single WS, but just like the big market teams, they got shitty fans.
Aww look at the 3 of you form an inseparable bond! He can enjoy baseball all he wants, but dude clearly said he's an Angels fan. By him posting that on this video pertaining to how things went with Colon, then laughing about not being able to wait to see Ohtani pitch against Houston, dude is implying that the same outcome will occur. You can't tell me he's not! Lol some of y'all need to keep your asses off of comment sections, little shit talking gets to y'all like females on the cusp of puberty! Oh and Houston's single WS, was by far one of the far more entertaining ones any of us can remember in recent history!
One of a kind. I was at the game in San Diego when he hit a 2 run Homer. The look on James Shields face and the reaction of his Mets teamates was priceless.
Its so hard to watch the 8th inning of this game. I'm an Astros fan, but Bartolo Colon having a perfect game at nearly 45 is more important than a meaningless early season win. Whats amazing is that if this was any other team, he might've been able to do it. If Bartolo was playing the marlins or the rays, it could be possible. On a side note this game had some of the worst commentary I've ever fucking heard. Players being called the wrong name, calling it a scoreless game multiple times when it was 1-0, ranting about utter nonsense constantly.
It certainly looked like they were underestimating Bartolo. Once they saw he threw seven perfect innings, they said: let’s take a look at those signals.
So when did it start becoming a thing where the announcer advertises a perfect game in the 4th inning and doesn't shut up about it as it goes on. There are rules to these things!
Stupid rules. Magic isn't real, superstitions are idiotic. It's the announcers job to inform the audience what is going on. Talking about it doesn't exert some unseen force over the game to affect the outcome.
I think youre mixed up....That only applies to players and coaches on the bench....You dont bring it up or generally talk to the pitcher..... The announcers/media discussing it/cut to that game has absolutely nothing to do with that superstition.
bartolo is this good because his control is the best in mlb history. he can put the ball anywhere which makes batters rollover, pop up, and hit weak hit. he paints the corners like nobody else
Butter Johnson Did you see the Maddux masterpiece against the Cubs on the road. Didn’t even throw 90 pitches to get the complete game shutout. That was beautiful to watch.
tampajohn i still think what if Yanks had kept him longer instead of thinking his career was done 6 plus years ago. And he pitched well for them so not resigning him was a ??
BluRed I know this is late, but sometimes these decisions are made due to upcoming prospects. I don’t keep up with the yanks and I’m not sure if that’s the reason, but I do know those 25 spots can be brutal decisions. Question for you. Is he a Hall Of Famer? I definitely say yes. He’s done too much for the game, not to be inducted.
Coincidentally, Bartolo Colon pitched a NO-HITTER for the AAA Buffalo BIsons in a 4-0 victory on June 20, 1997 at NorthAmericare Park in Buffalo, NY vs. the New Orleans Zephyrs, then the AAA affiliate of...the Houston Astros.
I'm glad to see this. I've always really like Bartolo, when he returned a few seasons ago was thrilled. He's a beast! Way to show em age is just a number.
I was so rooting for this guy to get a perfect game or at least a no-hitter, particularly against a team like Houston. In his prime he was a great pitcher and he showed he still has his stuff. Respect to you, Bartolo
ese es orgullo nuestro bartolo Colón de Altamira puerto plata demostró que los años no importa sino estar preparado física y mentalmente Felicidades bartolo amigo de mi amigo frías de Altamira César cespedes locutor maeño
What the frak??!! As a Braves fan I was excited to see him in a Braves uniform. Then he was just too inconsistent. He'd strike out two guys and then give up four runs. Now he pitches a near perfect game. God bless him. I hope he does great to kick the Astros butt. I just wish he pitched this way for the Braves last year.
Well he did keep bringing up Harper getting a homerun during the Mets and Nationals game last week so this doesn't surprise me. I like Matt but damn I do not remember him being this annoying.
Alot of the fellow Rangers fans of Facebook were saying this was a dumb move by the Rangers and he wouldn't do alot when he pitched. I think they should reconsider their thoughts. I liked the signing and this is why. He's a really good pitcher still at 44. He's the best pitcher they have so far
Those 2 Seamers are some of the NASTIEST pitches I've seen in my 28 years of living. The one 2 seamer to Altuve was absolutely filthy... It look like it broke about 6 ft from the outside in.
Fake news. Bartolo didn’t “flirt with perfection” He already is perfect.
Jajjaja
I love that. No truer statement has ever been uttered.
I had Bartolo on my fantasy team when I was a young married guy with a 3 month old baby. That baby graduates college next month.
As a 15 year old, what did you wish that you knew ?
+Ree Robin are you challenged
Damn
1. Congrats to you sir
2. Thats crazy
That's pretty awesome to be honest 😁
I marvel at Bartolo Colon. The man is almost 45 years old, looks like he works out at Burger King and he can still pitch at the Major League level.
David Reynolds he’s Greg madduxing it less velocity more movement
Not only can he pitch at the big league level but he can take a perfect game against the ASTROS into the 8th.
“Looks like he works out at Burger King”.
Fucking epic comment!
nicholas gerling his 4seam fastball is still 93
It doesn't matter how fast or slow a pitcher can pitch. It is whether he can get movement and location of his pitches. If Aroldis Chapman is putting pitches right down the middle of the plate, it is going to get hit just as hard as a Jamie Moyer 78 mph "fastball".

Us Mets fans miss him too.
Randy H. Modern day babe ruth
*epitome, but yes, I love me some Big Sexy :D
I was disappointed that he got so little ovation from the Astros fans upon his departure. Sure he is the opposing pitcher, but any real baseball fan has to appreciate this performance enough to give up a little applause.
Randy H. Hell to the yes! I’d take him as our #5. Put Wheeler and Vargas in the pen. Or trade one of them.
You may not like it but this is what male peak performance looks like
Jose Ortega I
Looks more like whale peak performance.
Jose Ortega lmao
True
Max he's still in the Majors, still pitching extremely well. Can you say that?
Even more impressive now.
He almost went perfect and they were stealing signs. Get rekt
MANCHESTER UNITED You need a life, kid.
MANCHESTER UNITED Nobody asked
MANCHESTER UNITED I must have Alzheimer’s, because I don’t remember asking
MANCHESTER UNITED stupid bot
MANCHESTER UNITED you’re everywhere, just give up already.
Whats even crazier is the Astros knew what pitches were coming and still couldn't hit it
Well facing him I think every team knew what’s coming...
@@sadmetsfan7660 me when i see him
the saddest thing about Big Sexy being in the AL is that we dont get to see him bat any more :'( the GOAT!!!!
He will hit a home run in an interleague play, mark my word. :)
He can still bat in interleague play
That home run he hit was fucking EPIC! I’ll remember Gary Cohen’s call on that forever. If you haven’t listened to it, I highly suggest you do. Even if you’re not a Mets fan.
Virginia Shelton Go away.
He was so much fun with the Mets. We'd cheer him everytime he swung the bat, especially when his helmet fell off.
He may not have got to perfection but damn he was making the whole Astros lineup frustrated especially Altuve and Springer lmaooo
The Mojo Card Box You do know their slump won't last forever?! Ohtani will get lit the fuck up eventually also! 😂
erik gonzales Astro bandwagons. They like to think the team is perfect in every way because they won a single WS, but just like the big market teams, they got shitty fans.

He probably really wanted to say to his teammates when he got to the dugout, “Thanks for the run support, guys.”
I mean, Justin Verlander was pitching.
Cyber Farmer and they won anyway
He’s so good he can pitch with perfection against cheaters
Damn fans didn't give him a good enough ovation
I think the internet would've broke had he actually gotten the perfect game.
One of a kind. I was at the game in San Diego when he hit a 2 run Homer. The look on James Shields face and the reaction of his Mets teamates was priceless.
I have a lot of respect for this man, and I am a Yankees fan. To be this old and do this well is amazing. Hopefully he continues to play like this!
The alpha male just showed us how greatness looks like
Bartolo Colon and Adrian Beltre are the only two active players to start their MLB careers in the 90's
And at the time they were both on the same team
Its so hard to watch the 8th inning of this game. I'm an Astros fan, but Bartolo Colon having a perfect game at nearly 45 is more important than a meaningless early season win. Kori Jenkins We need to get this bullpen back because rendon killed our game
Kori Jenkins anybody could throw a no hitter against my rays or the marlins, even a 60 year old drunky
The Astros is struggling at bat without "BANG"
sign stealing camera must have been on the fritz that night
Colon's sexiness broke it.
@@jayit6851 He's so thicc, the camera couldn't see past him.
Everything this man does is perfection
I’m so fucking pissed the legend didn’t get his deserved win...fucking rangers offense...
Underrated0men3376 thats twice his first start was amazing as well! Should be 2-0
No Andrus and no Odor though
Justin is a beast tho so they have a good excuse for only one run
Wins are a nearly useless stat for pitchers
Yeah, the W-L stat is pretty pointless
It certainly looked like they were underestimating Bartolo. Once they saw he threw seven perfect innings, they said: let’s take a look at those signals.
So when did it start becoming a thing where the announcer advertises a perfect game in the 4th inning and doesn't shut up about it as it goes on. There are rules to these things!
Fire Dolphin Go watch completed perfect games. Nearly always is talked about, but people are only superstitious when they can’t get it done
Fire Dolphin Right? Unwritten rules too!
The announcers/media discussing it/cut to that game has absolutely nothing to do with that superstition.
thats exactly what I'm saying!!!
One of my favorite players ever. He always seems so cool. His home run in 2016 elevated him to legend status.
tough to cheat when everything is a fastball
Haha
If you do not love Bartolo Colon even just a little, you do not love life itself.
bartolo is this good because his control is the best in mlb history. he can put the ball anywhere which makes batters rollover, pop up, and hit weak hit. he paints the corners like nobody else
Slow it down, Junior. Greg Maddux could shave a housefly's nutsack with a curveball. I
Butter Johnson Did you see the Maddux masterpiece against the Cubs on the road. Didn’t even throw 90 pitches to get the complete game shutout. That was beautiful to watch.
I swear as soon as I tuned in he threw ball 4. I jinxed him... Sorry Colon
David Sosebee Scumbag! J/K. LOL.
David Sosebee you son of a biscuit
David S.
For shame, David. For shame.
Must’ve cheated this legendary man out of a perfect game
Bartolo looks a little younger and slimmer this year.
It’s funny how a 47 year old Bartolo colon can do very good against cheaters lol
What a performance, so much movement on those pitches
I was hoping the Mets would re-sign him in the off-season. He’s just not the same without a Mets uni on. He’s a cult hero here in NY.
tampajohn i still think what if Yanks had kept him longer instead of thinking his career was done 6 plus years ago. And he pitched well for them so not resigning him was a ??

Legend!
I'm glad to see this. I've always really like Bartolo, when he returned a few seasons ago was thrilled.
He's a beast! Way to show em age is just a number.
When they realized they couldn’t hit colon they must’ve started using buzzers lmao
I am thinking the same thing.
At Houston an almost perfect game, it is an actual perfect game.
They used some of those buzzers surely
Big Sexy has an encyclopedic knowledge of hitters across the league and he applies that knowledge like a boss.
mus respetos para Bartolo Colón por ser un excelente picher pero más por ser una persona humilde y noble,un abrazo para el.
The fact that tolo did this to an offensive heavy astros team. Makes it even more impressive
Good old Colon still surprising us. Part of me still misses him playing for the Mets but they needed to move on from him.
Moving on is so hard to do 😢. With that said...lets go Mets 😀!
PipeGuy64Bit
victoria
Bartolo is amazing!!
They knew witch pitch was coming but still couldn’t hit😂
That announcer totally jinxed him!
When Altuve looks at strike 3, or swings at something way out of the zone for a strikeout, u should know he is dealing.
Colon is a freak of nature. Also, that female announcer is annoying.
I tell you what happened early in that game The Astros had a problem with the Monitors 😂
He is the Zlatan of baseball, Fine Wine
Still the 🐐 at 44
I was so rooting for this guy to get a perfect game or at least a no-hitter, particularly against a team like Houston. In his prime he was a great pitcher and he showed he still has his stuff. Respect to you, Bartolo
Colon's command is not to be messed with.
They couldn't steal his signs.
Even when they knew what pitch was coming they still couldn’t hit off Bartolo, that proves Bartolo is a god.
If the Astros didn't cheat, this might of been a perfect game
Not a baseball fan but I like this stoned faced and cool as a cucumber pitcher
The MLB shouldn’t have left Colon to play in Mexico...
ese es orgullo nuestro bartolo Colón de Altamira puerto plata demostró que los años no importa sino estar preparado física y mentalmente Felicidades bartolo amigo de mi amigo frías de Altamira César cespedes locutor maeño
He’s been retiring because of age in MLB the show franchises for at least 8 years now. Wow, simply amazing.
Bartolo Colon, the gift that keeps on giving
Almost throw a perfect game to the 2017 WS Champions, Batting Title Champion Jose Altuve, All Start caliber lineup! Amazing
Bravo 💪💪⚾ Bartolo Colon ⚾💪💪💪 Clase de lanzador felicidades desde panama 🇵🇦
This is the team that won the world series last year and was known for their offense.
Great job Bartolo. Keeping that beast lineup in check for so long.
So that's why they had trouble with him. All he throws are fastballs so no point in stealing signs.
Colon is god. I wish he still batted tho, his homerun was the most epic moment in the baseball.
Bring back Big Sexy to the NY Mets. To finish his career
Literally the greatest baseball player ever.
And at Minute Maid? That’s insane knowing they were banging trash cans
Matty V mentioned the no hitter and perfect game one too many times I think -_-
Well he did keep bringing up Harper getting a homerun during the Mets and Nationals game last week so this doesn't surprise me. I like Matt but damn I do not remember him being this annoying.
Way too many times.. like so awkward
It's ESPN, what did you expect?
More Aaron Judge
To all those talking about age in reference to Col’on and Ichiro. Eat this... 44✔️Stop age discrimination✔️
I loved seeing his defense make big plays its to bad he didn't get run support... I love baseball tho!! Great game.
Yeah the infield was pretty busy. The outfielders pretty much got the day off.
Beltre and Colon... This two are unretired legends in the same team still destroying new blood.
I guess the cheaters forgot to bring the trash cans and the beepers that night!
If he got the perfect game this would've been the best moment in sports history
let's go COLON,. 1 OF THE BEST👍👍👍👍
This guy is amazing! I wish, he would have thrown a perfect game. He deserves it!
Creo que el león de alta mira podía dar más viva República Dominicana
Bartolo the 🐐.
Altamira,Puerto Plata DR Represent
Now that we know what we know this is very impressive
Alot of the fellow Rangers fans of Facebook were saying this was a dumb move by the Rangers and he wouldn't do alot when he pitched. I think they should reconsider their thoughts. I liked the signing and this is why. He's a really good pitcher still at 44. He's the best pitcher they have so far
🗣 The real Bart 🙌🏻💯
This video aged quite interestingly

Future hall of fame
Damn!!! Love BC!!!
Andrew Swanson lol, ass!
Favorite pitcher in baseball
Bartolo Colon flirts with perfection by existing.
There must have been a shortage of trash cans at the Houston hardware stores.
that’s impressive to be 40+ and nearly throw a perfecto against a team that not only cheated but had some of the most talented position players
*colon is always perfect*
Bartolo is one of kind
he's perfect in the ways that really count
Colon might be feeling pressure, Nah pressure feels Colon
Bartolo the goat
Looking back at it, bartolo did this against a team that knew the pitch. If colon isn’t a first ballot HOFer we riot
