Well... the US aren't stable right now... nor can they supply clean water and infrastructure to parts of the country... so, no! I guess there is no unified element which gives a government legitimacy.
Within the domestic debate, there is a growing tendency to draw equivalence between the United States and developing countries. The comparisons might sound sophisticated, but they are exaggerations with little merit given the state of many developing countries and even US peer countries. As for stability, the reason why both Bernie Sanders-style progressives, MAGA supporters of Trump, and everyone in between focus so much on US elections is, when polemics are stripped away, because of inherent trust in the system and rule-of-law.
@@1971mrubin Oh, I am not comparing the US with developing countries. I only wanted to point out, that some arguments in the video, regarding stability and legitimacy, can also be applied to the US. And focusing on the current elections... can be a sign of renewed trust in the system or a remnant force of habit. I hope for the former... and I am not a part of the domestic debate.

Why would anyone think there is a one size fits all government for middle east nations
Reminds me of my good ol' University days spent reading Weber.
In diverse like US the legitimacy is based on Rule of Law. Also I'd argue the US does have a uniting cultural ideal, it's just more abstract.
