- Shallow running streamers swung like a wet fly, can be a ton of fun when fishing for smallies. these streamers will run just a few inches under and invite bass to fit them from below, often resulting a splashy "rise" as they whack the fly.
it's one of my favourite ways to catch smallmouth bass.

It all depends on conditions and the fish. If the water is relatively clear and the fish aggressive, they will come up quite far. It helps if there are a number of fish in the run as they'll compete with each other. I've had bass come top for poppers out of water that was 8' to 10' deep.
In this video, the deepest fish was around 4'.
I wanting to learn to fly fish for smallmouth bass. They are mostly in shallow rivers in my area. Would you be able to go over leader set up and what flies you use with those leaders? Thank you for any information

In general do you prefer a strip set or a lift rod set when smallmouth bass fishing
I use both. When stripping streamers, it's usually more of a strip set, then lift. When swinging, usually more of a lift and when dead drifting flies, definitely a lift.
Can you cast and get the fly to swing to the left or right just before it lands ?
Curve cast? Yes it c an be done if necessary.
