- This is a quick lesson on how I play Motley Crue's 'Looks That Kill' I'm using a Marshall JVM 210 head and a Marshall 1960TV 4X12 cab loaded with Greenbacks. Enjoy!
Ads in the middle of videos suck. So don't worry about that here. I block them on my videos so feel free to watch stress free.
If you wanna buy me a taco or a pack of strings, you can hit the "thanks" button" :)
As always, thank you for watching!
1:49 is when the vid starts
Thanks man
Rip
Man really well explained without over explaining it .
Thanks and cheers \m/
"Now Listen Up....."
Shes a razor sharp...
"She'll slash you apart"...
This is how I learned to play it when I was twelve or thirteen, around '86, '87. But when I covered it live with bands at The Roxy, Whiskey or Gazzari's, I used power chords for the main riff and did not tune down. I also refused to tune down to E flat and told vocalists if they couldn't handle it to hit the road. I was a little tyrant because I could shred very fast at an early age and had a following in the L.A. club scene. I played clubs till about '93, when it was very clear there was no more interest in metal or shredding. At least for a while. The reason for the power chords was because in those days nothing was heavy enough and it was hard to find bandmates who weren't into thrash. I didn't like thrash, but that's the compromise I was willing to make. I also used a Boogie 50 Cal and had a very heavy sound to begin with.
I will say this. "Looks That Kill" is evidence of Mick Mars' guitar genius. He's an outstanding player, more in the Billy Gibbons mold than Shredsville, U.S.A., but also a lot more interesting to listen to, and his licks are great to learn. They tell you a lot about the magic of chords, how to construct great solos, like "Too Young To Fall In Love", and how to play some badass slide. I have big time respect for Mick, and you play this song brilliantly.
Super clear and concise. Loved it. Thanks very much for the great tut!
Awesome...I really GAIN alot from watching your videos..Smooth, strait forward teaching that's based on playing, not talking.Complete songs, not just intro's and close to's..These are AWESOME...Thanks alot man..
Thanks for this! You do a great job teaching and playing. I love that guitar and amp!
Thanks, great lesson, you're a good teacher, this helped me!
Great lesson man. Thank you for doing that. I have that same NJ Deluxe Warlock by the way but mine is the one in black. It was one of the best Warlocks BC Rich ever made. I can't imagine any other guitar I'd rather use to play this song than a Warlock.
Wow I love these lessons so much
How mick mars made the crue ignite. Def.one bad ass originator of great licks.
This is one of the best explanation I have ever seen
Really great lesson Thanks man!!!
Excellent lesson well instructed
Great lesson. Saw Wrecking Crue when y'all were at Southern Roots in McDonough, GA last year. You guys killed it.
Sounds great! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
thanks man well explained and demonstrated.
I did the part where he bends the high E string. It fucking snapped.
Well done. Spot on.
Thanks Mark. I remember watching a few videos you made and one was with your little brother, pretty cool.
Most excellent lesson. Straight to the point. I'm subscribing. Too many other "instructors" yammer on and on.
Awesome...simply awesome.
Not too shabby. Have to say though; that high note at the end of the intro riff you’re playing on the high E, Mick actually plays a pinch on the 7th fret of the G string for that. A good ear can tell that’s a harmonic because he really shakes it with the bar. But there’s also videos out there of him playing it that way.
Nice video mate🤘
Just noticed the Les Paul type headstock with the R logo. Just like Micks Warlock in the vid. Nice. You did teach it nicely.
Thanks so much man, i was trying to figure out the second verse riff, tnx for this vid
We have no choice but to add our own personal touch the legendary metal tunes because every individual is unique
really awesome :-)
Great work again! I really enjoyed the primal lesson also, you teach very well. Outside of that fast pentatonic scale you played, I am really only lacking a lesson on the solo from tackling this tune in what I would claim an acceptable manner. lol. Please add solo I am sure I could learn it from your excellent teaching!
Hey Mark, remember me ? I'm the guy that opened for you at The Knotty Pine in Harrison, OH a couple years ago....It was the tour that Sam Kinison opened for Crue so, you guys had me come out as Sam, do about 10 minutes and intro the band...you guys were awesome! Keep rockin' !
I like your tutorial, and DIG THE GEAR!
I play the chord digression with "A7 bar position" pull-offs.
It's an old Johnny Thunders/ Ace Frehley (sp?) trick you might want to try.
Again, I APPRECIATE YOUR VIDEO, & I'm sure that tribute band is fun to listen to.
Seriously.
Make more videos.
Everyone plays differently.
thank you fot taking the time to teach this song the newbies like me might do better learning from a guitar with fret markings
Good job Mark. I seen u guys a few years back in southwest Ohio. I think its called the Blue room. I would love to see you guys again. Take care brother.
Nice!
Sick axe!
Thanks for the video. You forgot to mention that a Warlock is also a requirement. Yours is a little more souped up than mine. Nice rig.
Supercool lesson, thank you for posting this! I just the Dirt last weekend, enjoyed the movie. Let me ask you what guitar is that you are using? Also, sorry for the many questions, but pedal (s) are you using. Thank you.
Angel Martinez he’s using a warlock by bc rich
How do you palm mute just the a string without touching the d or g?
EXcellent!!!
Nice
What channel and settings are you using on the jvm???
It helped me a lot. My band is planning to play this song. Y
our tutorial is a very useful shortcut. Congrats!!!
could you please tell me, the brand and model of your guitar?
Sounds a LOT more like the real thing than some other attempts on the tube!
Can you do the solo please?
hey mark, do you guys play "shout at the devil" ? Can you do a video on how to play please ?
Bryan Keith super easy bud. Look up songsterr.com and look up the song. You’ll be playing it in 5 minutes
Joe _ songster is definitely more reliable and accurate than ultimate guitar
@@KillCaustic87 dude you are amazing! Thanks for sharing the link! And holy shit listening to the guitar of Face down in the dirt gets me HYPED
What kind of guitar and how much man sounds so good
B.C. Rich warlock reverse headstock
thanks for explaining the chorus dude u just played it for us
A tad confused. Some say tune to drop d. I thought that meant just tuning the low e to d yet all other strings stay in standard e tuning?
Hey Mark, I played in Crazy Babies, Black Sabbatical, and Shame One The Night. I'm needing to learn this one. I'm guessing you got this one.
Oh, and I was the Bass player in all those bands. I'm trying a guitar gig for fun.
And where did you get it
What is your amp sitting
when you tune down to motley crues tuning do you just tune down on the E string or do you tune down all the strings ? new to guitaring
all the strings down a whole step :)
"Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!"
What guitar are you using?
Damn what kind of Guitar do you have
And i love your reference about Randy Rhodes xxxx_ooooo
I struggle the most with palm muting and then switching to open and getting the root of the cords to be the most prominent is there anyway to fix these?
Same palm muting is killing me man
Que marca es tu guitar
What part of Metro Detroit are you in ?
Motor city baby !!
Thanks so much for these. Keep adding more crue lessons please..
Btw. Indianapolis is the real motor city. LoL. Just kidding. Love that guitar. Is it a BCRich?
thank you for the kind words! Yes, the guitar is a BC Rich Warlock
@@MarkThomasMusic You're welcome. I was a huge Crue fan in the day up to now. I was at the show in Indy where wild side was recorded.
Mick never got the recognition he deserved imho.
Man, I hope Detroit makes a comeback. I've always wanted to visit it. I find it interesting because being a guy born in 61 I can remember watching about all the good and bad on the news with my father as a child.
Anyway, please more great lessons. I've been playing since the late 70s and can figure it out, but I'm old and lazy. Hehehe. You do a great job anyway sir..
Best regards from Southern Indiana
Seymour. Home of John Cougar Melloncamp. ✌👍❤👍✌😎
@@hoosierdaddy2308 Small Town
@@HyperInflation2020 Yup. That is where I am from and live as John Cougar Melloncamp would sing about if that's what you are refering to. One of his original guitarist was a guy named Larry Crane who's mother owned a mom amd pop music store. I used to go in there in the 70a as a boy and young teen just starting to play and drool over all the new Deam guitars. She / that music store was a store Dean early early stockinf dealer.
I however was and continue to be into more uptempo music most of the time. Anyway, Please play and instruct more Crue. I'm able to do so myself, but lazy. LoL.
Thanks man. Really appreciate it. If you have any vids of your band please post
@@hoosierdaddy2308 Mick Mars and Axl Rose are both from Indiana.
Drop D tuning or every string tuned down full step? Thanks
Tuned down a whole step .NOT droped D
Thanks
My favorite song on my favorite Crue album!!!!!!! Too Fast For Love is tied with this album on my favorite all-time albums.
What’s the guitars name
sik guitar !
So did Crue play this song straight through the amps, not much pedal action or whatever? It certainly sounds like you can get that sound just via the Marshall amps. Really the album
version doesn't sound like they added too much nonsense to it, it's a straightforward Marshall OD sound but not with tons of distortion, etc. I honestly had no idea,
I was never a major Crue fan in high school but I liked some of their tunes and this is my fave song of theirs hands-down. I loved that it was fast and nasty, the antithesis of Sabbath for the most part. I appreciate them more nowadays. Also, amp settings? More gain and treble and less bass?
You should do more Motley Crue and add tabs into your videos
guitar name plz
What is that guitar?? Wow
I have that exact warlock
u rule baby
What guitar is this?
B.C Rich Warlock NJ series Deluxe
From the old school tabs
Maybe an all white Warlock with diamond inlays.
I got a way to play the chorus that will blow ur mind!! Coming soon
Now chris holmes from wasp was beast of a guitar player there is many Kirk hammet so many dave mustaine james hetfield mick mars good on you my. Freind
Marsha Marsha Marsha!
Maki Muncher What a nut nibbler
Motley fucking crue hell yes xxxxxoooio
At 5:10 you're putting too much wrist into it, you don't have to play the whole G chord just strum the string, let the note ride out
It would have been a much better video if you used a guitar with fret markers.
Man you can't explain for your life
f the haters
weak chugs moar gain
I used to say that to ur mom
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT add your own stuff. As a guitar playing listener, if you don't play it exact, I suspect it's because you can't. Watch the Scorpions at the US Festival. That's what a live performance should sound like. To take a classic song and change it is criminal.
your mom likes it 😉
Damn dude, slow down, it's a lesson, not a play through.
1:50 into and finally he starts. Nobody wants to hear your boring monologue. less talk and MORE rock (in tune)!!!!
Brian Downs that time spent typing your comment could have been better spent rocking out. Plz follow your own advice :) Thanks for watching tho!
You could just skip ahead if you dont want to hear him talk. I like his tutorials, I usually follow tabs but they don't properly indicate the tempo and techniques used in certain parts.
And no one wants to waste their time reading your BS. Learn some manners and get some class. Mark isn't forcing you watch his videos. Don't be such a douche bag.
I think you need to play through the rift first and then break it down. You're like the female in the relationship blah blah blah
your mom likes the way I do it. Now get to your room. You're grounded
Ok if the penatonic isnt in the actual song dont put it in there, if you are hell why not just add shit that isnt in the damn song all throughout it and ruin it that much more, you want to put your "signature" on a song, write a damn song.
Your mom LOVES when I use the pentatonic over her C chord :)
Nice!
