Descale Navien Tankless Water Heater

Steps:
1) Prepare water heater for servicing
a) Unplug water heater
b) Turn off gas valve
c) Isolate water heater by turning off large shutoffs
d) Connect hoses
2) Drain water in heater by opening both service valves
3) Remove, clean, and reinstall cold-water-inlet-filter
4) Remove, clean, and reinstall dirt trap
5) Prepare to descale heat exchanger
a) Turn off both service valves and empty bucket, make sure to get any dirt that may have fallen into the bucket out.
b) Connect cold water hose to sump pump
c) Turn on both service valves
11) Plug in sump pump and let run for 45 minutes
12) Unplug sump pump
13) Prepare to flush vinegar
a) Turn off both service valves
b) Disconnect hoses
c) Cap cold water service port
d) Connect a regular garden hose to hot water service port (and run the other end to a drain)
e) Turn on (open) hot water service port
14) Slowly turn on the cold water supply valve and let flow for 10 minutes
15) Slowly turn off the cold water supply valve
16) Turn off (close) hot water service port
17) Cap hot water service port
18) Disconnect garden hose
19) Take cover off water heater to remove, clean, and reinstall the cold air filter (reinstall cover)
20) Slowly open cold water supply valve
21) Slowly open hot water supply valve

Pro tip, clean the inlet filter after you descale, not before. The decaling process will dislodge contaminants that may be recirculated back into the cold water inlet.

Since you had the cover off to clean the air inlet, good idea to check and clean the flame rod. Easy to do this on NPE vs prior generation (NR) where you had to remove the blower.

Could you please Explain garden hose to flush vs using other red hose that was already attached? was it so water could run outside? And not into a bucket ? Thanks
