I'm from the east coast part of the country and spent a summer in LA back in the 80's. It was a culture shock, I remember going skating with a girl I met and seeing all the gang cats with they colors on. At the time I didn't know how serious it was because this was before any movies or books about the life came out. I remember the girl I was dealing with schooling me on how to dress and how to conduct myself if I was approached. I got cool with a few dudes they became interested in me because I came from across the country but it was definitely a dangerous time.

I'm a little older than these guys, what they are saying is true for older gangs. In my hood if you were a good student or athlete the hood protected you up to a point. It changed in the 80s when Crack came to the hood. The weapon of choice went from pistols to Assault Rifles and when they wanted to get at you it didn't matter where you were or who you were with.
SAY NO TO GANGS BECAUSE There are many negative effects of gangbanging. One of the most serious is the risk of violence and injury. Gang members are more likely to be involved in violent crime, and they are also more likely to be injured or killed as a result. Gangbanging can also lead to drug and alcohol abuse, which can further increase the risk of violence and injury. Additionally, gangbanging can lead to problems in school and decreased job opportunities.
Colors was more from the viewpoint of police officers and how they dealt with gangs. The only thing I hated about the movie was that the focus shifted from the bloods and crips to the Mexican gangs for the second half of the film.
I agree, but to be fair, most of the gangs in LA are Mexicans, they got like a 3-1 ratio vs blacks so it wouldn't be authentic without Mexican gangs, plus the movie wasn't meant to be for blacks, that's why John singleton made Boyz n da hood, he wanted to focus more on the black gangs he grew up around, but I get what you're saying

PS: Sinister and his brother Big Evil (two respected reputables from the most active/deadliest blood gang on the east side of Los Angeles, the Neighborhood Family Bloods aka Family Swan Bloods) appeared in the film, their appearance is when the Bloods showed up to the Crips funeral to "Set Trip", Big Evil was the dark skinned brother with the afro with the white shirt and green pants drinking a 40 and Sin was the one with his shirt off. 👍🏽
