There's something about the knight fighting that I dig. He's the epitome of a nameless knight. He fights relentlessly, desperately, but he's clearly nothing special either. He's a knight who could be any one of us.
What gets me is that his executions are swift and precise, conserving as much energy as possible. This is more in line with what you'd expect of a trained combatant in an actual life-or-death situation. Now wasted movements means no wasted energy, which can be used for later especially when see the Big Skelly Boi appear. On top of that, he's still expected to explore who knows how far before reaching the next milestone on his journey.
It's actually a pretty scary and menacing opening. The dragon demon at the end, the way it roars gives me the creeps. Music is also menacing. Anyone else feel the same?
This is by far the best intro to any souls game. The music, the monsters, how it shows off gameplay mechanics without being cheesy. Demon’s Souls is truly the OG
Dark souls 1/2 and Bloodborne are great and all but you never forget your first. I played this game so much back in the day and my greatest moments in any souls game are still with this game.

It's an early trailer though, I'm hoping the actual game has more of the atmosphere that the old game had. To me, everything looks too clean in the new trailer. It's good CGI, but I can tell it's CGI because nothing is obscured. With the old intro everything is just blurry enough and obscured enough to look more real somehow. Also the color pallette in the remake trailer looks really bright and it just feels way different from the washed out tones of the original intro.
The brass and trumpets make Demon's Soul's, Demon's Souls and unfortunately the new remake is lacking such instruments, not saying it's bad but it's very dark souls.
Semont, that's a good thing. PS2 and a little of 3 were the last bastions of creativity in video games. Everything you've played current gen is just a prettier copy-paste from last gen.

I say this one is still better than the remade version. It has better atmosphere, better music, and the fight scene is even more badass. Only thing the new one has over it is graphics.
I think the graphics fall short when the art direction itself is mediocre. The remake might have bettter graphics but its atmosphere PALES in comparison the original.

The muddy and decrepit look of the original makes your imagination run wild just like if you were in a real asylum. Even though they are extremely weak enemies, seeing those prisoners twitching and holding knives in the darkness makes you terrified of them, meanwhile the remake makes it all crystal clear so your mind is left more at ease. To put it simply, the original demon’s souls is a psychedelic fever dream, while the remake is a haunted house sponsored by Party City.

So much atmosphere was lost with the remake; what made demon’s souls DEMON’S SOULS. And once you play the remake you already know what to expect so if you actually do go back to the original it’s pretty much ruined. I’ll never forget that first playthrough of the original. Such a strange little experimental and at times downright horrifying game that you can’t help but love.

Travis Lemaster well in the game the dragon god does not look like that also I think the game advertises dread and the impossibility of your situation and how unlikely it is that you are gonna beat a knight the size of a tower but despite the deaths you do it but I think what they did with the bosses was great the bosses that needed more dread like the storm king and likely the maneaters was amped up but the new version also gives you a sense of badassery and the new picks from the game make me believe they managed to mix both let’s hope
The old roar is definitely a lot more intimidating, especially with the wailing midway through. Additionally, the camera is much further away in the remake, so it makes the dragon god look smaller. Also, the lack of lighting in the new one kinda obscures the details on the dragon god's body, which makes it visually less distinct.
3 years late. IMHO, Demon's Souls has a good soundtrack, but sometimes boring. Dark Souls 1 has by far more epic medieval orchestra music, it actually has better compositions to me. Try and listen to it. I cannot mention DS2 & DS3 because the music style is a lot different in those games.
Still the best in genre. Nothing comes close to the sounds, sights, music, and atmosphere of this epic title. This game is still generations ahead of it's time and will remain so, for many more to come
I fucking love that the end of the new trailer even went so far as to replicate the animation touch at 2:16 of the Dragon God's might being so unearthly that just the force of its own roar blasting from its mouth actually causes its inner jaws to shudder in place.
I have yet to pick up my pre order of the remake, but I saw the intro cinematic and am already more wary. It’s feels like John Woo directed the remake to Akira Kurosawa’s Demon’s Souls.
At the 2m mark is the Dragon God scene. The dead eyes, exposed gums, and the deliberateness of its movement, conveys supreme violence in a way that only an ancient soul could. Then you have the remake by Bluepoint, where the Dragon God is a cartoon from World of Warcraft. It really is that ignorant to the original's art direction.
That’s a dope way to explain something I think a few of us were feeling! Although I appreciate the remake for what it is, I would’ve loved a remake that would bring us an experience similar to how this trailer looked even.
This game was life changing. I probably listen to the sound track anywhere from once a month to every week since I discovered the game in 2009. The story and (intentionally) lack there of, was executed perfectly. The atmosphere is unparalleled by any other game I've played. A close second would have to be Skyrims atmosphere (although the game is a 3/10 or worse in every other aspect), and beyond that Bastion and Dead Space. Demon's Souls honestly gives me goosebumps and the amount of Lore-exploring I did before I knew there was a wiki was immense, I've totalled so many hours sightseeing, sculptures that resemble a character, the dreglings that operate the elevator before the False King, the courtyard of the dead after the tower knight and even inspecting the town below the Palace that can only really be seen on the bridge. I'm curious if anyone else feels as moved by this game as I do, and how sad it is that a game with a royal family of Allants will never be referenced on the PS4, even Father Gascoigne's mention of Umbasa was removed from Bloodborne.
I feel you bro, I adore this game. Same goes for Bloodborne. I love the Dark Souls games too but they don't capture the essence of what makes DeS and BB so cautivating, interesting and immersive. There's so much left unanswered that you have to fill in the blanks like Miyazaki used to when reading western novels.
Demons souls was the first souls game i played, and even today - after i've completed the souls series - i find it to be my favorite. The "Best" one, in terms of gameplay, lore, references etc. is DS3, but MY favorite, is Demon's Souls. The old, raspy voice in the beginning, chanting the story of Boletaria, with it's deep colorless fog and all these amazing names like "Old King Allant", "Biorr of the Twin Fangs", "Yurt, The Silent Chief" -- i mean, come on. This game was so immersive. It is the father of the Souls series. Old King Allant is Gwyn's daddy, and i mean it in a cute way. It's dark, well thought, the lore is hidden in an amazing way, it's sad and fulfilling. Demon's Souls is the shit, y'all.
Couldn't resist any longer and bought this game for PS3. Just got done with Tower Knight and what a hell of a game this is. Demon Souls is right up there with BB with that beautiful Souls atmosphere. Can't stop watching this intro either lol

My brother bought me this when it came out and after maybe a solid week of pounding I couldn't get anywhere so I shelved it for months until eventually gave it another go. We never experienced anything like this up until this point and never will again
The swamp area is hard as fuck and garl vinland kicks ass, the way to the bosses without bonfires is hard and unvorgiving, flamelurker gave me nightmares.... Such a good game
I love how the intro shows you demons and mountains that are all massive in scale but the guy is just swatting at weak mobs, putting all his energy into fighting low level undead. Sets the tone perfectly.
Never did get into the souls games until Bloodborne, all of a sudden I loved them, actually played them backwards, Bloodline then Dark Souls 2 and finally Dark Souls. Now I'm older and wiser, I think its time I played the grandaddy of them all.
I remember picking this up around the time of Dark Souls, didn't really know what it was but it looked good. I've since played all the Souls games, as well as a couple of souls like games and Bloodborne. I'm so happy I found that second hand copy of Demon's souls because I've enjoyed every single one of the games I've played as a direct result of it, and I can't wait to play the remake when it releases

We all know how polygon wrote a ten page article complaining why Witcher 3 was racist because it had no black NPCs. It was dismissed quickly with the logical answer that the world of the Witcher takes place in a fictionalized Poland, where the only people of color come all the way from the southern hemisphere of Ofir. We thought that was all it took to defend creative integrity, but then a bunch of SJWs refuted that because its a fantasy world, that historical homogeny didn't need to take place and how making games that glorify things like "facts" and "history" is racist and secludes black people. This 6 years after Demon's Souls released in 2009. Demon's Souls likewise takes place in a fictionalized Northern kingdom which lends visuals and cultures from Scotland. Its arguably even more fantastical since Japanese developers were adding their own spin to these visuals. No one. No one complained that there weren't any black people in Boletaria. Now though? Gotta add black people, Asians, etc. Even if they're dressed in European Garb. Used to be if we wanted diversity in our fantasy settings that took place in fantasy europe, we'd show a traveller from afar dressed in exotic clothes and call him something like Shiva of the East. Now, Shiva of the East would be wearing the same platemail that every other guy in Lordran is wearing, as if this was some kind of Larp session in the United States. This is the CANCER of Western game development. The death of creative integrity.

I mean, the original is better because it has two things, over the 2020 reskin: 1- it's serious and goofy at the same time, and you can see this in dialogues and music (and the opening movies as well) 2- it has personality Plus, of course the 2020 one is, from a technical point of view, better. It's a high budget project with 2020 technology, made after years of experience in which From has been perfecting the Souls formula, starting with the original Dark Souls back in 2011. The 2009 one was a mid-low budget, hastily made experiment, by salvaging the original project (which should have been in first person, like King's Field and Shadow Tower, from what I remember) and trying to make something good out of it. I mean, even Vanguard and the Armor Spider are recycled assets from other From games. A little modified of course (they are from 2007 Enchanted Arms and 2009 Ninja Blade) to fit the world of Demon's Souls, but still recycled assets they are. Oh, and the 2020 reskin has a major thing that incredibly pisses me off: they "politically-corrected" the game. Fuck Bluepoint.

I imported this after reading about it online back in 2009. Just small stories at first. A small game in Japan that was garnering attention because of its difficulty. I bought it at the same as Uncharted 2, a game which was mega hyped at the time and they both arrived pretty much at the same time. I barely touched Uncharted 2. Demon's Souls was my reminder of why I loved gaming. I poured hundreds of hours into it, to the point where my first PS3 died probably from overuse and I lost all my saves. The SoulsBorne games remain some of my favorite games but Demon's Souls I love the most, simply because it was my first. In fact, I think I'm gonna replay it.
As someone who started with the Remake, I didn't understand why older fans stood by this original introduction so much. But today, I finally got a chance to play the original Demon's Souls, and...I get it now. This intro hits differently, especially when you're experiencing it by playing the game for real.

At the 2m mark is the Dragon God scene. The dead eyes, exposed gums, and the deliberateness of its movement, conveys supreme violence in a way that only an ancient soul could. Then you have the remake by Bluepoint, where the Dragon God is a cartoon from World of Warcraft. It really is that ignorant to the original's art direction.
I don't think so, they're both equally menacing to me. No offence or anything but this kinda sounds like the souls equivalent of being a genwunner.
That’s a dope way to explain something I think a few of us were feeling! Although I appreciate the remake for what it is, I would’ve loved a remake that would bring us an experience similar to how this trailer looked even.
I've noticed that this intro literally has the same lighting as Armored Core 4's.

This game was life changing. I probably listen to the sound track anywhere from once a month to every week since I discovered the game in 2009. The story and (intentionally) lack there of, was executed perfectly. The atmosphere is unparalleled by any other game I've played. A close second would have to be Skyrims atmosphere (although the game is a 3/10 or worse in every other aspect), and beyond that Bastion and Dead Space. Demon's Souls honestly gives me goosebumps and the amount of Lore-exploring I did before I knew there was a wiki was immense, I've totalled so many hours sightseeing, sculptures that resemble a character, the dreglings that operate the elevator before the False King, the courtyard of the dead after the tower knight and even inspecting the town below the Palace that can only really be seen on the bridge.
I'm curious if anyone else feels as moved by this game as I do, and how sad it is that a game with a royal family of Allants will never be referenced on the PS4, even Father Gascoigne's mention of Umbasa was removed from Bloodborne.
Bloodborne I think is the best. the blood, the creepy atmosphere, enemy design, the subtle horror touches, make it an incredible game.

I feel you bro, I adore this game. Same goes for Bloodborne. I love the Dark Souls games too but they don't capture the essence of what makes DeS and BB so cautivating, interesting and immersive. There's so much left unanswered that you have to fill in the blanks like Miyazaki used to when reading western novels.
I think a shit-ton of people want a rerelease, Sony is nuts not jumping on this!
Demons souls was the first souls game i played, and even today - after i've completed the souls series - i find it to be my favorite.
The "Best" one, in terms of gameplay, lore, references etc. is DS3, but MY favorite, is Demon's Souls.
The old, raspy voice in the beginning, chanting the story of Boletaria, with it's deep colorless fog and all these amazing names like "Old King Allant", "Biorr of the Twin Fangs", "Yurt, The Silent Chief" -- i mean, come on.
This game was so immersive. It is the father of the Souls series. Old King Allant is Gwyn's daddy, and i mean it in a cute way. It's dark, well thought, the lore is hidden in an amazing way, it's sad and fulfilling.
Demon's Souls is the shit, y'all.
This intro kicks your fucking door down for the rest of the series to manhandle you in your own home. This was terrifying from the start.
Couldn't resist any longer and bought this game for PS3. Just got done with Tower Knight and what a hell of a game this is. Demon Souls is right up there with BB with that beautiful Souls atmosphere. Can't stop watching this intro either lol
@@gerardom816 PS3 was about $80 when I bought it. It's been nice reliving games like Fallout 3 and Dantes Inferno. I'm hoping Demon Souls at least gets a remaster soon. Just rumour for now unfortunatly.

My brother bought me this when it came out and after maybe a solid week of pounding I couldn't get anywhere so I shelved it for months until eventually gave it another go. We never experienced anything like this up until this point and never will again

I love how the intro shows you demons and mountains that are all massive in scale but the guy is just swatting at weak mobs, putting all his energy into fighting low level undead. Sets the tone perfectly.

Wonderful game. Easily one of the best in the series and that genuinely isn't blind nostalgia talking. A vastly underrated modern classic.
Never did get into the souls games until Bloodborne, all of a sudden I loved them, actually played them backwards, Bloodline then Dark Souls 2 and finally Dark Souls. Now I'm older and wiser, I think its time I played the grandaddy of them all.

I remember picking this up around the time of Dark Souls, didn't really know what it was but it looked good. I've since played all the Souls games, as well as a couple of souls like games and Bloodborne. I'm so happy I found that second hand copy of Demon's souls because I've enjoyed every single one of the games I've played as a direct result of it, and I can't wait to play the remake when it releases
This will go down as one of the most important and defining games in gaming history

We all know how polygon wrote a ten page article complaining why Witcher 3 was racist because it had no black NPCs. It was dismissed quickly with the logical answer that the world of the Witcher takes place in a fictionalized Poland, where the only people of color come all the way from the southern hemisphere of Ofir.
We thought that was all it took to defend creative integrity, but then a bunch of SJWs refuted that because its a fantasy world, that historical homogeny didn't need to take place and how making games that glorify things like "facts" and "history" is racist and secludes black people.
This 6 years after Demon's Souls released in 2009. Demon's Souls likewise takes place in a fictionalized Northern kingdom which lends visuals and cultures from Scotland. Its arguably even more fantastical since Japanese developers were adding their own spin to these visuals. No one. No one complained that there weren't any black people in Boletaria.
Now though? Gotta add black people, Asians, etc. Even if they're dressed in European Garb.
Used to be if we wanted diversity in our fantasy settings that took place in fantasy europe, we'd show a traveller from afar dressed in exotic clothes and call him something like Shiva of the East. Now, Shiva of the East would be wearing the same platemail that every other guy in Lordran is wearing, as if this was some kind of Larp session in the United States.
This is the CANCER of Western game development. The death of creative integrity.

The new intro especially is just so plainly terrible. How the hell they went from this to that and thought it was passable is beyond me.
Man it's not even the over-saturation, art change, or music, the actual directing presented in the remake intro is horrible. All the tension and mystery is just gone for trashy comic looking action.
The fact that anybody unironically thinks this looks better then the remake is baffling to me. I guess you can't please everybody

I never played this game, i just discovered dark souls a few months ago and finished it, but this intro... wow!! its so epic and cool! And the music of the game looks amazing, way better than in dark souls
The atmosphere of the game is amazing, but it is hard as hell, you could play it on emulator if you dont have a ps3

@@mattiasilva1705 Expect everything about the style. I mean, the original is better because it has two things, over the 2020 reskin:
1- it's serious and goofy at the same time, and you can see this in dialogues and music (and the opening movies as well)
2- it has personality
Plus, of course the 2020 one is, from a technical point of view, better. It's a high budget project with 2020 technology, made after years of experience in which From has been perfecting the Souls formula, starting with the original Dark Souls back in 2011.
The 2009 one was a mid-low budget, hastily made experiment, by salvaging the original project (which should have been in first person, like King's Field and Shadow Tower, from what I remember) and trying to make something good out of it. I mean, even Vanguard and the Armor Spider are recycled assets from other From games. A little modified of course (they are from 2007 Enchanted Arms and 2009 Ninja Blade) to fit the world of Demon's Souls, but still recycled assets they are.
Oh, and the 2020 reskin has a major thing that incredibly pisses me off:
they "politically-corrected" the game.

Of course the base graphic fidelity is better but the way they use lighting in the remake has no purpose but to make those graphics shine , highlighting the orange and blue coloring. And then the gameplay is basically the same with the core gameplay being exactly the same
The dragon roaring is so apocalyptic. It's majestical roar Harolds the end times. When it raised its head and roars, you can feel its game over.
Remember buying the game for this cinematic alone; definitely wasn't disappointed.

I imported this after reading about it online back in 2009. Just small stories at first. A small game in Japan that was garnering attention because of its difficulty. I bought it at the same as Uncharted 2, a game which was mega hyped at the time and they both arrived pretty much at the same time. I barely touched Uncharted 2. Demon's Souls was my reminder of why I loved gaming. I poured hundreds of hours into it, to the point where my first PS3 died probably from overuse and I lost all my saves.
The SoulsBorne games remain some of my favorite games but Demon's Souls I love the most, simply because it was my first. In fact, I think I'm gonna replay it.
Give Uncharted a try. Awesome game.
As someone who started with the Remake, I didn't understand why older fans stood by this original introduction so much. But today, I finally got a chance to play the original Demon's Souls, and...I get it now. This intro hits differently, especially when you're experiencing it by playing the game for real.
