This is disappointing😔 but based from the Island Nomad's page, The event started with a solemn mass at the grandstand at around 9AM. The carousel parade then started and each participants presented at the grandstand. At around 8PM, the program ended with a 10-min grand fireworks display. The crowd was estimated to be at 600k+.

@@eds7933I'm sure the boys' lack of sleep affected their energy during the day, and probably their patience. But as they narrated in their vlog, they clearly asked multiple people, multiple times about when and where they could watch the parade. They checked the published schedules even before flying to Cebu. Even the locals around them were confused and disappointed.
That's clearly a failure on the part of this year's festival organizers. They did not properly disseminate information about the performance venues and the parade route, because if they did, majority of the crowd would have known. The event area would have signs and schedules posted everywhere. Not to mention several towns chose not to participate this year due to issues with the venue.
Just because some people had a better time and knew all the right places doesn't mean it's automatically a resounding success. (Not to mention most vloggers filter their opinions and only post positive comments because that's better for engagement. These boys have always been honest in their opinions and that's why most of their viewers love them for it.)
The quicker people accept the valid criticism, the sooner you can figure out what to do better for next year's festival.

Being late a few times for a few minutes is fine especially if ur reasoning is traffic. But the complete lack of regard for time being normalized is really not ok for me. On your honest thoughts, I agree with, at least upon seeing and corroborating the videos taken by other vloggers who went to Sinulog. For them to charge entry to the festivities (can anyone confirm this?), at least a semblance of orderliness and sticking to the time of the actual parade might have been prudent.
Festive, but quite disastrous in terms of organizing the actual place and schedule. The city government could have done it in the city center instead as per tradition.

In Sinulog Dance competition, there are two major categories for participants to choose: the traditional and original Sinulog-based Category and Free Interpretation Category. The Sinulog-based category needs to follow strict rules on the traditional steps: two steps forward and one step backward. However, the drumbeats and the music should adhere to Sinulog music. You may choose to use modern music but has to be modified in attune to Sinulog beats.

It is totally understandable to might have a different expectation since this is your first time witnessing a festival here in the Philippines. Instead of being an expectator, it is more fun if you had interactions with the dancers and drummers like what I saw in Zoe&Czar vlog. You might have thought that the parade was delayed but it's not. You were at the last route of the parade and knowing that it is street dancing, the dancers need to stop because they are required to dance in every step of the way.
No worries, it's still a lot more to come like Dinagyang and Penagbenga. Lots of love and I still enjoy watching your vlogs.

fyi, 9 contingent participants were withdrawn their intention to join this years sinulog due to lack of preparation in the new venue, mostly some cebuanos prefer the old venue than in srp for some reasons like inaccessibilty of the area, safety of the dancers, bad weather condtion as the ground is very muddy, limited structures to hide from rains nor heat from the sun.

I really appreciate that you guys are like immersing in the Filipino culture and eventually trying out the things about us like food and now festivals. Just a saddening fact tho coming from a Filipino herself. MOST FILIPINOS DON'T KNOW THE SIGNIFICANCE OF SUCH FESTIVAL BEING CELBRATED EVERY TIME OF THE YEAR. IT'S TIME FOR US TO GO BACK TO OUR ROOTS AND DEEPEN OUR UNDERSTANDING AND FAITH ABOUT THE TRADITIONS WE ARE DOING ESPECIALLY THOSE OF SPIRITUALITY. SINULOG IS OF SPIRITUALITY - HOW CHRISTIANITY BECAME IN THE PHILIPPINES. SINULOG FESTIVAL IS NOT JUST A FESTIVAL OF BEING AESTHETICS, DANCING OR AMAZING FOOD, TO THE EXTENT THAT PEOPLE DO FOOLISH THINGS AND WEAR FOOLISH DRESSES. THAT'S WHY SOME WILL NOT TRULY ENJOY THESE KIND OF CELEBRATION BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW THE TRUE MEANING BEHIND THIS , WHY IT IS CELEBRATED. SO DEAR YOUNG CATHOLICS OR ALL OTHER CATHOLICS, PLEASE KNOW YOUR FAITH, KNOW YOUR THEOLOGY.

The reason why the performers aren't dancing is that there is a designated spot in the parade where they dance because that is where the judges are located. That's why some locals prefer to go to that certain spot for a better Sinulog parade experience. Many non locals don't know about this, that's why some of them don't get to enjoy the parade.

I wasn't at the event nor have I never been to Cebu myself. But from what I have read, the Cebu Governor herself rejected and detested the prospect of having holding the Sinulog event in that venue, and a lot concur with her. She noted that people would have a hard time during the event, that is maybe because they have already anticipated the situation because of the scale and magnitude of the event in terms of people and resources involved compared to the urban planning and the present infrastructure lack of capability to ensure reliable and available mass transit for everyone in that area. And it looks like that is what exactly happened.

Thing is many people got confused on the venue and time . Going to festivals shouldn’t require research or local tourist guide . It should be plain and simple for the tourists so they will not get confused or lost on where and what time to go . There should be banners everywhere starting fr the airport I mean come on how hard is it to plan an event when you have been doing it for the longest time whether new venue or not it should just flow .
And that Filipino time should really stop or minimized at the very least it will just put our country in a bad light even more.
Sad but true our govt is not good in organizing events, we know that.

I’ve watched a lot of UA-cam videos ( live and replay ) from locals, media and foreign vloggers of the sinulog festival. The dancers did their street dancing rituals so many times from morning to night and on stage too. It’s a different vibe at night ‘cause their colors reflected on the lights. Apparently, they started their show down on stage where only paid audience can enter the site and watch then they went to the streets near Nustar hotel and casino. Mergim in his vlog was looking for the stage performance area but didn’t go down to City de Marie. He only stayed outside Nustar hotel and casino. That’s where the street action was held not in SM sea side area. You saw people were coming and going ‘cause the parade was ongoing all day. Some who arrived late in the afternoon were still able to see the whole performances in sporadic periods the same as those who came in the morning. Those people sitting and standing outside the mall were just hanging out or maybe waiting too. Some were having a picnic near the sea wall. People we’re just having a good time esp. when the sun came down.. Food stalls were selling all kinds of food, snacks and drinks. Too bad these two only stayed in SM area but I can understand that they’re confused for there were no clear nor posted information as to direction. They could have been more assertive to find where the action really was instead of waiting and not doing more but at least they saw some dances and floats where they were. You can’t expect the parade to come to you, have to find them but I understand it was confusing and being a foreigner everything was new to them and it’s not like in the US where you can expect better information on line, papers and on site. Also organization is well implemented as well as crowd control, safety and security. However, some dancers and floats rolled down to the SM side but not all since the real action was in City de Marie and Nustar hotel side. All day to night, those contingents from different cities and provinces performed for the spectators ‘till the fireworks display. They must have been exhausted performing all day. Surigao del Norte got 3 million from winning 3 categories. So with other winners 2nd place to 3rd.

You should secure a seat in one main event where the ati competition held coz that is a must watch ( FYI Dinagyang is unbeatable in Aliwan festival one of the anticipated festival in the country) rather than walking in street, you can do this (walking and interacting) after watching the ati competition and in the night you can go to festive walk for food and other stuff like bar hooping or watching a live bands. I suggest you have to come ASAP don't wait saturday or Sunday coz as far as I know the past years everytime it's dinagyang hotels are all fully booked! Perhaps it would be better next time if you message other content creators and ask them the know how since they are already experienced on these things. Asking random people and getting their inputs are okay but remember that you are there not just for experience but also content, thus your approach should be different compared to others who are just there just because it's their free time. I know you guys want to do your own stuff but as you said, Cebu is very different from Manila and the same goes to the other islands. You barely scratched the surface on how things work in the Philippines so it's better to wise up and ask tips/inputs or help from those who are actually experienced in doing these things and not just rely on what your subscribers are telling you.
